Being Proactive: OBC and FCC

I just want to confirm what I think is "the process".

If you book a cruise with the FCC and OBC from a prior cruise....and add additional $$$ as the deposit

And then that cruise is canceled...

If you request your money back....does the original FCC and OBC stay in your account?

And in order to re-use it, would you have to book by the original date for rebooking (12/31/2020)...or the date given for the newly canceled cruise (as if you requested the OBC and FCC instead of cash)?

Thanks.......

Your correct about the return of monies.  To use it again, it will most likely be by a date that Carnival sets in the cancellation letter.  Proactive is good.

Twice I used the fcc and moved everything. Once for unknown carnival reasons $37 didnt move.

Personally I wouldnt add more cash. Not sure how much i owe, but my TA just moves it all, $37 refunded and I owe more than that. Even my stockholders credit moved to sept 2021.

Use the fcc toward the deposit and whatever cruisefare isnt paid.

Sorry I just keep moving it, cant answer how long you have.

If the cruise(s) get canceled my plan is:

2nd part...4 day...just ask for cash back

1st part....6 day...ask for cash back and to hold the OBC/FCC from the previous canceled cruise.

If I can't use the FCC (it's only $100) as a deposit....wait to rebook as long as possible.  I don't want an additional OBC...no matter how much.

If you have a $100 deposit only down and dont book another reduced deposit, then you have to pay the rest of the deposit if your fcc is only for $100. I had one I had to pay a little extra on to rebook. You can't just hold the previous obc from a cancelled cruise. It will be whatever new obc you get.

That's how I went from 800 obc to 750 now, the new obc incentive to book changed. Can't carryover old obc.

I had a $100 (it was from a deposit on a casino rate) FCC...and they didn't let me use it towards the next deposit.  But they did apply it towards the balance due.  I'm really getting sick and tired of booking...canceling...booking....canceling.

What I care about is "getting my cash deposit back" and keeping the FCC and $600 OBC from the original canceled cruise.

So...is this what you are saying?

If CCL cancels the cruise, I lose the OBC and FCC that was applied to this cruise....if I ask for cash back.  I would need to ask for "the new" FCC and OBC.  Would the FCCs be added together?

Idk but if you are asking for cash back, there is a date limit how long you can ask. Whatever the email stated.

The fcc is your own money, so yes its whatever real money you paid.

Obc you start all over again. I think they carried over my stock obc just so I didnt have to reapply but the 600 was from the latest cancelled cruise, doesnt carry over. The 50 was a booking incentive, I had 100 on the cancelled cruise I lost.

I saw someone post in another thread their pvp said to wait until dec to move their cruise, they are allowed one change of date to move a cruise without penalty. There must be a rule somewhere with dates, but it's not stated where us lowly pax can see this rule.

Yes the old obc goes away, next booking you start again unless some of the obc was from a fcc that was too large and excess applied as obc. Carnival is clear as mud?  Actually carnival makes more sense to me than rcl.

My TA is very good as he has a whole gang of us singing his praises so maybe my experience is unique but again, every time he has rebooked he used my fcc toward deposit. Others have also posted their fcc went to deposit. Just depends on who you talked to, there doesnt seem to be a rule.

@firefly333

Theoretically...I should end up with $600 FCC ($100 from cruise 1 and $500 from cruise 2)...and a $600 OCB from the newly canceled cruise (assuming that's what they offer).

And if I cancel before final payment....I keep the FCC perpetually but lose the OBC.

If not...it's just too complicated for me.

What's the $500 obc from? Idk if you keep it or not depends what it's from.

I've seen more than one thread where someone got $600 to rebook, rebooked a 3 to 5 day cruise. And was upset the old $600 disappears, now they only get $300 to rebook. The new obc depends on the length of last cancelled cruise. Unless it's from something else it's probably gone.

The email I got said specifically it's based on whatever the length of the cruise just cancelled. Obc doesnt carry over.

$100 FCC from the deposit of a  June cruise that was canceled plus $600 OBC for that cancellation.

If current cruise is canceled (part 1 of Sept b2b) $500 FCC from the deposit.

Total-$600 FCC

$600 OBC...on part 1 of Sept b2b.  If canceled, new cancellation gives me $600...so I still have $600 OBC.

If I take the cash for part 1....I get my $500 cash back.  I think that I keep the $100 FCC...but lose the OBC.

If there is a cancelation...for Part 2 of the B2B....I'm gonna just take the cash.  It was a $100 deposit.

Bottom line....not one penny more to Carnival.  So if they don't let me apply my deposit to another cruise...I'll take my $500 and forfeit the obc.  I can wait until cruising resumes to book. (There's also a TA issue which I don't want to get into...but I'll probably end up losing a bit there.)

Thanks for your help!

I got the email Wednesday saying that my February cruise was cancelled. At the time, I had only paid the deposit - final payment wasn't due until December, and I was basically waiting to see what was going to happen. My question is about the FCC/OBC offer - how does that work if I never fully paid for the cruise? Can I basically just roll over my deposit to a new cruise and get the OBC? Is it a price match for a comparable cruise? I'm a little unclear how it gets applied if the cruise wasn't fully paid for.

Also, do I have to pick the new cruise now or just state that I want the FCC/OBC option. I have a cruise that I'm interested in, but I'm a teacher, and our calendar for next year has not been approved yet - I don't want to book and then have it turn out to be a week I can't go.

Thanks in advance!

If you do nothing then you pick the fcc/obc option. You have to select refund to get a refund, otherwise it defaults to fcc.

No price match, and prices are probably higher. Each time I've had to get cancelled and rebook I've paid a higher price. I'm paying more than I would during a normal hurricane season. With so many having obc, prices are higher than normal times with no covid. At least out of Galveston.

I used to say rcl was much cheaper, but those deals gone too, just booked yesterday and paid almost as much for rcl, though still less for a group rate than ccl. Prices are up. Fewer ships and people with fcc to use up, up go prices. Now if we can just get vaccinated and restart cruises.

That obc isnt free, you pay for it with higher prices.

My replacement cruise was actually $200 less for the same itinerary. Since I had paid in full already, they gave me obc for the difference plus the $600 obc. You just have to browse around for dates with good prices.

To answer the original question, yes, you can apply it to a new cruise. If you go to the website under 'cancelled cruises', there's a form you can fill out to select a refund or FCC.

Thanks...but my original question was:

If I request "cash back" do I get to keep the original FCC and OBC that I received from the first cruise to the newly canceled cruise.

I think the answer is "Yes to FCC" but "No to OBC".

I only cruise out of NYC so my options are extremely limited.  As of now, nothing available until June 2022...and more expensive.  I generally book "last minute" and I don't want to commit to 2022.

So, if/when the current cruise is canceled I'm gonna ask for cash back and assume the $100 FCC will remain in my account until it's expired.

The $600 OBC is not your money - it is a marketing incentive to book another cruise. No cruise, no OBC.

If the OBC was some other promotion when you booked, it is still not your money.

I know....not my money.  Unless they re-instate 2021 from NYC (sometimes miracles do happen), I'm not booking into 2022, not at their current rates. (On a side note:  The  NYC tourism dept said they don't expect things to get back to where they were until 2024...and I assume cruising is included. Ugh....)

Something of interest - I rebooked a cruise today due to a January 2021 cancellation and the new cruise I booked was less than what I had paid for the January 2021 cruise. My PVP moved the overage to OBC. So now I have OBC of $600 due to cruise cancelled by Carnival + $50 that was part of my new booking offer + $133 that was the overage of the price I paid for new cruise - that's quite an OBC amount. Oh yes I will get the OBC for Carnival Stockholder too.

Same itinerary?  Same dates....just a year later?

Different itinerary, different port, different ship - 6 nights instead of 7, interior with obstructed view rather than interior - yes, one year later. Seems like a very long time away. Have lost count of cancellations. We keep anticiating though!
