Monaco Grand Prix

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been asked/answered previously, but my search failed to return anything.

We are booked for the 2022 (May) cruise onboard Symphony that includes an overnight stay in Monaco during the race (Saturday arrival, departing Sunday after the race concludes). Has anyone ever been on a Crystal cruise during the grand prix, and if so, could you enjoy the race from the ship (top deck), or are they anchored so far off that it's not worth it. Grandstand ticket prices for race day (Sunday) will be outrageously priced.

Thanks in advance.

We have been there 3 times on Crystal and we are also booked for next May. Even if Crystal was anchored closer to shore than it is, based on our experience you would not be able to see the race even on land without a ticket/pass.   Even the viewing spot from the Palace walls is roped off and requires a pass of some sort.   Crystal usually has two different price ranges of tickets with various amenities.  My family has bought ticket packages through Crystal twice but in 2019 we bought them through the F1 Grand Prix official site...better seats better price ( approximately 1/2).   However I should warn you that if you buy your tickets from someone other than Crystal and for some reason because of rough seas/weather or any other reason and you do not attend the race you will not be refunded your money.  The advantage of booking through Crystal is that you will not be charged for a ticket for an event you did not attend for the afore mentioned reasons.  Also if you have not been to Monte Carlo during race weekend the streets are very crowded and to have the direction from Crystal as to the proper gate entrance etc etc the first time there is more than helpful.  Once you know your way around it is easy to do on one’s own.

Fozzie, I wanted to second the comments from Cancun01.

I would go with the Crystal package.

I realize it is pricy.

However, they do a great job.

It can be very crowded to get over there on that day and it was nice to all be escorted there together and the seats were good and the day very special.

You will likely tender because they give priority to the smaller vessels.

Tendering can be tricky and a few years ago those on the Crystal tour got off first as you meet quite a bit earlier compared if you were doing it on your own.  Coincidentally the tenders eventually stopped running due to the weather.

With Crystal you are protected.  If you couldn't get off because of the tenders not running you would not be charged whereas when you are on your own if the tender service can't be run safely you are up a creek without a paddle.

It was a wonderful day and I am glad we had the opportunity to attend.

Read over the last couple of days they are thinking of re-routing or other ways to improve/ change race since with the cars being bigger these days there is really no passing on course.   I think this last weekend they said there was 1 pass on the race course and all the others were pit related.

Don't know when re-route will take place but I'd hold off for a bit before buying specific seats if that is the way you choose to do it.
