Just Booked Northern Europe Cruise on Preziosa May 2020

Recommended Posts

I couldn't pass up the deal and it's been so long since we've traveled. I'm hoping things are somewhat normal again in May. There hasn't even been in person school for the kids where we live since COVID began. We are a family of five and it will be our first time cruising with three kids. We are sailing from Hamburg and going to the British Isles. I'd love suggestions on staying in Germany before the cruise. It's not our first time to Europe, but it will be our first time in Germany. I've never taken the kids to Europe before so I'm extremely nervous they will behave and enjoy the trip. I'm just so excited at the prospect of being able to get out and travel. It's also our first time on MSC and I'm looking forward to having a family suite. I'm reading through the travel books of where we're going...super nervous and excited!🙂😷😬

Hamburg is a nice city, although so far I've only ever disembarked rather than stayed overnight. Do check out the miniature railway - it's absolutely incredible and your kids should love it. Easily a whole morning or afternoon. https://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/

There is a good HoHo, and given that Hamburg is a water-focused city, it is worth getting a combined ticket with their boat tours as well.

I'm preparing for a later Preziosa cruise from there in August and my research has shown there are quite distinct quarters, so you might want to look at which one will interest you most. The Hamburg Tourism Information Centre has been really helpful in giving me a choice of hotels - https://www.hamburg-travel.com/

You can find some pretty good MSC and port specific information on the Cruise Critic forums.  The search function will only yield results less than two years old, by taking the time to scroll through the actual posts may give more information.

MSC forum search of "Hamburg" in titles:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/search/?q=hamburg&quick=1&type=forums_topic&nodes=49&search_in=titles

European ports topic boards:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/8-europe/

Preziosa reviews:  Use the Destination and Departure Port filters as desired.  Most first timer MSC cruisers have difficulties due to expecting a US cruise company experience or not researching MSC ahead of time.
