Viking's Welcome Back Program

Recommended Posts

The Chairman has posted film # 7 to Viking TV. In addition to announcing the additional cancellation to 31st July, he discusses some new sailings they are working on:

  • Additional sailings in UK
  • New sailings around Iceland
  • New sailings around Bermuda
  • Also considering sailings in Greece and Malta

Did discuss the positive results on vaccinations and showed himself receiving his jab. He did say the new sailings Iceland/Bermuda would be for fully vaccinated pax. Not sure if that extended to the UK sailings and any others

Yes - just saw this as well.

We now have an inkling into their strategy to get people out there - do some limited vaccinations only cruises.  We are very interested in doing Bermuda.   Prices seem to be about what they are for other port oriented cruises on a per day basis.

Viking will also get to test out how popular they are.  And get a gauge on how important vaccinations are to people.

Viking Orion is doing Bermuda and Viking Sky is doing Iceland.

Thanks for the heads up.  Makes sense that Viking would resume in countries that want visitors and near where ships are currently located.

On the Canadian website we only get the heading "Welcome Back" under cruises. It provides a spot for us to sign up for notifications for future cruises. We don't even see the UK, Bermuda or Iceland cruises.

Probably because of our clown in Ottawa, our vaccination rates are well below UK and US. I just got my first and 2nd will be end July. DW is still about 2 weeks from getting her first jab.

Just to add, Viking is canceling Alaska, Russia & Ukraine.  MyVikingJourney is locked for our Ukraine river cruise in September.  See below:

As travel restrictions around the world continue to make international and cruise ship travel particularly complicated, we have made the decision to extend our suspension of previously scheduled departures through July 31, 2021. Additional operational complexities in some destinations require us to cancel further departures through the remainder of the 2021 season in Alaska, as well as in Russia and Ukraine. Guests and their travel advisors on impacted itineraries have been notified directly by Viking Customer Relations.

For us, we are disappointed about the Ukraine river cruise being canceled, but it is for the best.

Would love to join you, as we really enjoyed our only trip to Iceland in 2015. Enjoy the cruise and looking forward to the reports.

Unfortunately, we won't get our 2nd shorts until end July to mid-August, so with the additional 2 weeks to complete the immunity, earliest for us is September.

Got the same email this morning.

Had my two shots over three weeks ago.

I would love to go to either island.

Need to talk to sister or friend about Bermuda.

To be on a Viking ship again makes my day  thinking about  summer.

We booked the first Iceland cruise— and the Dogsitter!  I can book excursions on Friday.  Except, that like the UK cruises, MVJ won’t let me in to this booking, says it’s putting finishing touches on everything.  So another call to Viking, I guess.  Funny, no one asked about our vaccines or proof thereof...?

Egypt just cancelled for us, so TA is trying to get us on one of Iceland sailings for this summer. This is a shortened version of the cruise that we had planned on taking last summer. We are still sitting on airline vouchers and hoping we can use them to book our own flights.

There is a form we will have to fill out. It is spelled out here:  https://docs.vikingcruises.com/pdf/210405_COVID-19PoliciesAndProcedures_Ver1.pdf

Booked 7/17 Iceland cruise today.  Daily testing while on board.  No independent travel ashore - ship excursions only.  Masks while moving about ship.  Looking forward to our first Viking cruise.

We just booked Bermuda Trip for June 29.  Would have preferred July, but have a driving trip planned 2nd half of July on the West Coast.   Looking forward to it!

Will be like a resort.  Our TA said they are only booking maybe 1/2 the rooms - just like the UK cruises in May/June.   With a 1 week cruise, the only way someone gets COVID or spreads it is if they already had it before getting on board.

Definitely read this before you book. If you aren't ready for traveling in the Viking bubble, masks and more, you may want to reconsider.

You bet!  We did read, and that's why we chose Bermuda (we've been several times) rather than Iceland.  Will save Iceland for the future when we can get out and do things on our own!

When was your Egypt? I'm joining a friend in December. New Year's eve on the Nile!

Welcome to Viking! I’m sure you’ll love it.

We are considering but concerned that having to stay in Viking’s bubble ashore may mean we can’t do the things we would like to do.

We get our second shot on 4/23.  My 83 year old MIL in Vancouver got her first shot the same day we did, and isn’t getting her second until July.

Would not like the restrictions for Bermuda but since so much of what we want to see in Iceland is a good distance from the ship, we don't have a problem using the ship's tours instead of booking on our own. There isn't much in the way of public transit or taxi service in the coastal towns of Iceland. Renting a car is not always possible either.  And the Viking tours that we had booked for last summer weren't much more expensive than booking locally (if memory serves).

Affirmative, with the variants spreading rapidly and our daily numbers increasing, probably due to a number of 20 to 39's exibiting COVID fatigue and disregarding the guidelines, we have 4 months between jabs.

Since good immunity is provided with 1 jab, in BC,  they made the decision to delay 2nd jabs to get more people the 1st jab sooner.

The UK and US arranged early shipments of sufficient vaccine, but the clown in Ottawa purchased more than 10 times what we require, but didn't order early enough to get deliveries similar to UK & US. Therefore we have only about 12% with at least 1 jab. In BC, last week we achieved 30,000 jabs per day for the first time. We could do more, but Ottawa can't deliver.

I got my first jab last week, with the 2nd due end July/early August. If we receive more vaccines, these dates may be moved ahead.

Yeah, well the prices for the excursions on these Iceland cruises are going to be sky high, I bet.  But it will be worth every penny.  Golden Circle, here we come.

That’s good news!   Any memory of how much they were?

While we would like to go to Bermuda we think we wouldn’t like paying an excursion price to go lay on a beach since neither of us are that big of beach people. So the ship would be our resort (and one we know we enjoy) but given we aren’t doing a lot at home we are having trouble rationalizing spending money to just be on the ship.

Our TA has DV5 cabins holding for Iceland (including a single at 150%.)   Trying to decide.  🤯
