Rare ski ww Posted October 18, 2020 #126 Share Posted October 18, 2020 On this day in 2014 on the Prinsendam we were doing a early morning transit through the Bosphorous & Dardanelles into the Mediterranean after spending about a week cruising in the Black Sea.
MAVIP Posted October 18, 2020 #127 Share Posted October 18, 2020 October 18th, 2013 ms Rotterdam Messina. Missed the train and bus from Messina, but we visited Taormina (together with 3 other passengers with the same problem) in a more comfortable way by taxi.
Rare rafinmd Posted October 18, 2020 #128 Share Posted October 18, 2020 October 18, 2017 the Amsterdam visited Osaka. My tour visited Osaka Castle and Osaka tower. The Castle had 2 moats. The outer one at least in the present time is dry: The inner moat was filled with water: There were 190 steps to the top of the tower but the views were great: When we returned to the ship we were welcomed home: Roy
Cruising-along Posted October 18, 2020 #129 Share Posted October 18, 2020 One year ago was our first of 26 days aboard the Koningsdam. We were treated to a fabulous view of Stromboli -- we passed by the volcano 3 times that trip and this was the most spectacular. Three years ago we were in Charleston during our East Coast cruise. Sunset photo was from that day. We visited 2 plantations, Middleton and Boone Hall.
VintageGeo Posted October 18, 2020 #130 Share Posted October 18, 2020 In 2017 we were in Boston. We did a city tour, saw the North Bridge and Lexington Commons, stopped at the Old North Church and Copley Square, and had lunch at Quincy Market. The city lights were beautiful as we sailed out that evening. We had a fun, educational day on our first visit to Boston. Lori & George

MAVIP Posted October 19, 2020 #132 Share Posted October 19, 2020 October 19th, 2013, Naples with a perfect (privately guided) visit of Pompeii. Our 1st visit of Naples, but in the meantime we know it was not our last. 2
Rare rafinmd Posted October 19, 2020 #133 Share Posted October 19, 2020 October 19, 2017 the Amsterdam was in Beppu, Japan. My tour spent MUCH of time on the bus but our first destination was the Rakanji shrine. We were not allowed to take photos of the structure without people in the picture, so I swapped cameras with someone else: There was very little English at the Shrine but one stood out: Most of the access was via a chair lift. Here's the view on the way back down: Our second stop was at a tunnel passing a bottleneck in a passage through a canyon. A priest started digging a tunnel by hand and others eventually joined him but the project took 30 years to complete: Roy 5
VintageGeo Posted October 19, 2020 #134 Share Posted October 19, 2020 Good morning. Three years ago we sailed into Mt. Desert Narrows for a visit to Acadia National Park. It was a lovely fall day and the weather (with the slight exception of the clouds and cold wind that blew in while we were on Cadillac Mountain) was perfect. We enjoyed our day, and we hope to drive there someday to spend more time exploring. Jordan Pond is such a lovely spot. Thanks again to everyone for the beautiful pictures and all of your memories that are being shared. We have enjoyed this thread. Have a great day! Cruising-along Posted October 19, 2020 #136 Share Posted October 19, 2020 A year ago we had a nice day at sea on the Koningsdam. We played Bingo and both of us won, I won the blackout. 😄 A wine tasting and dinner in the Canaletto, great stage show, Rolling Stones Rock Room and finished up with B.B. King. Very nice day.

VintageGeo Posted October 20, 2020 #139 Share Posted October 20, 2020 Three years ago we had a port stop in Rockland, Maine. We travelled to Camden where we boarded a two-masted schooner for a sailing excursion. We could not have asked for better weather. Camden from atop Mt. Battie Sailing onboard the Surprise The Curtis Island lighthouse from the Surprise On sailing out from Rockland we passed the Rockland breakwater lighthouse And we ended our day with a lovely Maine sunset It was a day well spent and very much enjoyed. Cruising-along Posted October 20, 2020 #140 Share Posted October 20, 2020 One year ago we were in Dubrovnik (2nd time on that mega-anniversary trip). The first time we took an all-day tour into Bosnia, this day we did a wine tour. I think we went to 5 wineries, our little wine train was quite jolly by the time we got back to the ship!

Sat and Sun sailaways with a 5 O'clock adult beverage at home watching the screen with competition to see who had the best toots as the ships passed the condo and cameras. It sure helped get us in the mood between cruises. Edited October 20, 2020 by St Pete Cruiser spelling

Fully agree as Ajaccio market is or are concerned 😋! And....as we could not visit France and my Marseille soap is almost finished too, I asked a friend who lives in France in the summer months to buy me 10 pieces.... Perfect for our skins. (And we visited Naples twice in the meantime; "seeing Naples first, dying afterwards" 🙂 I do not know the perfect expression in English, if it exists..... ). The port of Ajaccio, France was a last minute addition to our August, 2017 Westerdam cruise due to some high winds and seas, skipping Calvi. We totally enjoyed this very scenic charming port of call. I would love to go back again someday. I remember the fantastic outdoor market and took a lot of photos there. I make a photo book of all our cruises and anytime I want to bring back memories I pore over those books. It helps to get through these trying times.
St Pete Cruiser Posted October 21, 2020 #149 Share Posted October 21, 2020 Last year from the Nieuw Statendam in Corfu, Greece. We toured on our own and enjoyed many beautiful sights. Just the views from the ship were nice. We were in port along with Oceania and Silver Seas, so we were the "poor" boys, but we didn't feel bad!
Rare rafinmd Posted October 21, 2020 #150 Share Posted October 21, 2020 October 21, 2017 the Amsterdam was in Kagoshima, Japan. We had 2 stops on my tour beginning with Aimura Lava Park, a collection of trails, tunnel, and bridges in a big lava field: The other stop was Sengen-en gardens and Shokko Shuiseikan Museum. The spot is the residence of the ruler on the island in the 17th to 19th centuries. We had heavy rain as we left Kagoshima but a local high school band gave us a great sendoff anyway. Their music included a fabulous version of "In The Mood" that really had the Promenade Deck jumping. Roy
