Mardi Gras - Have You Booked It?

I made the mistake to look at a Mardi Gras YouTube video.  And while I realize that I was viewing computer renderings, and not the final product, I am really, really interested in the new ship.  Of course, it’s PRICEY for Summer 2021.  I have to admit that I’m waiting to see if Carnival gets desperate for bookings, and offers significant discounts to previous Carnival cruisers.

If you are already booked on one of the Mardi Gras sailings out of Port Canaveral, what made you “pull the trigger” so to speak?  And what kind of cabin did you pick?  I’m a bit overwhelmed by all of the choices.

We booked it back when the sailings first went on sale for February 20, 2021. We got an Havana interior stateroom, 8th deck. We were a little disappointed after we saw the renderings of Havana. Appears to have a lack of either a pool or hot tubs. That aside, we decided to stay in Havana since that wasn't a total deal breaker for us. The ship looks amazing and should be great. If we don't get to experience it for this sailing (which I highly doubt), we will definitely look to rebook on it in the future.

Booked it twice and it was cancelled both times. Along with 4 other cancelled cruises. We are now booked on it for Halloween this year and next. Deck 4 mid ship, starboard side, Ocean View. Same cabin both cruises. First one not including tax and port charges,  $95.43 a day per person second one $98.43. However we had a lot of credits that we used on both and a lot of OBC In addition the 2021 cruise, it will be our 50th. So our total OBC is $784.00 which includes $300 from a cancelled cruise, $100 for the stock and $50 for the casino offer plus the milestone which is half the cruise cost for one of us or $334.00. Their are lots of pictures of the inside of the ship. Some show finished section other are not finished. The ship is out on sea trials now. A shake down cruise.

Yes I'm booked for March 13. Originally was booked for this past March on the Fantasy, but we all know what happened there so I decided to move my booking to the Mardi Gras. If I had to cancel my vacation, my idea was to go big or go home! Currently booked in a Family Harbor Ocean View. We had this on the Vista and loved the area and the perks. I'm not really concerned about booking a ship based on just renderings. I know it's going to be nice from everything I've seen and read.

As for price drops, I wouldn't count on it. The demand is going to be so pent up for cruising that I don't think they'll have much trouble filling ships, especially if they have a reduced capacity.

I booked back in November 2019 for September 2021.  It has been so long ago and so many changes ago that I don’t even remember why I chose that date.  The price has not changed more than $20 pp since then.  I am glad it is so far in the future that cruising might be “normal” again when we sail.

I booked a B2B cruise (Spa Suite) for Dec 2022.  I wanted to go to Disneyworld for a week prior to the cruise so I landed on the Mardi Gras.  I also looked at the Havana area and was disappointed with the layout which is why I decided to book a suite (bucket list).  I'm not super excited with the itineraries but am really looking forwards to Disney and seeing the ship.

The Mardi Gras is likely very heavily booked for the first year or so of sailings.  The initial bookings when first released were very successful, and the cancellation of the sailings through early Feb 2021 means that many cruisers re-booked at the first available similar slot, filling in a lot of gaps.  Someone else noted that a sailing in May is already gone from the website, which usually means it has reached capacity.

Not saying you aren't going to be able to book a cabin, just don't expect any extreme discounts.

I doubt you'll see "awesome deals" on Mardi Gras bookings for a long, long time.

Agree. We do our best to no longer go to Mexico and the nearby ports. Been their way too many times. One of the two we have booked on the Mardi Gras 2021 cruise does go there. The other cruise goes to San Juan, Amber cove and Grand Turk. That is for 2022.

We had our Dec. 2020 on the Magic canceled so we decided to wait a bit longer to cruise.  We took our 2 cabins and booked Thanksgiving week 2021.  Got $50 OBC per cabin + $600 OBC from the cancellation, so we will be walking on with $1,300 OBC.  We have connecting cabins on deck 12.  And as an added bonus, just found out that our uncle (haven't seen in over 20 years) booked as well.

Can't wait!!!

No, and I likely wont. I feel like they ruined the Havana area, I loved having the private pool area on Vista class ships. The pool in the Havana on Mardi Gras looks dinky. I am also not a fan of the mega ships, and based on how the Vista class is crowd wise, I worry MG will be even more crowded. We will likely stay with Vista and Dream class when we sail Carnival.

We are going to Disney before our cruise too. 🙂

We had two canceled cruises one April 2020 Legend and Magic for Jan 2021 so I booked MG last week for April 30, 2022 using one of the FCC's and OBC and still holding on to my other FCC for now. I booked a Lido Balcony.

We were booked on Mardi Gras for end of January 2021. So happens that was the cruise before the now first cruise in February.

So we rebooked March 2022, same itinerary same cabin.  We now have no cruises until 2022 as our April 2021 RCCL cruise on the Odyssey  was canceled and rebooked for 2022.

I originally booked in December 2019 for the end of November this year... Of course, it was cancelled, so now I'm booked for the same week in 2021... I was really looking forward to being one of the first passengers on board the brand new ship... Now, by the time I get to sail, the "new ship smell" will be completely worn off... Originally booked an inside on deck 14, but since I have to wait a whole nother year,. I rebooked in a balcony on deck 12...

We had originally booked a Havana room because we enjoyed it so much when we were on the Vista.  Once we saw the deck plans, we changed to room 11477 because it looks like we will get a bigger balcony for the cost of a regular one.  We pick the dates and ship because it is over Halloween and our 15th anniversary.

I do want to book it as Port Canaveral is only 45 minutes away but want to see how COVID shakes out.  Our next cruise isn't until March of 2022 onboard the Panorama.  On the Mardi Gras we'll book a Cove (our favorite cabin) when we eventually schedule a cruise on her.

We are booked on a July 2021 sailing in an Excel aft suite. Booked it in April when our Panorama Cruise was COVID cancelled. I paid for that cruise in gift cards so we were already locked into Carnival. Totally booked it for the room. Didn’t really care where it stopped!

I've got it booked for March and May. One inside Havana cabin and the other is Havana balcony. Both rooms are on Deck 8. I'll have $600 OBC for both sailings due to canceled cruises from this earlier this year.

Don't expect any discounts for Mardi gras.  It had great bookings and then they cancelled the first 8 cruises( that was my first cancellation), now it is rebooked for Nov 2021.  However as more cruises were cancelled, the majority of those people rebooked Mardi gras for later dates.

we booked MG for a  Christmas/ mid December 2021 cruise in April of this year. I figured by last 2021 it would be ok to cruise. we got a good price on two interior spa rooms. I will keep the reservation until at least next summer. by then we will have a better indication of what cruising will be like- I hope.
