NCL not being fair with rebookings with Cruise Next Credits

Recommended Posts

I have had several, more than 3 cruises, canceled by NCL due to the Pandemic. While I understand the position the cruise lines are in, I would think they would do everything possible to retain their loyal customers. We are Platinum Plus cruisers with lots of previous voyages on NCL. I the past weeks, I have had another cruise cancelled that was booked for June. I anticipated it would be cancelled since I also had one on Princess cancelled a few weeks prior. I received a call from an agent on NCL asking if I had any questions, which was nice, but then we talked about rescheduling for July. My summer schedule only allows two weeks free so I picked my date and went on to pay for it (probably should have waited). The agent said they had transferred my fees, etc to FCC and I could use them on the new booking. Since I have rescheduled so much I thought I had enough money in my account due to the fact that each time a rescheduled, I paid more money and that they were giving 10-25% bonus. It seemed logical that I would not have to pay more. Then, to my surprise, she said I owed over $300 more! I questioned it but got nowhere. Then she said that I could only use 1 "Cruise Next" certificate that I had purchased even though I had 3 in my account. Here is the knock out punch....I had used 2 cruise next deposits on the canceled June cruise. She said since I am not booking 6 months in advance, the rules are I can only use 1 cruise next deposit. That would mean that I had to pay $250 more than the June cruise that they had canceled. That seemed totally unfair to me and I told her that. I would think they would honor the payment from the June cruise in the full amount but she said we could only use 1 on the July cruise. I agreed to pay her but I am still upset and hope NCL will see the unfairness in this rule and allow those who had a cruise canceled to use 2 cruise next credits on a rescheduled cruise. I could have just waited for a cruise for 6 months to use both cruise next deposits but I would hope NCL wants us to resume sailing ASAP. It seems like they are trying to milk every bit of money from the cruiser as possible. Does not seem fair to me. I hope to call them today again and speak with someone with common sense.

Sadly after 3 cancels i had to do a charge back many months ago.  I won because they could not guarantee when they could honor my original booking. I was disappointed that NCL did not handle the fcc expire 'dates and missing fcc's  .

NCL is just simply atrocious. That's all there is to it. They're milking everyone for anything they can squeeze out of them. If there's any cruise line that deserves to go belly up it's NCL.

They keep raising fares, cutting value, and their customer service absolutely sucks.

So given that...why are you spending time here?

I can only speak for myself, but when I feel that way about a company I want nothing to do with them.

Because I have FCC to use up with them from a cruise that we had cancelled less than 48 hours prior to when we were set to sail. Once that's used up...we're done with NCL.

I believe the ability to use more than one CRUISE NEXT certificate at a time is bound by any sort of promotion NCL has and the cabin choice.

I know with mine, I was able to use 2 cruise next certificates in a Haven suite, but only one cruise next certificate in a solo cabin.  Obviously, that was a couple of years ago.  But, that has always been the case with NCL as long as I’ve sailed with them (2 decades).

It's a NCL policy, nothing is forbidding them from being fair.

If I book a cabin using 2 cruise next certificates and YOU (the cruise lines) cancel my sailing then you SHOULD allow customers to book a different cabin without requiring that it be booked at least 6 months out in order to use 2 cruise next certificates since the customer did indeed book the original cruise more than 6 months out.

This is called CUSTOMER SERVICE. Something NCL is clearly lacking. They've turned into nothing more than a money hungry dumpster of a company that couldn't care any less about customers.

I just got off the phone with NCL. They were very pleasant and did accomodate me by allowing the 2 cruise next credits to be applies. I am glad and I want to give them my gratitude. I wish the original agent was as knowledgable but I understand that she did not know all the rules of cruise next and did point me in the right direction.  Case solved.

Why not just sell it and move on? Seems dumb to force yourself to patronize a cruise line given your expressed opinion of them. Don't you deserve better for yourself?

You can't sell a future cruise credit from a previous cancelled cruise. Trust me...if I could I would in a heartbeat. Even at less than full price.

This is great news, thanks for letting us know.  I'm very happy for you.

The problem with those on the phones, especially right now, is that some have had very little experience.  Most have never cruised either.  Thank goodness you took appropriate action and were able get things straightened out.  Good for you.

As MoCriseFan has said, you certainly can. I have done so myself. Both as the 'buyer" and the "seller". The only restriction is that they can only be transferred one time.

We have FCC for an Alaskan cruise that cancelled twice that we booked in 12/19. My aunt who is 90 is not sure she can handle a cruise by the time we can go. Where can we try to sell her FCC?

CC policy states "... posting a solicitation or advertising of any kind is not permitted on Cruise Critic.  This includes offers to sell/unload your Cruise Next certificates."  I presume it is the same for FCC.

If you have any questions you may email help@cruisecritic.com

The rules are in the contract. I am not 100% sure what you are arguing about with the Cruise Certificates. Next, the cruise going up in price. This has been the cadence with every cancelation. Every time they cancel a month, the future months all go up in price. Be happy it was only $300. RCL is not so nice. A few days after we rebooked a cruise on RCL before they canceled, it was $2200 for us. The morning they canceled, that same room went to $5600. That is when I knew they canceled another month.

The cruise lines have seen strong demand. That may simply be because of so much FCC floating around. The next thing people will complain about when they do get to cruise is the quality of the food has gone down, entertainment is lacking, casino payouts are bad, drinks are watered down, etc etc. You are going to see a drastic drop in service and quality as cruising gets back. Every possible corner will be cut and every possible thing they can nickel and dime for will be done.

What HuliHuli mentioned is true - no selling on CC forum.

Anyway, do you or any other family members would want to cruise?

If so, your aunt can transfer it to another NCL account.

Agree we had 1,700 OBC from our first cancelled cruise last April to this May. Cancelled again and they took the OBC away because the cabin will cost more in Oct. so ticked off but can't afford to lose all my money on the booking or would tell them to stuff it.

I am not trying to sell the FCC on this site. Just asked where else I might be able to sell her FCC besides family.

I looked around to see if there was a site which might allow this type of thing but really Abby, it seems it would be best to try your friends and family members.   The only other place might be FB or Instagram?? maybe...

Not much help I know but, not really much  can be done.  Many ppl here feel that cruising won't begin until later this fall and maybe even until early next year... who knows, not me, for sure.

Good luck, hope you can come up with a solution.

Hi I'm going through the same thing.  Is there anything you could share that would help?  Who did you speak to?  Thanks

I posted this earlier, but I had a cruise canceled on 8/15/21 Venice-Greece.  I booked the same day as they canceled on the Gem on 8/15/21 from DR.  I was unable to use 2 CNC on my booking because I was 130 days out, not 180.  They wouldn't budge.  I got a "Resolution Specialist" who after I yelled, cursed, screamed at her, she gave me a whopping $50 OBC. I also lost $200 OBC that I had from a DASH Sale on my prior canceled cruise.  I ended up selling my CNC for what I paid ($125) and am putting that towards the mandated NCL ONLY Excursions that we need to use if we plan on leaving the ship in port.....

Ugha, I read that too - only way off is to pay them?  I mean, we're already paying them.  Starting to sound like a big cancel to me.  See if I can get POM FCC back.
