Using a future cruise certificate on an existing booking

So the travel agency saga continues.


I would be interested if anyone especially in the UK has used a future cruise certificate on an existing booking (which I know IS allowed) and had the price of their existing booking honoured.  I am being told the price of the cruise has to be increased if I use the future cruise certificate.  I am contacting Azamara and will share their response, but just wondering the experience of others.


And I have a second question - has anyone who had a future cruise certificate turned it back to cash.  My expectation was the amount I would receive would be the value of the certificate minus the 25% uplift but it I cannot get an amount confirmed that is anywhere near that, it seems much lower.  I have been told I have to work through the travel agent for the refund but I am rechecking that.

I have used an FCC against an existing booking and the price was the same and not increased  My booking is direct with Azamara and not through a travel agent as I said before I get no advantage using a travel agent but now can see the disadvantages through these posts.

We were intending to apply the FCC against B2B2B in May June 2021. All three cruises were impacted by the shifted charter. However, a virtually identical itinerary is available in Aug Sep. We were required to pay the currently going prices for theses cruises, which is more expensive overall on a per day basis but we’ve been able to apply the 125% FCC and retained the very good OBC which we previously held. The end result is we’re up for the taxes only (with prepaid May deposits transferred to the new bookings). It’s effectively the same financial outcome as the May cruises. They retained the pre-existing booking i.d., so effectively did a lift and shift, albeit that there is some price variance and the total nights are 3 fewer in Sep.

We’re very happy with the outcome of our dealings with Azamara and we’re more optimistic of being able to cruise by late Aug than in late May. We had booked direct  with Azamara so all communications were also direct.

We used an FCC that was for our deposit from a cruise we cancelled just before the final balance was due towards our 2021 booked cruise and the price has not increased.  I must admit the TA has as yet not been able to get Azamara to produce a new invoice, despite ringing Azamara a number of times.
