Mardi Gras (twofer) - Lack of videos and roll call. Along with some general questions!

Recommended Posts

Hey there - two things, which may have been previously addressed...

I find it surprising that Carnival has not had a person, or small production team go through the ship and provide a ship tour of sorts. Granted, their computer graphic mock ups have come a long way, but still... Most of what's out there, that I could find, was rather dated. And I'm not counting seeing the captain waving at the camera from 3-4 different spots, lol.

Also, is there a reason why there is not a CC roll call section for the Mardi Gras?

I'm guessing that, across the fleet at this point, there's no such thing as steakhouse reservations and such happening?

And, as long as I'm asking questions - does anyone know what level of crew they have onboard at this point? I wonder what the bare minimum would be, and how far prior to actual (or pseudo) sailings that they'd be bringing back the remainder of many supporting staff (servers, stewards, etc).

On a lark, yesterday, I booked the last excel suite on an August Mardi Gras sailing - knowing that it will likely go the way of the one we were supposed to be on this coming Saturday. Hope springs eternal though!

I was able to book Steakhouse and JiJi's for Sunshine's July 1, 2021 sailing.

We really enjoyed JiJi's on the Sunshine - one of the best meals that cruise (and we normally opt for specialty each evening). Good luck !

There was one, not too long ago - I thought about posting for the cruise I have planned, but got distracted.  So I assume they are still there.

Am i thinking of something else?  I could have sworn there were a bunch of video Tours posted with Heald about various parts of the ship?  Try that video place on the net.😏

Not that I recall - I don't believe Mr. Heald has been on the ship since it was fully built out.

Yep - probably best that he stay hunkered down until he gets vaccinated. Having said that, I assume he's been keeping a low profile, and that he's yet to be vaccinated. But we all know where assumptions can get you!!

Is he still doing a regular blog and such? I used to enjoy that, but have not followed him in a few years.

I don't recall much in the way of walk-through videos while still under construction.  Maybe I just missed them.

There have been a few short snippets released since the build was completed, and quite a few photos, all compiled into that "Talking Cruise" video released a couple of months ago, and an older CLIA sales rep overview video.  But nothing with lots of long-form walky-while-talky.

Well, if the Cruise Gods smile upon me, I will be on her in July. I plan to take tons of videos and post them. I don't normally post videos or vlogs, but will post a bunch. I expect I will still wake up at the crack of stupid even on a cruise. That leaves a lot of time to take videos while no one else is around.

I'm with you with the thinking that Carnival would have released SOMETHING.  I mean brand new ship...brand new stateroom category with the Excel suites....new exclusive area with Loft 19. I kinda expected at the very least a couple of pics of a couple of the Excel suites and the Loft 19 area.  It would seem they should have plenty of time on their hands and would want to capitalize on this dead cruising time with a little advertising...

My guess, and it is only that, is that once Carnival (and the industry as a whole) has a truly firm re-start date, we'll see a swath of promo videos come out - they are probably already made, just sitting on a shelf waiting for the right moment, as it were.

That's my guess as well. From a marketing standpoint, you don't want to waste positive momentum on something that isn't certain yet. Putting out fresh videos now would certainly generate buzz, but that buzz would be wasted on bookings that probably won't actually materialize in the form of a sailing just yet. So wait until restart dates are confirmed and then start firing on all cylinders with the videos they've probably been producing for a while now. I would also expect a whole lot of happy go lucky positive PR spin videos of crew members wearing masks and saying they are ready to serve you...probably in lots of different languages of their home countries. Just a hunch!

John has said that once he is able to get onboard he will start posting video. Not sure why Carnival is waiting for him to be onboard when Pierre is able to do these. Pierre one day posted a bunch of photos but where quickly taken down a couple hours after. I keep asking John about it, and his response  is always very soon.

I am personally looking forward to videos of the Excel suites and info as in which ones have the hot tubs.

Also how Loft 19 works. As in can I book a excel suite for Hubby and me and put my kids (young adults) in another, less expensive room and they can come visit our cabana in Loft 19

I was hoping they could get some vloggers or travel agents on board to at least give a tour of the different staterooms.  There are a few in Europe that I follow.  In the little I've seen, the computer graphic pictures and tours of the public spaces don't (understandably) match the actual pictures from the press releases.  We're booked for the last weekend of November 2021, and it would have been nice to see some stateroom pics, especially for the new categories.

I'm more and more confident MG is sailing this summer- July/ August.

Then I'd be able to cancel the back up Thanksgiving sailing I booked yesterday (a corner excel suite popped up that hadn't been there before). Thankfully, I have a week+ to spare after the supposed 8/7 sailing before final payment. I'd much prefer the August sailing - it's about two grand less, with some perks thanks to a casino rate, plus - it's a western route, AND it's much sooner! Looking at the basic eastern and western Mardi Gras ports, I'd definitely favor western!

I just want to cruise New Years- sounded cool.  Plus on the new ship... no brainer. this teacher (who has been teaching since September in person) NEEDS a cruise.

Cruising in New Years is an awesome thing. I always dreamed of cruising during winter and to hit the New Years eve or at least Christmas. I am sure its super fun to be on board at that time

I feel like that's possible - I would hope by August for sure.  About a month ago a spokesperson at Port Canaveral said they'll need three months to get ready for the first cruises.  So I'm hoping we'll hear some buzz about that in the next month or two.

We are still hoping and trying to stay as positive as possible for sailing on MG June 26th.... hope right!!

There are several roll calls, posted a bit earlier on ours.
