Thanks for telling us about the extension.   When I read the small print on the HAL website I understand that the promotional gift cards are not refundable.  Is that correct?   Please correct me if I am wrong.

Correct - they are not refundable to cash. If you make a payment with the cards that is then cancelled, you will  get back gift cards.
