Will ships be stopped from sailing from British ports before 17th May?

Simple cultural changes would help, like wearing a mask when out and about in the flu season, especially if you have the sniffles. A bit like wearing seatbelts

God, I hope not.

Don't  mind wearing mask when shopping,  it not very enjoyable anyway. If it's a chore wear protective equipment

However wearing a mask when doing something I enjoy,  on a nice walk, going for a meal,  when socialising  absolutely no way.

Spanish flu back in 1918/19 killed an estimated 54 million people.

Life continued after Spanish flu:

Another World War

Several episodes of genocide in a variety of countries

Proxy wars

On a postive note:

Life continued after WW1/Spanish flu, but life had changed forever.

Global events of huge magnitude brings about change, so we need to accept the changes and change ourselves. Nothing stays the same for ever.

I am sure you are right that these significant Global events did impact human behaviour, however I would suggest that scientific progress has had a much larger impact than all the global events combined.

What do we do differently now as a result of Spanish flu? That's not me disagreeing, I'm just curious as it's not something I've thought of before.

Probably nothing now but they probably would have done in the years following Spanish flu.

What about the crew onboard? Now way in hell they are vaccinated by June 21st. By no stretch of the imagination is that going to happen. I think it will be generally understand that most passengers will take the vaccine though Carnival will likely require it anyway. But the crew will not be vaccinated for some time to come. So surely masks and everything else will be around for a while longer yet?

I know you believe everything you say, however you cannot really be certain that the crew won't be vaccinated by June 21st.  If that were to be the only factor preventing cruise ships operating  then I would expect Carnival and the other major cruise lines would be moving Heaven and Earth to obtain vaccines to ensure they could restart operations.

Badness who we've seen a couple of times on shorter PandO cruises are also doing a couple of turns at Warners.

We saw utter madness and the strolling bones at the Chichester festival. Sometimes the tribute bands are better than the originals.

Yep, they perform the songs you know and not the 'latest' track that reached number 364 in the charts...

You have led a very sheltered life if you have never seen a 4 tops tribute act at any hotel you have stayed at?

Some years ago I was flying back from Bergamo on busines. I was in Club as the EU were paying. An Italian Gentleman told me Boney M were in front of us. I was quite star struck until I descovered that anybody who was ever in Boney M could use the name. There were about a dozen versions.

If you do a Google search, there’s loads of articles about this subject.

not just Spanish flu, any  major global event. Try the Black Death, or the Norman conquest.

Change is nothing new

We saw Status Quo at the British GP. They were brilliant, but should be as they have been playing the same stuff for donkeys years. The tribute version we saw at Warner's were very good as well.

Vallance did indicate it might be necessary for the next few years winter flu season.

Like most, I don't like wearing a mask, but if needs must. DW prefers me to wear a mask, but that's nothing to do with Covid🤔

I understand that wearing a mask didn't help when the Vikings landed in our towns and villages.

Many years ago my ancestor always wore a mask at work. Most of his colleagues did the same.

Masks should remain for life. There has bee no Flu season nor much of a Cold season this year because of that.

Interestingly, October through to Easter in pre-school is usually rife with coughs and colds but this year there have been hardly any, it really has been an eye opener. We don't wear masks but the real game changer has been good old fashioned hand washing. Our littlest children (2 year olds) have learnt to wash their hands thoroughly for 20 seconds, singing a hand washing song, at numerous points throughout the day. They could teach adults a thing or two outside the buffet on ships 🤣

A lesson to us all. DW still thinks it amusing that I sing ' coming round the mountains ' when I wash my hands. The rebel in me refuses to Sing happy birthday. On Brittania the kids club were singing when going down the stairs. " When your walking down the stairs hold the rail " amusing to watch the adults holding on, but not singing. I guess it's being taught proper.🤣

I can be very certain of even that. I would put all the gold in fort knox on it. UK/USA won't have vaccination of young persons done by June 21st and they are among the front runners in the vaccination race. I personally think we will miss our next vaccination target. Supplies are starting to slow down now for us. And if we have no chance of vaccination of all the younger people by June 21st then I would say very very few countries have a chance of doing that in the poorer regions of the world from whence a lot cruise ship crew members come from.

No one has an answer as to how they will get crews vaccinated quickly. Even the lines don't have that answer. But they are working on it.

I saw the original Four Tops in Peterborough around 1976.

With vaccine passports for all passengers, and all crew vaccinated somehow, then your objections could be overcome.  I don't say, or maybe even think, they will be, but these are strange times we live in, and if overseas holidays are legal, then it could be possible.

PS I hope you are not reckless enough to start gambling all your money on some of your views, I just hate to see grown men cry.🤣

I try never to hold the rail unless its really rocky -  think of all the unwashed hands that have been holding on to it.  I have noticed that a few years back there seemed to be someone  cleaning the rails all the time but recently they have been few and far between. Cost saving perhaps regardless of the consequences.

Same with pressing lift buttons,  especially when you see some people using the end of their walking sticks to press the call  buttons! Just gross.
