I don't think the horse has bolted Selborne, just an easy distraction while we wait for the positives of cruising to return, although there will probably be the odd thread that strays from this.

We have to remember that we are amongst a lot of people with time on their hands, little company and nothing to aim for. This is an easy route to depression, so I think it is important for us to be here to keep spirits up and add a little bit of normality to their lives if we can.

I'm sure we would all rather be discussing tipping, drinks packages and how standards have dropped😊

That’s a fair point Andy. I did caveat my comment with ‘once cruising starts again’, but I understand that’s not where we are now. As I have said previously when this subject came up, I don’t have a problem with it as I skip over the chatter, as I do the ‘posts for posts sake’ (the need to comment on loads of other peoples posts when a ‘like’ would suffice), but it does all make the threads incredibly long and the subject matter harder to digest as a result. Just saying 😉 I agree that it’s a small price to pay if it keeps people sane though. I am lucky that I have my wife to witter to although, thinking about it, she tends to just ignore me whereas people on here tend to listen more. On that basis I take my comments back 😂

No need to take your comments back, I agree with what you say, I was just adding another dimension.

I would love to be asking questions about upcoming cruises/ports and giving out advice, but for the meantime, what's your favourite biscuit... 🍪😂

No you gave the ONS interpretation of their data, which has always erred on the cautious side.  The glass half full media are using a wider set of statistics and drawing a more optimistic interpretation.

I didn't  present their interpretation as factual information. I merely reported on what they said, and what they didn't say.

But I will leave it here, as I don't want to interrupt the flow of conversation any further.

Not received any kind of brouchure for the 2022 summer cruises from p and o .I am listed with them for mail .Not that it matters to much as its on the website but its handy for quick reference

We had one from Bolsover specifically showing the new cruises  but no prices. We are on P&Os mailing list but have never had a brochure from them, maybe because they know we use a TA.

Rich Tea, dunked in a mug of "builders" until it gets soggy enough to eat without dropping into the mug.

Same here. But a cruise-specialist travel agency helpfully sent me a leaflet with quite a few of the new P&O cruises, and which gave prices for solo travellers (which I am). So I pre-registered a cruise that I fancied via them.

We have done a Princess British Isles cruise in the past and enjoyed it but I think the person particularly wants to visit Liverpool and Newcastle.I know some of the itineraries include Liverpool but as far as I am aware I have not known Princess visit Newcastle?

Disney,MSC,TUI,QE2,P&O Oceana,Fred Olsen to name a few have all stopped at North Shields so why not Princess?

Newcastle ( North Shields)would be an ideal base for A Fjords or Baltic cruise for P&O or Princess.

Hi Andrew. Suggest you don’t make the same mistake that we made when we went to Messina. As there were no tours that went up Etna (they just did the foothills) we decided to stay in port. It’s a bit of a dump and we regretted not taking a tour (or venturing away from the city under our own steam). The main square is OK but just a 2 minute walk from where the ship berths, so you can see that before going elsewhere or before rejoining the ship but, other than that, there’s nothing much worth seeing and lots of cab drivers and touts trying to sell you things - quite persistently. I’m sure that there are plenty of lovely places worth seeing on Sicily, but Messina isn’t one of them.

I agree Messina was disappointing when we visited with very limited shops etc.

You'll find that people talk about all sorts of things on this forum.

If I'm not interested, I skim over the posts. May I suggest you do the same

I absolutely agree.

No-one is forced to read anything.

I have hardly read this thread because we have no intention of booking 2022 until the middle of next year at the earliest.

Graham.

At last, some good news! I’m afraid that we think Gibraltar is a dump. Just a concrete nothingness with low rent shops. The view from the rock is good but spoilt by needing to be on edge due to the likelihood of being assaulted by terrorist monkeys! Two years ago we went to Ceuta, the Spanish equivalent of Gibraltar, which is the opposite side of the straights of Gibraltar and cut out of Morocco. It is 100 times better than Gibraltar in all respects. A beautiful town with very interesting buildings, several lovely beaches, a very classy water park (no slides etc, just beautifully landscaped grounds), attractive gardens, lovely promenade with sculptures, nice shops and restaurants. You can see Gibraltar from it but the contrast is incredible. We went there on Aurora and you dock 2 minutes walk from everything I have described. No mile long walk (or mini bus ride) through a concrete trading estate, as is the case in Gibraltar. I doubt that the big ships can berth there, which is a shame, but it was an unexpected highlight of our last cruise.

The first ever cruise I went on in 2011 called at Gibraltar, I found the town a let down, fortunately a friend of my wife’s lived there and she arranged for us to have a private tour of the Rock with one of her friends who was a taxi driver, so we spent little time in the town. Me and my new friend, I was in shock when photo was taken.

I don’t know about anybody else but I come on this forum to talk cruising not Covid. If I wanted an argument over stats I’d watch the news, we have enough politics and Covid talk outside of this forum so bringing it onto this page just makes it even more depressing. I’m all up for dreaming about holidays instead

Aren't we all but health conditions, age, government advice and covid19 has put the dampeners on that for now.

As soon as cruising restarts cruise only chats will resume.

Graham.

P&O always send us a brochure even though we always booked through a TA but nothing yet.

I absolutely agree. Too many official experts, without listening to the amateurs. That's why I haven't posted much the last few days. Why be positive when you can be miserable ?.

Towels on unused sunbeds saving sunbeds for hours too.

When we can all start cruising again , early 2021. The protocols for the enhanced cruising experience should mean more availability for sunbeds.🤣
