Amazon River - Dec 2022

Oceania has a itinerary that does only the Amazon from Miami to Miami.  Most itineraries carry on around South America which we have done.  If anyone has done this itinerary your input, comments are welcome.  Is Dec a good time to cruise to the Amazon?  We are new to Oceania.

There is a recent entire thread entitled “ Amazon River on Marina”. It has two pages of posts that will address any questions you may have.

if that thread doesn’t appear on your current Front page go one page back. Not a difficult search to find it.

Hi

We stopped at a few Caribbean ports on our cruise They were very memorable

The Amazon ports were interesting (especially the culture and history), very very hot, and best with a tour, IMO

The stops where children beg and show off sloths I can’t unsee

I’m very glad we did this cruise, but probably won’t do an Amazon cruise again

It was nice to return to a beautiful ship, new friends, great food, and friendly, helpful staff

Yes- the CC Search feature works well. But, FWIW, we did Amazon R (Miami to Miami) on O two TGs ago. We enjoyed our days on the river immensely and the Devil's Island stop. Like Miami itself, most of the to/from Caribbean stops are a "snooze fest." But, it's the Caribbean and IMO the only way to do that area is yacht charter.

Thank you everyone for your reply, will certainly think about this itinerary.

If you're new to Oceania, don't think too long.

The Amazon cruise is a very popular O itinerary and the popular ones usually are fully booked within weeks of their announcement. Remember that these are smaller ships (either <700 or <1200 passengers PRE-COVID) serving a very loyal group of regular O cruisers (many O cruises have >70% repeat customers on board).

We did this cruise on the Regatta. I found the ports very interesting, but don't expect a jungle experience. The Amazon up to Manaus is wide and deep enough for ocean going cruise ships; it's actually the only 'road' that connects Manaus with the rest of Brazil.

We went in November which was the end of the dry season. I think December would be better when the river is slightly higher for some of the excursions.
