ECCruise Posted October 20, 2020 #4 Share Posted October 20, 2020 Wouldn't be surprised. It makes contact tracing seamless. Like many things that may be introduced with a restart (required masks, staggered and enforced check-in times, set dining with small groups, e.g.) all will have to make a decision whether or not to cruise and follow the rules or not cruise at all. Don't see any middle ground. 1

Rare mom says Posted October 20, 2020 #7 Share Posted October 20, 2020 Well they're behind the curve a bit on this. Other cruuse lines already have something similar, used in place of sail cards. Heck Disney has been using "magic" bands for many years now.

No doubt, but have those “Magic Bands” been good for placing exact location...I know they work for charging etc.. not that I read the linked article in OP’s post. LeeW Posted October 20, 2020 #10 Share Posted October 20, 2020 The Princess Medallion will track you down to a specific deck chair location (so you can order from the app). But in most of the ship it is hit or miss. Even on Sky Princess, which was designed for Medallion. It was also hit or miss whether it would open the cabin door without actually touching it to the door pad.

No...RCI...isn't, they've been using (offering) WOW bands for a few years.
phoenix_dream Posted October 20, 2020 #12 Share Posted October 20, 2020 I absolutely hate the idea of wearing these, but understand why they may be required for cruising during Covid times. Hope they don't become permanent

CHEZMARYLOU Posted October 20, 2020 #14 Share Posted October 20, 2020 I prefer to select my own jewelry and would not opt for one of these. I guess I could keep it in a pocket if necessary.

Rare hcat Posted October 22, 2020 #16 Share Posted October 22, 2020 Hope not on Celebrity anytime soon. Quite surprised how many have no objection to being tracked, not to mention the ugliness of the band.. is it removable? Not part of my original deal... would never book a cruise knowing this would be required. I am starting to wish we could get our LARGE fcc refunded, so we could stop worrying about all this bs! Less restrictive vacations are much more appealing to us!

I would not mind the wrist band at all, even w/o COVID, if it has all our on-board access information.

Yes their removable...just a rubber type band...you can also keep them in your pocket.
Rare Essiesmom Posted October 22, 2020 #20 Share Posted October 22, 2020 I would not have considered one, until my cruise on MSC Seaside. That one, you had to put your cruise card into the slot to operate the lights. Now, we had this on Nieuw Amsterdam, and MSC Divina, but with those, any card would do. Not on Seaside. It had to be the current card. Since I was usually the one to open the cabin door, my card went into the slot. But I am the early riser, and taking my card when I left the cabin, would have left my sister in the dark... So I would have to hunt up her card and put it in the slot. So I got the bracelet, and it worked wonderfully. Did everything but clock me on and off the ship. EM

Quite surprised how many have no objection to being tracked I'm equally surprised that you would object. The ship already tracks you with the onboard security camera system, so if they want to know where you have been during the course of the day, that information is already available to them. But do you really think that ships' crews have so much free time on their hands that they are going to concern themselves with the movements of a passenger unless there is a valid reason for doing so? All the wristband does is provide the information in a format that is more readily searched. If someone it determined to have COVID, it would be a monumental task to try to use the video footage to determine which other passengers have been in close contact. With the wrist bands, that type of search is quite quick and easy. Conversely, the wristbands are far less intrusive than videos as they track where you go but not what you do. wrk2cruise Posted October 22, 2020 #22 Share Posted October 22, 2020 Next time I see the captain he will say "Hey wrk2cruise I see you were at the buffet 17 times today!" 2
Covepointcruiser Posted October 22, 2020 #23 Share Posted October 22, 2020 Sure, wrk2cruise, the Captain has nothing better to do than watching where individual passengers go. This tracking would be very helpful to check that those confined to their cabins for COVID or for Norwalk actually stay in their cabin. Right now the Casino has CC TV for all areas but other public areas of the ship are also watched. Tapes exist for review if there is an incident. For those that are confined to their cabin (Yikes) all they would have to do is take them off if their similar to the WOW rubber type wrist bands that RCI has. If they want to find me I'll be in the Retreat Lounge. I personally think it's a good idea and I do have our states tracking app enabled on my iPhone.
