Happy St. Patrick Day! The luck of the Irish apparently has rubbed off on DH -- he's getting his jab of the J&J vaccine this afternoon in the hospital. Yay!! Now I can take us off the 10 lists that we're on! I get my second jab of Pfizer on April 2. It's all good!

@ger_77I am so sorry to hear about your friend.  Our prayers for him, his family and you 🙏🏻   Thank heavens his wife was permitted at his side.  There have been so many that couldn’t do that 😢 Hope your friend’s biopsy has good results 🤞

@Mary229Prayers and best wishes for your brother’s surgery

@cunnorl so sorry to hear about the timing of the golf tournament.  That would really hit home.  Hugs to you.

Is DH back in the hospital?  I thought he was in a rehab center.  Great news on the J&J.

A clarification of my previous posting.  I used to think of my self as computer literate, but not since my new computer.  Eddie is the one in the ball cap, next to his wife in a UN building that is exactly on the border between N and S Korea.  The military person is part of the UN Command.  The picture of 3 soldiers are N. Korean guards just over the border.  The bridge is the one he crossed coming home.  Sorry for the duplicate.

Good afternoon. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I fit right in with the days. Corned Beef and Cabbage is in the slow cooker, and I like submarines (both kinds).

Maybe bacon cheeseburger soup another day.

I've never been to South Korea.

It's sunny and in the 60's today. But rain the next 2 days.

@Mary229 Prayers for an uneventful surgery for your brother.

@summer slope Ewwww on that drink.

@StLouisCruisers Congrats on DD getting her second shot! They just moved teachers up to 1A here and shots have begun. We have an abundance of medical centers plus the 2nd oldest population in the nation, so our 1A population is big and hoping to be done by the end of the month.

@cunnorl It's a tough day for you. (((HUGS)))

@ger_77 Great on DH's shot. Condolences on the loss of your friend and prayers for your friend undergoing a biopsy.

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Stay safe everyone!

Good morning and happy St Paddy’s day.  Both DH and  I have Irish ancestry so it will be Irish stew tonight with Guinness for him!

My sincere condolences Gerry, and hope your friend does ok!  Prayers for all those both awaiting and undergoing surgery, neither easy especially during  Covid times.  I had major surgery very early in the pandemic and I was so very worried.,

DD is still well and it’s a week since exposure, hopefully stays that way!

Ann, love the primitivo,  Italy has some great reasonably priced wines!  We drank a lot of Nero d’Avila in Italy at 8 euros a bottle, and our table mates loved it!

Hopefully  Busan next year,  if anyone is planning  a visit to Jeju island,  do yourself a favour and read The Island of the Sea Women by Lisa See,  the story of these tank free divers, that supported their families.

Good morning everyone and Happy St Patrick’s Day!!  ☘️☘️☘️

Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. Roy, your meal suggestion looks amazing!  One of our favorites.

We had our corned beef 2 days ago and will be having leftovers tonight. I want to make Ruben sandwiches, an absolute favorite of mine. I’ll leave the cabbage/sauerkraut off DH’s as he very much dislikes it and add a bit of extra meat for him. I hope that I will have enough corned beef left for hash this weekend.

We haven’t been to today’s port. I’m enjoying reading about the port and the pictures.

Have a great day everyone!!

I have so many smiles on my face today.  Loved reading all the "St. Patrick's" greetings, hearing songs, and enjoying funnies!  Thanks.  This is my go to reading everyday, although I don't post every day.

What a week--I have been to two ports--Juneau and Busan.  Like most cruisers, I have been to Alaska 4 times, but to Juneau only 3 times.  We were in Busan in 2011 in our re-adjusted Japan cruise, when HAL had to scurry for another itinerary!  And I have also visited the Fish Market.  I have never seen some of those fish, so it was quite educational.  We also went to a Buddhist Monastery, but DH had difficulty breathing, so I stayed with him on the walk, so never got to go inside.  Busan was a lovely city, and the people were so friendly.

Our County will be coming off all restrictions next week, and anyone of any age can now get the vaccine.  Mask wearing will still be encouraged, as will social distancing, but all restaurants are already at 75% capacity.  We have been at 25-50% gradually for several months.  Our numbers are down dramatically!

I did the corned beef and cabbage on Sunday when it was convenient for family.  Sent all the leftovers home with them.  I just want an Irish coffee, but don't want to drive into big town to get a proper one.  Guess I could do a homemade version,.  but probably won't.

Wishing "luck of the Irish" to everyone today!

After our stop at Tianjin and the unforgettable visit to the Great Wall, the next port of call on Amsterdam's Grand Asia/Pacific voyage was Qingdao, also in the People's Republic of China. Qingdao is the largest commercial port in Shandong Province, well sheltered, ice free and silt free. It is also the headquarters for the Zhōngguó Rénmín Jiěfàngjūn Hǎijūn aka the People's Liberation Army Navy's North Sea Fleet. In addition to its headquarters role, Qingdao is a major naval base, consisting of various training schools for aviators, submarines and administration. I was kinds surprised to "roll in" on a western cruise ship and get a good look at modern frigates, amphibs/gators and attack submarines of the, at one time, super secretive communist Chinese navy

The boatmen were rigging the pilot ladder at the pilot break and when the bridge told us to open that pilot door hydraulically, we had a nice view of the 660-pax ferry New Golden Bridge V from the Chinese Weidong Ferry Company, arriving at the same time as we did. She makes three weekly runs between Qingdao and the South Korean port city of Incheon. In passing, we saw small and large local fishing boats, navy vessels and a fast pilot boat who dropped our pilot off. After escorting that pilot to the bridge, I stayed up there for several minutes to take some pics, before joining my crew at the gangway break. Arriving at a port you've never been before, especially a PRC port, never gets old.

Next to come in view on the approach was Qingdao's Tuándao dēngta (Tuandao lighthouse) which had a distinctive European look to it. The explanation: China ceded the already then important port of Qingdao to Germany in 1897. The Germans established a major naval base and remained in control of the city until the outbreak of World War I in 1914. This light dates from 1900 and is an octagonal stone tower with lantern and gallery, attached to several 1-1/2 story stone keeper's houses. The lighthouse itself is painted with black and white horizontal bands whereas the houses are painted white with orange tile roofs. The original lighthouse was destroyed by Japanese forces in 1914. This historic light station stands on the east side of the entrance to Jiāozhōu Bay and the harbor of Qingdao

We have also visited Chingdao, formerly known as Tsingtao and famous for its Tsingtao beer.  They have a beer museum at the site of the original German brewery and it is worth a visit.

I will be away from this site for a few days.  My DS and I are driving to Colorado tomorrow morning to pick up some parts for his "classic" car.  Hope we can make it there and back without having to put on chains in the mountains.

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Happy St. Patrick's Day every one - whether you're Irish or not, I'm sure the world will be awash in green and leprechauns.

Today I get to drive DH to get his first Covid jab - yay!  My age group hasn't come up yet, but hopefully maybe next week I'll be able to schedule my appointment.

On another note, thanks @rafinmd for putting our friend on the prayer list; sadly, he passed away yesterday.  We are comforted by the fact that the hospital allowed his wife to be by his side, holding his hand as he departed this realm.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra prayers going to a friend of ours who is going for a lung biopsy after being diagnosed with the dreaded "C.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry

So sorry to hear about the death of your friend and the biopsy of your friend. Cancer really sucks.

@rafinmd, I did a bit of research today and you officially started the Care List on 7/10/20, but you had a glimmer of starting a Care List the day before when you did a "Best to", and my DS was on that list because he had been exposed to Covid and was awaiting test results.  The Celebratory/Shoutout List officially started on 8/8/20 but you did mention starting it the day before.

Added bonus......  Plus, for those who were reading then, August 7th was the official day that Tomato Pie was one of the Days on Rich's List and we all know what happened after that!  Tomato Pie madness!

Happy St. Patrick's Day !!

Corned beef and cabbage is really good with ketchup.   Seriously.

My DH prefers horseradish!!

We had our corned beef a week or so ago and had sandwiches for a while.  I just cook it on the stove and let it simmer several hours before adding the potatoes, carrots, and cabbage.  I throw in a few onions !  Probably not traditional corned beef and cabbage but that's the way my mom made it and I have just continued.

Prayers to all who are having surgery, lost friends and loved ones, and those in the midst of bad weather.  Been a crazy March weather wise it seems.

Enjoyed all the St Patrick pictures.  Teaching on a St. Patrick's day was always fun.  Made sure everyone had something green on even if it was a paper shamrock. My classroom was "visited" by a leprechaun sometime before school started that day.  Made a mess, wrote us notes, and left a pot of gold coins  (chocolate of course)  The first graders loved it.

Stay well and safe everyone.  Reading this thread is a bright spot in my day.
