One of the best.   And Rod liked (likes) sea travel.  In the late '70s on a transatlantic on QE2 I met Rod.  In the gym on QE2 of all places.  He was there with two bodyguards (today they would be called personal assistants).  Rod chatted with all us passengers while his bodyguards worked out.  Very friendly and approachable unlike current celebs.

Wow!  Cool story....

OTJ, this has been a fun way to hang out on CC and not dwell on the crazy stuff in the world.

for sure....

Let's try another song....who sang this one???

Baby let's cruise, away from here
Don't be confused, the way is clear
And if you want it you got it forever
This is not a one night stand
Let the music take your mind
Ooh just release and you will find

This one was a suggestion from
my next door neighbor.
When he mentioned the title, I
told him I never heard of it.
Then he played it for me and I remembered it well

Sail away,sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away

From Bissau to Palau, in the shade of Avalon
From Fiji to Tyree and the Isles of Ebony
From Peru to Cebu hear the power of Babylon
From Bali to Cali, far beneath the Coral Sea
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, up, adieu. Ooh ooh
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, up, adieu. Ooh ooh
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, up, adieu. Oh

Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away

From the North to the South, Ebudæ into Khartoum
From the deep sea of Clouds to the island of the moon
Carry me on the waves to the lands I've never been
Carry me on the waves to the lands I've never seen
We can sail, we can sail with the Orinoco Flow
We can sail, we can sail
(Sail away, sail away, sail away)
We can steer, we can near
With Rob Dickins at the wheel
We can sigh, say goodbye Ross and his dependencies

We can sail, we can sail
(Sail away, sail away, sail away)
We can reach, we can beach
On the shores of Tripoli
We can sail, we can sail
(Sail away, sail away, sail away)
From Bali to Cali, far beneath the Coral Sea
We can sail, we can sail
(Sail away, sail away, sail away)
From Bissau to Palau, in the shade of Avalon
We can sail, we can sail
(Sail away, sail away, sail away)

We can reach, we can beach
Far beyond the Yellow Sea
We can sail, we can sail
(Sail away, sail away, sail away)
From Peru to Cebu hear the power of Babylon
We can sail, we can sail
(Sail away, sail away, sail away)
We can sail, we can sail

Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away

Lemme guess...it's called "Sail Away"  lol....    or maybe not...no idea who might have done it either.

No not called “Sail Away”

Not even in the title.
It was popular enough that I would think most CC’ers have heard it, and perhaps even sung along with the chorus, like me until today, not knowing the song title.
I was stumped on the title, but can hear the chorus in my mind.
The artist goes by a single name, and the title is hidden in the lyrics.

Orinoco Flow by Enya. Good tune. 🍻🥌

YES!

Should be a 50 point bonus answer for knowing the title.

Great music trivia question, since so many know the tune but not the title.
Hoping its a trivia question on a not too far in the future Viking cruise, or a tune playing when we sail out of a distant port.

OTJ, this has been a fun way to hang out on CC and not dwell on the crazy stuff in the world.  We can at least listen to our favorite "sea songs".  If we were to use song titles to describe the state of cruising I think I would start with:

"I can't get no (Satisfaction)". 😱🍸

LOL! Listening to all the suggestions for cruising out of Florida while ignoring the Covid 19 problem, I would go with the title "Fools Rush In."

OK, one in return for the others provided ...

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned

Winner! (and Tennessee is a fair ways from Superior 😈)

Ah, one of my favorite songs of all-time.  Saddest song ever...And all that remains, Are the faces and the names, Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Thanks for the memory jog to bring it to mind!

Wow...indeed a terrific song. We visited the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum during a road trip around the Upper Peninsula in MI. They have the bell from the Fitzgerald on display.

Here's what I suspect is a relatively unknown one...If you know the ship it refers to, that's also the title.

October was looming
The fish it was scarce
They just weren’t there for some reason
“We’ll gather the crew,”
Skip Billy Tyne said,
“And we’ll make one last trip for the season.”

I have been to Gloucester.

"Andrea Gail," lost in the "Perfect Storm."

Gordie was an avid sailor, participating in a number of Mackinac races. I have a vivid memory of the 1980 race, which featured one of the most intense electrical storms I had ever experienced. Gord's 45 foot wooden sloop, the Golden Goose, was hit by lightning, lost all radio and electronics and forced him to withdraw. His yacht was gorgeous, a pleasure to see 🥌

Yep, and the book provides one of the most detailed and horrifying descriptions of drowning that I have ever read. I still cringe when I think about it! The movie was fun, but the book is outstanding.

Okay, here's a pretty obscure one, but something tells me this group might know it!

Pretty lady, look at me,
I'm a sailor from the sea.

I can take you anywhere,

You can join me if you dare.

And she said:  "Sailor, come with me.

Is it lonesome on the sea?"
(Humming because I can't remember the next two lines!)

Love is harder than a diamond

And as soft and pure as gold.

And as sweet as any secret

Any sailor ever told.

Nope...don't know it and so had to cheat to find out (won't reveal though).

Did you find the missing lines for me?  What are the two I can't remember?  And, where did you find them?  By googling the songwriter?
