That's a good deal if you can use it well.

So, how many alcoholic drinks would you and your partner together consume in 7 days?

For $616

Last cruise I had between 12 and 17 per day.  My wife had at least 8.  Who drinks less when on a cruise?  It's not like you have to drive home or anything!  Start the day with coffee and a shot.  So many other options.  Bloody Mary's.  Plenty of cream liquors for shots.  Rum and coke to add some caffeine later.  A couple glasses of wine with dinner.  Some tasty shots like a B52.  Sipping a shot of really good bourbon or rum.  Ice cream drinks.  Fruity Drinks.  You paid for them, so why not tray a shot of everything behind the bar over the week to taste things you would not otherwise.  It's not all 80 proof!

The nonalcoholic is $36 per day on my 12 day sailing. There’s no way I’m paying that! But for $8 more, I’d certainly be likely.

As a person who drinks almost exclusively water and pre-Covid 1 alcoholic drink a week (now none as we don't go out for Happy Hour i.e. cheap appetizer dinner on Sunday) I always wonder how much folk are drinking, alcoholic or non-alcoholic to think even $44 a day per person is a great deal. 🙂

We rarely break even but consider the extra cost a convenience cost that we factor into the overall price of the cruise. It is just another cruise expense like an excursion to us.  I want my cruise as mindless as possible with no bills at the end.   That said, the 4 twenty-somethings with us will more than make up for what we don't drink 🙂  But with coffee, iced coffees, juices, water, smoothies, and everything else included, we do come close and probably do break even depending on the price. But I never look at it as a per drink expense, just as a convenience expense.

That said, I am anal about checking a few times a day until our cruise planner closes to make sure we get the best price.  Come on Oasis in July. I would love $44 a day since I will be purchasing 7 drink packages for 2 cabins.

I scored my DBP package for my Hawaii on Serenade next May for $40 per day today! Great deal as far as I’m concerned.

That’s an awesome price!! The discrepancy between ships and sailings is crazy. My cruise still has $36 for the nonalcoholic, which is not happening! But for $4 extra....

I bought the DBP for $42US for our 12 night Med cruise last year.

A typical port day included morning coffee plus 2 bottles of water for the port. Late afternoon 2 cocktails.  Dinner 2 glasses of wine.  Showtime 2 spirits. Bedtime another bottle of water. Roughly $80.

A typical sea day included morning coffee, a fresh juice & a bottle of water. 2 beers at lunch time. 2 cocktails mid afternoon. 2 wines at dinner.  1 spirit at the nightly show.  Bedtime another bottle of water.  Roughly $88.  Also, I had two big nights out partying & in the casino where I had another 6 spirits or so.
Summary port days 8 x 80 = $640

sea days 4 x 88 = $352

extra big nights 2 x 60 = $120

Total Value $1,112

Cost of DBP $504

Therefore I saved $608 plus tips by buying the package.

I liked the convenience of ordering whatever I wanted knowing there will be no bill to pay at the end of the cruise. If my beer was warm, I just ordered another. I never skulled my last drink before heading to bed, most times I left it half full.  Now... if I was paying for every drink as I went, I would’ve drunk the warm beer & skulled the last drink before bed, just to make sure I got my money’s worth.  So..... the DBP is definitely a winner for me.
Also, my wife tried just about every cocktail on the ship & if she didn’t like them, she just ordered a different one.  Her costings would’ve been very similar to mine.

Finally, based on my experience if the DBP is under $70US I wouldn’t hesitate in buying it.

Yeah I was surprised.  It had bounced back and forth between $52 and $48 when it went on sale and I was planning getting at $ 48.  I was very surprised to see it at $40.  On an 11 day cruise with 6 sea days, I'll definitely get full value for that package.
