 😱 Rumors....and more rumors...which ones panned out?

Recommended Posts

😱 Remember the RCG and NCL merger?  The Empress sold?  Empress going to the scrapyard?  Empress and Majesty sharing electricity? Cruising ending altogether?  Cruise lines going bankrupt? RCL stock price at $150 -- wait $10 -- $0? No-sail order extended to forever? July 2020 sailings? These are just the most recent.

There are many CC old-timers here that can tell us some juicy ones from the past -- did they ever come true or just died on the grapevine?  Are we to believe all of them, some of them or none at all?  Your favorite rumor (rumour for the Brits) of all times?  Did it remain a rumor / rumour or become a reality?

The most prevalent one over time was a change to the Crown and Anchor levels.

Most often mentioned was the addition of a level between Diamond Plus and Pinnacle.  This was mentioned every month here and onboard ships.  Never happened!

Yes so true and rumor so wrong - as of yet.  LOL 🤣😂  Then there were the DL/SL changes that went dead in the water (pun not intended) due to the no-sail order.

No need for an additional level. There are already additional perks between D+ and Pinnacle at 340 and 525.  Pinnacle suits the name well. Takes a bunch nights to achieve the Pinnacle of cruising.

Kicking D's out of DL. That's been around since they added 3 drinks to our sea pass cards.

Then they would have to rename it the diamond plus lounge.

Would solve the overcrowding for now. Just give me my cruises so I can get to D+

Yes -- me too!  Hey when did you say you're on Oasis?  Might meet you then...

I'm not. I was supposed to be on allure b2b, but now its changed to liberty. I still have hope allure will make it. Supposedly pier 3 only put off 1 year and will restart next april, though I'll believe it when I see it.

I did live in boca but wasnt cruising, but moved to texas because my parents shouldn't be driving.

I did oasis twice out of Florida though. Back when it was new.

Liberty out of Galveston? The TA from FL to Barcelona I cruised on her was a wonderful journey!  When is your cruise?

Lol I'm now changed from jewel to liberty, feb 21, feb 28, april 25, dec 12, 2021 and late march changed from allure to liberty later march 2022, with a carnival vista sept 2021.

I think I'm now up to 6 on liberty. I sure am hoping for allure in the future. I need another ship hahahaha.

It says I was on liberty before, but so long ago I cannot remember it. I seem to remember it had the cafe and pizza separate unlike voyager which had them together. That's about all I remember. I quit cruising for a while and all my cruises fell off my history.. but shows I was on liberty before.

My last 3 on rcl I did a JS on jewel and twice on oasis, outside balcony I later regretted and wished I had tried a inside balcony near the pool. It's on my wish list. Unique. I like to try different cabins if the price is right. The april 2021 will be my first hump. I sure didnt need a 6th liberty., but i love going down to Galveston. The price was irresistible.

My ta grabbed a corner aft on liberty for one of the march 2022 cruises. Liberty here I come. Paying more for that one, but then the hump came up and booked it 2 days ago. Give away price right now., but one day I'll get that inside balcony by the pool on oasis class ... just not yet., I'll be watching when they release the new itineraries to see if allure on the list out of Galveston.

I know I know 6 on liberty is crazy

One rumor that came true was the extensive cancellations of Empress cruises due to replacing the Kitchen when she came back from Pullman

On the subject of Empress, on layup in Greece, do you think she could be on the way to to the scrapyard in Turkey?  Or in negotiations for a potential sale?  There was that undisclosed buyer from NY story circulating around that didn't materialize.  My thought is how cost effective could a ship that old and with very few balconies be in this pandemic age?

If Royal and Norwegian aren’t going to merge, how come there’s a video of Royal and Norwegian ships together on the RCG press site.

Can't find the video you are referencing, however it could be related to how they are partnering in regards covid protocols to resume cruising.

What do you make of the video? It’s off RCG press site.

Norwegian ships with the Royal Caribbean logo? No mention of the virus.

That Empress and Majesty will leave the fleet this seems to be a done deal, just look at Carnival getting rid of pretty much all their ships from the early 90's. Untless RCL is still trying to find buyers instead of having the ships scraped but otherwise this should have been alrady communicated and the future sailings of the ships removed from the booking list as part of being fully transparent in communicating to their customers, but this is not so much their strenght.

Depending on how the cruise industry will develop over the next years, even with the COVID situation to improve and restrictions fully lifted in hopefully 2 years from now, the recovery of the demand to leveles pre COVID will likely take 5 or more years. With ship delivelies that can be delayed  but not cancelled, only way will be to get rid of older ships. Hence, I even see the remaining Vision Class ships as candidates to leave the fleet rather sooner than originally anticipated and maybe have them gone within 2 years from now or not even have them return at all. Also at X I see them getting rid of Infinity and Millenium, both ships were supposed to get a full amplification and those plans were cancelled / "postponed".
