Is NCL going to require passengers to be vaccinated like RCL & Celebrity?

Where in the world did you hear this? This is NOT TRUE and very misguided information. THIS is the reason there are people that are refusing the vaccine and are misinformed about it. Please look at this link.......

Covid-19 vaccines do NOT interact with your DNA in any way.

This is one of the favorite 'false facts' of those who are against the vaccines.

Both wife and I have had our two shots of the Pfizer vaccine.  It's not a big deal.  Our arms weren't even sore.  Hardly noticed it.

Any way you try to explain it the powers that be are trying to FORCE it on people. I mean you kind of explain that in your comment.

How is it being forced when you can simply say no thanks and move on with your life? You make zero sense. Its your choice ....  no one has a gun to your head. What is so hard to understand ?

BTW, here's an interesting article on Vaccine Passports as proof of vaccination.  These experts think they face too many problems to ever be implemented or effective.

https://www.businessinsider.com/covid-19-vaccine-passport-travel-immunization-challenges-privacy-equality-2021-3?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=webfeeds

Lots of nations are using vaccine passports internally quite successfully. Israel is a great example: they're aggressively vaccinating, and people are excited to get a covid passport on their digital device to allow them to attend concerts, dine out, etc. Internationally, there's not really a body that would want to coordinate a global system, especially if the US doesn't want to take the lead.

The larger issue regarding covid passports in America is that we have very different cultural perspectives on personal freedoms, and as general rule, we don't care about those freedoms impacting others. We want to do what we want, when we want, everyone else be damned.

The very idea of needing a vaccine passport is foreign to a lot of Americans, and if places are just opening up like hospitalizations and deaths aren't rising again (looking at you Texas), there's not really an incentive for vaccine passports. People are just going to do what they want anyway.

Looks like NCL might require crew vaccinations (unless this is an April Fools joke):

"Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) will require its crew aboard Norwegian, Oceania and Regent ships to have a COVID-19 vaccine, according to a report by Crew Center citing a letter sent to crew, which was also obtained by Cruise Industry News.

Citing a recent survey sent to crew on vaccinations, NCLH said that in order to provide the safest cruse experience possible, it will require all officers and crew to be fully vaccinated with an NCLH-accepted COVID-19 vaccine in order to work on company ships once they return to sailing."

...or choose a different cruise line that doesn't require vaccination. MSC is one (of several).

I've sent my status match to MSC three times now, and it gets kicked back for the most inane reasons -- I think I'll send it in German this time :-).

Off-topic: MSC has 50% off for healthcare workers.  Doesn't include me, but for the price, it might be worth taking a friend.

Face it: the same people who won't do a simple thing like wear a mask to reduce the risk of giving or getting a respiratory virus are exactly the same people who don't do a simple thing wash their hands after they wipe their butts or before touching the buffet to reduce the risk of getting or giving others a fecal-orally transmitted virus or bacteria.

Did you ever think that someone who can't/won't take this particular vax probably washes their hands much more often than most, doesn't touch surfaces with their bare hands when they can avoid it, and keeps their distance from people they don't know?

For a doctor, that's a pretty damned ignorant statement.

Nobody cares about those who can’t or more than like simply “won’t” get the vaccine.  It will be no worry what they do or don’t  as long as the cruise industry keeps these people a mile away from any cruise port. These people will be the death of the cruise when it does indeed get back to sailing.

Being an anti-vaxer and having a range of DSM-5 diagnosable disorders (as you outlined) are two very different things.

I would agree, but I think the good Dr is excepting people like that. It sounds like the Dr is talking about people NOT in that group, but people who decide they don't want the vaccine "just because."

(he/she didn't specifically say that, but I took it as implied).

FYI I was thinking earlier this morning during breakfast that one of the things that complicates talking about issues over the internet is you don't have the opportunity to ask someone for clarification as readily as you can in person. A lot of miscommunication comes down to that, I think.

And I agree about vaccinations, I'm all for them and, God willing, will be getting my 1st one tomorrow morning! 🙂

Not at all.   Most likely it will be brought forth as a requirement but like I said, it is an individuals choice.  You can't force someone to get it.

Just this week NYS amended there app to now include hotels, some larger shopping areas, smaller venues than stated, mass transit areas etc.  While the "law" may not be stated if you are hindering those freedoms then in effect, you are forcing them.  If my job, which it does, demands travel and stays in NY and in order to do so I must prove I am vaccinated, then my livelihood is tied to me having the vaccine...I AM FORCED to do it.  I will get the shot next week, it was my plan to do so because I choose to travel for pleasure and getting it is my choice in order to do what I enjoy.  I support any business that CHOOSES to limit it to vaccinated people.  Beyond that...you are walking a path that Stalin and the KGB once did, Hitler once did, a divided Germany once did.  How can you be ok with that?

Discount varies on sailing and date but better than other lines.

  1. Vaccines aren't Fascism, or Communism, and is barely socialism (other than the government paying for all Americans to get vaccinated). No one is dragging you forcibly to be vaccinated. If they are, you should call the police.
  2. Choosing not to get vaccinated endangers members of your community who can't get vaccinated. This is commonly known as community/herd immunity. As people can both get and spread the coronavirus, often without knowing it, getting a community vaccinated above a statistically significant threshold is super important.
  3. You aren't being forced, because the US government doesn't guarantee employment... you're free to get whatever job you want. If you want to hold a job that requires vaccination to successfully complete that job, that's your *choice*.... you could always get another job.

I'm getting the vaccine because I'm choosing to do so, but you are 100 percent right. Many people are being forced into getting the vaccine. Too many Americans do not seem to care and are ready to handover their freedoms. They are NOT seeing the bigger picture. Thanks for the great post, bravo!

Why not take a stand for your principles and forego the vaccine?  Set a noble standard; don’t be one of the sheeple!!

Hi, Incognito1.

2) Then there's your "people who _won't_" take the vaccine. Given that rational people are generally consistently rational, people who take steps like extraordinary hand washing and social distancing etc. are going to rationally choose ordinary steps like vaccination.

There's your fallacy.  You make an assumption, and paint with a broad brush, people who choose not to take this particular vaccine as irrational.  I'm sure there are some in that camp, just as there are some who promote the COVID emergency-use vaccines as always necessary, regardless of a person's own risk.  Do your own assessment of your own risk, and take the appropriate action.  That's rational.

Wondering what sort of doctor you are, assuming you are being factual about that.

Well great point, I was not going to get it at first but I do feel safe getting it. I did my research and feel comfortable', maybe not 100 percent, but good comfortable enough for me. What I do NOT like is people shaming people who choose not to. This is a free country and we need to respect everyone's personal choice on this matter. No one should be forced to take a vaccine if they do not want too. It seems a lot of people in power are trying everything in their power to take peoples rights away and that is NOT what this country stands for. Taking the vaccine is NOT against my principles. but forcing it on others is.

That is not how vaccines work!

We need a critical mass of people to get vaccinated as quickly as possible, because this effectively shuts down the virus’s ability to move from person to person and mutate in the process. If enough people make a “personal decision” decide not to get vaccinated, then we’re in for many many more years of the virus mutating and risking variants we aren’t immune to.

How is not taking a vaccine a noble gesture? Are Donald and Melania  sheeple? They both got the vaccine two months before I did.

Let's look at the real focused picture at hand. We are a cruising forum full of people who love to cruise. I think people understand and can respect freedom of choice. However, things for the cruise industry have been rough. When you talk about vaccinated and unvaccinated the issue is we are going to be packed into ONE SHIP, sharing it. We know what has happened before and how fragile it will be once it starts again.. Thats the issue..... Most don't care what you do at home with your personal life but when people decisions not to vaccinate can cost people around them their lives (non vax to non vax) and cost everyone on board a canceled cruise and maybe thousands of lost vacation dollars its a problem.

In my opinion, not taking the vaccine without a valid medical reason is irresponsible and foolish.  The noble gesture I noted was the standing up for the supposed principle of not loosing rights to choose and how that may collide against ability to participate in cruising and just about every event where groups of people will gather.  So, if the poster is ready to ‘live free and forgo’, set the example and live with all the consequences.  As for Donald, who cares what he does or did.  In my books he is the antithesis of good leadership.

Everyone has the right to make the decision to take the vaccine or not. However, I do wonder how many of those who are refusing the vaccine are willing to rush to the head of the line to sign up to refuse all medical treatment (and I mean ALL) should they contract this potentially deadly virus. Any takers? And yes I exercised my right and have taken the vaccine.

Right on! There are already people who ignored all the basics of this pandemic. Masking, social distancing, etc ...... who have ended up in the hospital with huge medical bills that they probably can't pay. Anti vaxxers want to play hard ball but they'd be right there at the hospital ER if they got covid and got sick enough. Be funny if the hospital could shut the door on them and yell "I'll bet you wish you had your vaccine now, eh!" ........lol.

Probably not. Kidless cruises would not sell. The vaccinated adult demographic is too small.

Kidless cruises with vaccinated adults would definitely sell.  Ever sailed in off-season?  A transatlantic?  Non-US based NCL cruises?  With all the pent-up demand, they'd sell out quickly.  It won't fill up all the ships but the cruise lines are going to reopen gradually anyways.
