VintageGeo Posted October 9, 2020 #51 Share Posted October 9, 2020 Good morning! Three years ago was a cool, rainy day in Quebec City, not a good day at all for cameras, and was Canada's Thanksgiving Day. In the morning we walked around the lower town, had breakfast at L'Antiquaire Buffet, and browsed through a few shops. We spent most of the afternoon in our room, before venturing out late that evening for dinner at Le Repaire. As we recall, Lori had their French Onion soup and I introduced myself to Poutine, and we shared a dessert. Walking back to the hotel was interesting due to the scarcity of people and the quiet streets. Playing in the rain can be fun! 🙂 Lori & George

We followed that up with the 14 day Black Sea cruise. That hooked us on HAL's unique itineraries and the Elegant Explorer. What a wonderful cruise that was! We did the B2B2B all the way back to Ft Lauderdale, here is a picture of out little group which did a lot of private excursions together. We were lucky enough to do three cruises on the Prinsendam, Africa, Black Sea & Baltic
Cruising-along Posted October 9, 2020 #53 Share Posted October 9, 2020 Watching the window washers as we ate breakfast in the Lido on the lovely Nieuw Statendam. LOL
bennybear Posted October 9, 2020 Author #54 Share Posted October 9, 2020 So enjoying everyone’s photos and memories, Who knew how much one would enjoy seeing the window washing one! We’re off to the lake for Canadian thanksgiving but I will look forward to seeing everyone’s posts! Here’s a few more post cruise memories on this day.
Dismomx5 Posted October 9, 2020 #55 Share Posted October 9, 2020 A year ago, today, we, too, were in Cartegena. We did a walking tapas tour. What a beautiful city! This picture is taken inside a “dollar” store. Ruins were found, and they can’t be moved/removed, so a glass floor was placed atop the ruins. Amazing! @Cruising-along, I took pictures of doggos for my DD. She's really a cat person, but has discovered how much she loves the doggie pets, and smiles.

Crazy what a small world it is. Edited - I just read the post above mine and see I am right. Awesome! Edited October 9, 2020 by StLouisCruisers

MAVIP Posted October 10, 2020 #61 Share Posted October 10, 2020 Once in a while we check the progress of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Meanwhile we concluded we will never see it finished. This is one picture of our visit on October 10th, 2013 with the m.s. Rotterdam (11 night Riviera and Italian Adventure).

VintageGeo Posted October 10, 2020 #63 Share Posted October 10, 2020 Good afternoon. We spent this date in 2017 seeing the sights around Quebec. We did a double decker bus tour, had a great al fresco lunch, and later said goodbye to the Zuiderdam. Having only sailed HAL before, part of us wished we were onboard as we watched the sail out. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Quebec City. The day of rain somewhat curtailed our plans, so when the situation allows, we very much hope to revisit this beautiful city. Cruising-along Posted October 10, 2020 #64 Share Posted October 10, 2020 One year ago today we were in Gibraltar. We were there several times that trip, and visited the monkeys our first visit. This day was very overcast so we just browsed around town for a few hours. Our wonderful cabin stewards made the famous monkey towel animal for us that night.
VintageGeo Posted October 10, 2020 #65 Share Posted October 10, 2020 And, we try to learn from every trip. We learned two things on this day... We aren't the only ones who sometimes take a wrong turn... ..and y'all grow trees up there that we don't grow in Kansas... VID_20171010_101828_Trim.mp4 Have a great day, everyone! rafinmd Posted October 10, 2020 #68 Share Posted October 10, 2020 Another post from my 2011 Blount Cruise. October 10 was a Monday and we sailed down the St. Lawrence to Quebec. A couple on the North shore provided a special gift to Mariners. They had flag poles and huge loudspeakers and with each passing ship they would play the national anthem and display the flag of the port of registry. Large cruise ships would not notice since they would pass the spot in the middle of the night (and at least I would not recognize the Dutch or Bahamas national songs anyway) but it was specisl to ud.. One of the Blount Captains did a blog post on them. http://www.captmikekiernan.com/2009/10/merci-madame-monique-et-monsieur.html I took a video but it was on extreme telephoto and I'm sorry about the shakiness of the image: Sadly, even in 2011 they were quite old so I don't know if it is still happening now. Canadian Thanksgiving also coincided with Blount's "Celebration Dinner" and we had a great cake: Roy

It gave me chills to watch your video and to read what the good Captain shared about these special people. I can only imagine experiencing it first hand. Then you would have seen a shaky video. 😃 I believe it does us all good to occasionally be reminded that ordinary people can do seemingly small things that make a difference in this world to someone. VintageGeo Posted October 11, 2020 #71 Share Posted October 11, 2020 Good morning. In 2017 we took the hike from our hotel to the ship. It was a nice walk around the marina, we were quickly on board the Vision, and it seemed no time until we sailed out of the St. Charles estuary into the St. Lawrence and said farewell to Quebec. Hope everyone has a great day! Lori & George

Tapi Posted October 11, 2020 #74 Share Posted October 11, 2020 (edited) We normally cruise in November (last time on a Mediterranean cruise), but in 2014 I was starting a new job during that time. With a limited number of days and a reduced budget, we sailed earlier in October on a quick Princess cruise along the Pacific Coast. Turned out to be a wonderful experience: Edited October 11, 2020 by Tapi
rafinmd Posted October 11, 2020 #75 Share Posted October 11, 2020 Continuing with memories from my 2011 Blount cruise but more familiar ports. I have never been to Quebec on HAL although I was booked to board the Zuiderdam there on September 17. Just North of town we have the falls of Montmarency: This is the "National Assembly" building (Actually the Provincial Capitol but some Quebecers are a bit cheey): And of course the Chateau Frontenac: Roy
