Cruises Restarting for Vaccinated Only, Will You Go...?

Not possible for Canadians because we have to wait 4 months between shots.  Someone dropped the ball big time.  Only 1.5% of the general population in Canada has been vaccinated with the two doses.

Yes, if I were vaccinated I would go.

You now have the option of the one shot J&J vaccine approved for Canada.

Yes to your hypothetical scenario.  I will definitely cruise if 100% of passengers and crew are vaccinated.  In this situation the onboard environment should be mask free.  If onboard masks are required on a fully vaccinated ship, which would be ridiculous,  I would definitely not cruise.  But I would have no problem wearing a mask and social distancing to travel to and from the ship.  And I would have no problem wearing a mask in all port stops.  Unless it was a cruise-owned port like Labadee where everybody there would be vaccinated (and outside).  One other thing- I would need to know in advance the exact plan if there was a positive Covid test or two onboard.  It could still happen on a fully vaccinated ship.  Probably not a severe case.  But what is the plan?

Yes, but only if we are allowed to book private tours.  That’s an absolute deal breaker for us.  And one we are concerned about for our April 2022 Japan cruise.

Ditto. If the only way off a ship is with a ship's tour, I'd book a land vacation.

Yup for sure! booked for 2021 Thanksgiving and will follow the requirements. Have our Pfizer shots and ready to go. We wear masks in public. We do invite friends who are vaccinated over for socials and so on.

Masks for ships? I’m starting to get use to wearing a mask around group environments so may work OK. but in reality, picture all the bars, coffee areas, dining, outside areas that most will be taking their masks off in. Probably leaving walking through the decks, the elevators, the shops, the casino and the theater as masking up? I can live with that.

Heck, so many keep talking about getting back to ‘normal’. Good chance the old normal is gone and. We need to reset ourselves. Been in Asia and many wear masks in crowds and it was ‘the norm’ prior to all of this.

In the long view (a year or more in advance) I completely agree.

But this is about cruises restarting and initially, I don't think there is a any chance of the "old normal" for at least the foreseeable future.  And I would have no problem being masked in the limited instances that it would be required on a cruise ship (elevators, inside queues, hallways and the like).

Frankly I would have no problem with masks being the "norm" in most public situations (not dining/bars) on land and sea.  Look at the low flu rates this year, no one I know that have worn their masks religiously has even gotten a cold.

Denny is right, there are many other parts of the world where it is already the "norm."

Yes, J&J has been approved in Canada but there's a huge difference in having a vaccine approved and having it in your arm!

Trudeau said Canada still doesn't have a target date for the first deliveries.

Agree 100%.   I'm wondering why so many here still want masks even after they are vaccinated.

That’s actually one thing that would not put us off although we do usually book private tours. We could live with the extra cost and lack of flexibility for the next cruise in Asia. I think limitations onboard would be more of a factor for us as the ship is always the most important thing for us.

They are still not sure if when vaccinated you could still carry the virus and of course being vaccinated is not 100% protection, more like 85% so I guess in theory with a ship with the average age of Celebrity cruisers there are still risks, it’s just reduced.

We are faced with the dilema of having a Panama Canal cruise set for Sept 2021. We booked in way back in Nov 2019, the day bookings open. It is a bucket list for us. We are not both fully vaccinated, the joys of being old I guess, and having a good governor running things right but we would not go if there is a mask mandate or a mandate for ship's tours only.  As much as we want to go wearing a mask while on a 16 night vacation is not our idea of fun.  Dealing with large tour groups on buses is also not our idea of fun.  Then there is the issue of the ports. A lot of countries on the itinerary are not close to being up to speed in the battle against COVID 19.  So in response to the OP, nope, we are not  going. We are not happy about it but we cannot see going until things are more normal, what ever normal is now.

Very true that the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infection, however they have proven to be 100% effective at preventing mortality.  We're never going to attain a 100% ironclad guarantee that we are safe from Covid (or flu, pneumonia, etc.).  Being vaccinated and surrounded by others who are vaccinated is probably as good as it gets.

We will go when we have freedom in ports . I do not want ships tours though!  I don't mind wearing a mask in crowds and will do so by choice as I see the drop in standard flu and colds  due to mask wearing. I have come home sick from many cruises in the past. Will make masks to match our clothes.

We can still get and give covid after vaccinations . I also won't cruise if I still need to isolate when returning home either.

Almost. Being vaccinated and surrounded by others who are vaccinated AND WEARING MASKS is probably as good as it gets. 😷

We have completed our shots.  We would happily sail on a ship with everyone (all humans of all ages) vaccinated.  Ports don't matter; we sail to be on a ship.  So we'd be happy to stay on the ship or take a cruise line tour, depending on where we are.  Masks, distancing, partial capacity would not be deal breakers at all.

I fully understand DAWG, but no matter that we want to ‘get back to’, we may well not have a choice. Generations have been through major upheavals that changed so much of what was ‘normal’, and no chance of returning, and this could be it for us. I’m a hugger and love contact, but reality has changed that, and it may well make it not acceptable.

Enough philosophizing and acting as if I have some special vision, just an observation. Look at how many won’t get the vaccine let alone refuse to wear a mask, both certainly protect the individual, but even more, protect the overall community, but don’t seem to care, or come up with some excuse.

Now back to cruising! We have no control of what the Lines will require or do and all we can do is decide to abide by it or not cruise, and wait......hoping it gets better and approaches something we’d recognize as ‘normal’.

Don't confuse wanting masks and willing to wear masks if required. We fall into the 2nd category.

The vaccination card right now is just a piece of paper anyone can copy.  Until they figure out a universal way for a card will this be useable.  I am vaccinated and it is listed in my medical record but I wont in any way share the record with a cruiseline.  Not sure how an official way can be shown on the vaccine currently, passport not a good idea not everyone has one etc.

Are you saying you won't confirm to the cruise line that you have been vaccinated?

By all means!  Already vaccinated and planning to sail Spain, Greece, Malta, etc. in October!  If masks are required all the time, we will cancel by the July refund deadline.  We can have fun locally or around our pool in that case!

Celebrity's track record for announcing cancellations well after Final Payment Date probably foretells their timing for announcing mask requirements for future cruses.  My guess is that unfortunately, the mask requirements for your October cruise will most likely not be known prior to your July FPD.

Let's say Celebrity got 100% of their crew vaccinated, & restarts cruising by June 1st.  They also requires 100% of the passengers to have a Covid Vaccine before sailing, will you get Vaccinated & are you willing to go cruising then...?

Please Let's not get into the intricate details

Unfortunately, the Devil is in the details.  If your hypothetical question had also included the hypothetical that all ports would be open, that masks would no longer be required, that cruises would not be prematurely terminated regardless of the number of new cases on board, etc.; then I could have said yes to your hypothetical.
