Can we stream March Madness on cabin TVs?

A group of our friends meets in late March each year to watch March Madness games and drink beer.  We're thinking of doing this on a cruise to Hawaii and Tahiti.  We figure one or more people need to have the NCAA app or something similar, get unlimited WIFI,  then stream it to our TVs.  Or can anyone who has sailed during March Madness tell me if Princess shows the games in the larger venues (like they do for American football)?   Many thanks.

I can't find your exact sailing or ship. Ships with Club Fusion may show some games at the Club Fusion Bar. You may also be able to see some games at the casino bar. Unless you have a mini or full suite it would be difficult to seat more than two or three in the cabin. With a mini suite you could maybe get 5 or six in the cabin by using the beds. I have never seen the NCAA games shown on the MUTS screen, nor on the cabin TV. I don't know if Princess has the rights like they do for NFL games.

Someone with a little tech knowledge and some plug in stuff may be able to connect your streaming device to the cabin TV. Some cabin TV's are mounted to the wall and the plug in is difficult to access.

I would think one of the bars on ship would have espn or sports package.  I doubt it will stream on tv in cabin. Other option is to have the sports apps on your ipad or laptop.

Can someone explain March Madness - I assume it's just a US phenomena that the rest of the world ignores!

It is the College US national basketball championship.

No, cricket and, of course rugby - like American football, but without the girlie padding and helmets!

I was never on a ship during March Madness, but I have tried to watch college football in the Fall. You can’t count on the games you want to watch being on screen anywhere on the ship. There is only on channel with sports, and it may have soccer or rugby, or whatever.

I was able to watch my game on my iPad with the ESPN app, but there is no way (that I could find ) to put it on the tv.

Good luck.

A cold assessment, but not an inaccurate one.

Made me chuckle

I would describe it as a mix of tribal pride and betting money on young athletes playing basketball:)

Don't forget to figure in the time zone difference between where the games are and where the ship will be.

Strange. But we used to cruise on Carnival during March madness and dh watched many of the games on the TV in our cabin

Not sure why you couldn't do the same thing on Princess?

It’s all about the betting for the vast majority.

They could if they pay for the rights. Don't know what rights Princess actually paid for in the past, any and all games, some games, 3 venues, all venues and cabins? I don't know how the NCAA actually sells the TV rights, but they are not free.

Reception also depends on location.  On Regal two years ago the ship went through a "dead zone" in the north Atlantic where internet speeds made "dial up" look good.  Thats said, have had high speed internet in Antarctic waters on Hurtigruten ships.

It may depend on the percentage of passengers on board that are American.  Princess won't pay for the rights if it won't be watched since, as already pointed out, most non Americans could care less about college basketball.

Thanks for all your replies.  Background:  We've been attending the US NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament for 41 years with my husband's fraternity brothers and spouses.  In 2023 we went to a Florida beach because tickets have become crazy expensive for nosebleed seats and watched the games in someone's room.  We're looking at the 28-day Hawaii-Tahiti-Samoa cruise on 3-17-2023 (available to book today for Elites, tomorrow for all others).

I just remembered of a thread a few months ago about Princess starting up Sports betting on ships:

I would think March Madness would be all about this new revenue activity and would think the more TV's they have games on the more people would bet on games (this is just US residents...lol).

Cheers,

John
