Mardi Gras cancellations

Recommended Posts

Looking for some information from the Carnival world out there. My question concerns the initial cancellations, not the virus cancellations. We were booked on the second and third sailings out of NY. They were cancelled because the ship was not going to be ready on time. We were given $200.00 OBC which we have used on our last two bookings that were cancelled. Just rebooked again but Carnival has changed its policy and has taken away the OBC. New policy you can’t have multiple  OBCs on cruises, only can have the $600.00  OBC from virus cancelled cruises. Carnival has told me they have taken this away from everyone. Does anyone still have the Mardi Gras OBC on their rebooked cruise

I had my March 2021 Mardi Gras canceled and changed it to the same week on the Horizon. I was able to get my $600 OBC moved to the new cruise. This was the credit I received from another cancellation this year. I forget the original cruise, there's been about 3 of them rescheduled!

Are you saying that if a person has more than one cruise booked and Carnival cancels them both, that they are only offering an OBC to rebook one of those cruises?

Currently, I have two cruises booked.  One is from a cruise I had booked that was cancelled in April, September, and January.  It is now booked for this coming April and I have the $600 OBC rebooking incentive.

The second cruise I booked with the free Cheers promo.

The answer to your question is yes. If you move to a new ship/sail date from the cruise you had the $200 Mardi Gras cancelation promo from, you will lose this OBC. Even if it's a booking canceled by Carnival.

They will only move the $600 cancelation OBC or any OBC you had as a payment overage or price reduction overage.

We still have our $200 OBC. We booked the Miracle for her 15 day round tripper from San Diego to Hawaii on April 5th of 2021. So we are still holding out hope that this cruise will happen. Just made our final payment on that cruise. You also should have gotten a pretty sweet (no cost) FCC from those canceled Mardi Gras cruises. Ours was around $1300 if memory serves, for the one way cruise down to her future permanent home in Florida. I'm guessing that the free FCC you got from the Mardi Gras sailings was transferred as "money paid" on your new cruise(s).

If our Hawaii cruise gets canceled, we'll take that free FCC we got from the canceled Mardi Gras sailing plus the $600 onboard credit and apply it to a new cruise. So yes, we will probably loose that extra $200 OBC from the Mardi Gras cancellation but life goes on. If the Hawaii gets canceled, we will also loose a bonus $300 OBC and a $380 Costco Shop Card from our TA. But maybe we'll get some of that back if we book a future Hawaii cruise in 2022. We already have 2 weeks booked at our timeshare in Cabo San Lucas for October 2021 so we can't make Miracle's Oct 2021 Hawaii sailing.

We also have $600 + $600 OBC from canceled B2B Carnival Magic cruises that were canceled in October. So we will eventually find a way to spend all this free money.

No, what I’m saying is all cruises that were cancelled due to the virus can’t keep piling up OBC from each cancelled cruise. For example if you received $600.00 from your first cancelled cruise and then that one also gets cancelled. You carry over the $600.00 but you will not receive any OBC offered for the rebooked cruise. What Carnival did to us was take away the $200.00 from a cruise that had nothing to do with the virus.

Carnival told me they took the two hundred away from everyone. Our $200.00 lasted through two cancellations. We were booked on that repo cruise also. What gets me disturbed is Carnival just took back the OBC saying we can do it with no explanation why it was done. Never got an e-mail, found out from our PVP when we rebooked our cancelled Horizon cruise. Talked to Carnival guest relations and unofficially it’s due to money. Thanks for your response, hope your $200.00 makes it to your Hawaii sailings

We still show $200 OBC on our rebooked cruise.  This is from a 2020 cruise that was cancelled and rebooked due to the ship construction delay and not Covid-19.  I'm guessing that Carnival is not allowing the $300/$600 Covid-19 OBC to be stacked with the $200 construction delay OBC.

We also got the $200 obc and 25% FCC for the delay canceled Mardi Gras repo cruise. We rebooked on the Sunrise for May 2019, but of course that was canceled due to Covid. We rebooked to the Horizon for April 2021. The FCC and $200 obc transferred over, along with $600 obc from the Covid cancellation. We also got $50 obc from an Early Saver booking promotion, so we have a total of $850 obc on the Horizon cruise. Since this cruise most likely will be canceled,  we'll have to see what happens next. 😎

Same as the above poster. Three of us were on the original maiden voyage that got cancelled. Besides the 25% FCC bonus, we got $100 OBC each if we booked another cruise for a total of $300. The cruise we booked after the Mardi Gras cancelled ended up getting cancelled due to covid-19. We were offered $600 OBC to rebook something so now we have a cruise for June 2021 to the Norwegian Fjords and our cruise ticket shows $900 OBC. We were able to keep both credits but it took the agent a few minutes to sort it out with their supervisor.

You get OBC (if there is any) base at time of booking. If you (or Carnival) cancel a cruise, OBC for that cruise is gone. If/when you rebook, if there is a promotion for that cruise (such as new $600 OBC) you get that. I don't know why anyone would expect to get two different promotions for the same booking (the new one). One booking, one promotion.

That isn't the case for this OP scenario, or at least it wasn't, with these pre-covid19 Mardi Gras cancelations. It might take being placed on hold for a bit, or hanging up and calling again, but you can get both of these OBC combined as shown above.

Hey NCL cruiser. Before you comment understand what the situation is with the $200.00 OBC. I’ll explain again to you.
1. Before COVID-19 Carnival Mardi Gras was cancelled because of building delays.

2. Received  $200.00 OBC plus 25% off next cruise.

Booked Horizon, received $600.00 plus $200.00 OBC ( Mardi Gras )

3. Horizon cancelled

4. Rebooked Horizon, received $600.00 plus $200.00 again

5. Horizon cancelled.

6. Rebooked Freedom, received  only the$600.00

Now listen closely please. The $200.00 was only given to people who had the Mardi Gras cancelled because of the initial construction delay. This was separate from the COVID $ 600.00.Anyone who has not cancelled in the last month or so still retain the $200.00. If they cancel they will lose the money

Now here’s Carnivals reply to me. We have the right to make these changes. The unofficial answer I got was to why they made the change is money, as in we need it. The loss of the $200.00 has nothing to do with accumulating OBC from each or your cancelled cruises.

Following - We had a Mardi Gras cruise booked for December 5, 2020 cruise.  I had signed up for the "early release" promotion that came with $200 OBC for booking immediately after the bookings for Mardi Gras opened, so we had $200 OBC on our account.

Later, when Carnival cancelled our 2020 cruise because of COVID, they were offering $600 OBC if you rebooked for a later date.  We rebooked for December 11, 2021.  We thought we would maintain our original $200 OBC, but we did not.

It seems that people who had zero dollars of OBC with their original booking got exactly what we got - $600 OBC.  So - booking early ended up getting us nothing, but Carnival got our deposit money way back in January 2019.

Then we had to pay an additional deposit when we changed the booking to 2021 (although the original deposit was eventually credited to our 2021 cruise booking).

I understand that and my scenario is the exact same as yours. I was on the original two cancelled MG cruises (included the maiden out of Copenhagen) due to construction delays pre-covid. Like what you just mentioned, our group was then eventually rebooked on a non MG cruise that was eventually cancelled due to covid. We booked another cruise (now the 4th cancelation cruise, two MG delays and two covid-cancelations) and were still able to get the $100 pp for MG delay added on top of the $600 OBC for rebooking a cancelled cruise due to covid. You might have to try a few agents or ask for the supervisor, but everyone in our group successfully combined the two OBC.

1. Mardi Gras Inaugurals out of Copenhagen Cancelled - given 25% FCC and $100 PP OBC.

2. Carnival Legend Europe for Aug 2020 booked with our $100 PP OBC applied. Eventually cancelled due to covid. $600 OBC offered if we rebook a cruise.

3. Carnival Panorama booked out of Long Beach for Nov 2020. Booking came with $900 OBC ($600 to rebook cancelled #2 above and $300 OBC from the $100 per person for the Mardi Gras delayed from #1 above)
4. Carnival Panorama cancelled so Carnival Legend out of Dover England booked with the $900 OBC transferred over.

It's a lot of wording but basically the same scenario.

My Feb Mardi Gras cruise got cancelled and I lost the OBC I originally had and got the new OBC when I rebooked so I have to disagree with you.

I recommend calling and speaking to a different agent. Let me see if this attachment works for a sailing. The first confirmation is with the $600 rebooking OBC and then after the supervisor approved the initial $100 pp Mardi Gras cancelation combination credit for a $900 OBC. If you just want to disagree still thats fine since it literally has zero impact on me but about a dozen different reservations I know have had the same success. Other people in this thread have too. 🤷‍♂️20201228_203340.thumb.jpg.df1261a0e2831f6d2c097207b8a699aa.jpg20201228_203352.thumb.jpg.c77db835814b59bdf6e42e1534e4a291.jpg

I too got to keep the $200 OBC for delayed Mardi Gras cruise and also got the $600 for the cancelled Mardi Gras that I had rebooked for Feb 6, 2021. The cruise rebooked this time was cheaper so we added that to the OBC along with $50 casino cash for a total of $1,195 of OBC.

You should have been able to keep the original $200 for the first construction delay, especially if all other sailings you rebooked were cancelled by carnival.

I've seen this complaint a lot on multiple FB groups and even on Carnivals and John Healds pages and they all say that the new $600 OBC offer trumps all other previous offers so while you may have been able to keep the initial OBC from the original Mardi Gras cancellations, you are not able to now.

We had something similar.  We had a 4 people cruise booked June of 2020.  When it cancelled, persons 1-3 booked a canal cruise for Feb 2021 and all 4 were booked on the Mardi Gras out of PC for June 2021.   This transaction gave each person $150 OBC.  So the Feb had $450 OBC and the June had $150 (each tied to the person).

Feb canal was cancelled.  We moved all the monies to the June cruise.  When all was said and done, Persons 1-3 have $200 each (from the feb cruise), and #4 has the original $150.  So the 4 of us have $750 in OBC from all these cancellations.

Do people honestly think Carnival is going to keep giving $600 and it accumulates?   They'd be out of business for sure! Don't we want them to keep sailing?

We are not talking about combining the $600 OBC that Carnival offered to rebook a cruise due to a cruise being canceled due to covid-19. We are talking about the OBC Carnival offered passengers who had their Mardi Gras cruise canceled due to shipyard delays before covid19. A max of one $600 obc combined with Mardi Gras construction delays which was $100 per person.

You are so correct. The problem arises when Carnival decided they had the right to take it away from you.
