The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), is currently negotiating with the Government a possible opening of these ports in a bid to open up the Spanish tourism sector.

The situation in the Spanish tourism sector is becoming more and more critical. The coronavirus pandemic has greatly subdued the activity of tourism companies after the ban imposed by the Government on cruise ships docking in Spanish ports ruined their competitiveness in the international market.

Faced with this situation, Puertos del Estado has intensified its conversations with the Government in order to speed up opening the ports in time for the summer campaign. Since MSC cruises has huge succes by the reopening of cruising in Europe, and a lot of itineraries in the ports of Barcelona and Malaga this summer, it will be a great step forward.

Big News for Barcelona and MSC Seashore Cruises:

Among MSC Cruises' newly announced Mediterranean itineraries are the company's first sailings back at the Port of Barcelona.

Dan Solon | Apr 15, 2021

From August through October, new flagship MSC Seashore will be based there for seven-night cruises to Genoa, Naples, Messina, Malta and Marseille.

Test operations in June

The announcement follows declarations earlier this week by Mercé Conesa, chairman of the Barcelona Port Authority, and Barcelona's first deputy mayor, Jaume Collboni, confirming plans agreed by the port, the city government and the Catalán regional Generalitat, for test operations by various cruise lines during the second half of June.

The focus of these activities will be on the health and safety of passengers, crew and the local public.
