I hope you are able to cruise but I doubt very much that there will be any cruising in 2021.

Wow that would be depressing, a whole 20 months of no cruising...........won't be many cruiselines left if that is the case.

If there is no cruising in 2021, there will NEVER be cruising as they will all be bankrupt.  They need to get back up and running.  I choose to stay POSITIVE and HOPEFUL that cruising will be back by November or December. Until they tell me my cruises are canceled, I will believe they are happening.

That is a wonderful attitude but not realistic in my opinion.

Can you imagine a cruise where you must wear masks at all times except dining ?

Shows would be cancelled because you cannot socially distance in a theater.

I am so happy you are excited.  I am always excited about our cruises.  We have 2 booked for Dec - 9 canceled so far - and are totally hopeful that we will actually get to go.

Hoping didn't prevent the first 9 from cancelling😉

I've done 3 of this itinerary with the first one on the Quantum and enjoyed everyone of them including the initial bad weather.

I lifted and shifted my January and Feb. 2021 sailings on Anthem as have most of the people I know who were planning on being on board her then.  With at least 4 out of the 11 days likely to keep most passengers indoors and the likelihood of having to wear a mask and social distancing, sailing then just didn't seem to be all that attractive.

I am happy for you as DW and I are also booked on this cruise.  We were on Anthem twice in 2019 and it is now our new favorite ship.  I was looking forward to this trip as it will be our longest yet.  I am thinking of L and S this trip to Jan 2022 as I am not sure if these longer cruise will be going by then. We have cruises booked for July and Aug that were L and S from this year.  I am hopeful these will go.

We don't know if cruising will commence by January, but if it does likely short caribbean sailings from FL will be more realistic. What speaks against cruises departing from cold weather ports, hence Baltimore or Cape Liberty is the fact that you will have for at least 3-4 days passengers stuck only on inside decks and not have them use outside decks, which causes a larger cluster and makes it more difficult to avoid crowds, even on ships not running at full capacity. Hence, based on this, such itinararies seems to me to return not before the winter seasons 2021/22.

I'm sure you are old enough to remember that old Wide World of Sports saying

"The thrill of Victory, the Agony of defeat."

Kinda fits will all that is going on in the Cruise world. So much excitement to cruise only to be let down.

FWIW,  we have done a few February Anthem cruises including this year.  Many people use the outside decks even on the first and last days of the trip.  Maybe not everybody and no not in wet weather (but that is true on every ship I've ever been on).  Remember, many of us onboard are from NY, NJ and further north and by the morning after sailaway it is likely to be much warmer than it was at home.

Yes, I know anecdote not data.

I'm also thinking that the cruise lines might find it appealing to be drawing passengers from areas that in general, have been more willing to follow guidelines/rules designed to keep us safe from COVID 19 than in some other parts of the country.

It could be that its not that you are better at following rules, it might be that you have rules to follow😉

of course not, but it did no harm to hope, rather than being down in the dumps and negative about it.  I would rather stay positive and hope.

I can see 3 day Christmas cruises leaving out of PC. Harmony on Thursday - Sunday, and Mariner Friday to Monday. Crazy expensive 😉

Shows would be cancelled because you cannot socially distance in a theater.

You could social distance but probably only 1/4 of the passengers would be able to see the shows at one time. That would also go for the casino and lounges. It would be just like what has been happening here since the pandemic started. Lines to get in just  like the lines to get into supermarkets. We have been going out to dinner and I don't know how these restaurants are surviving with limited capacity and slow business in general. I wouldn't begin to spend money on a cruise for a subpar experience.  An 11 day cruise in January from Cape Liberty is not going to happen especially if we spike again once school opens.

And how many people will be allowed in the cruise ship’s swimming pools?  May have to sign up to use the pool if they restrict the number.  Perhaps after 3 or 4 days, your number will come up. This is what they are doing at our HOA community swimming  pool.  Only 15 people at a time for 1 hour fifteen minutes.  Then the pool area is cleared for some so-called deep cleaning for 15 minute .  Then the next group of 15 are allowed in for their swim time.

An Italian restaurant that is a favorite of ours is only doing outdoor dining.Another one that we went to often before the pandemic is doing outdoor and limited indoor .
