Carnival shareholder OB credit

Recommended Posts

Fingers crossed, we will be sailing on the Rotterdam on December 1 out of Fort Lauderdale.

How soon before our cruise should we request Carnival's shareholder onboard credit? 6 months? 3 months?

First time sailing with the shareholder credit, so not sure when to request.

Some employees will tell you the request should be made in the quarter the cruise takes place. Other employees accepted the request 6 months or more ahead. I usually request it 2 or 3 months ahead.

My upcoming cruises in October and November were credited in April. The only sticking point I usually run into is if the CCL AGM date (where the shareholder benefit comes up for approval / renewal) is between my request date and sailing date. If that is the case, then one needs to wait until the benefit is approved before applying for the next benefit year.   Scott.

I have found they will give the credit for any booked cruises that fall within the time frame that has been approved by the board.

And for Princess, people have posted that they received credit for cruises even after the approved time period. Princess is unique in that you used to be able to pre-book excursions and have them not show up on your credit card until you were onboard. There was a very negative reaction from their faithful cruisers when they took that away. They compromised by allowing you to pay for excursions before boarding with onboard credit, and it seems that they do it even for cruises not falling within the deadline. (They must realize that it gets extended every year.)

I typically wait until about 6 weeks prior to sailing.

The only time I ever had the request denied was on Zuiderdam, which was a casino fare.  Mind, it was NOT a 'free' cabin, but was deeply discounted.  Since I just booked a free offer last night for November, I won't bother to send it in.  I will send it in for my December NA cruise.  Or maybe I will.  Sometimes, it just depends on who handles the request.

Of course, the lines under the Carnival Corp umbrella do things differently.  Just because one line does something doesn't mean the others follow suit.  Carnival has been known to grant the SH OBC to anyone on any sailing, including free casino cabins.  I think the only ones they won't grant are interline fares.

Carnival also likes to keep their longer cruises at 13 nights, so they can avoid the $250 OBC.  The TA I should've been on this October was 16 nights.  It's already been cancelled and the replacement for next October is 13 nights, so that's $150 of OBC I won't have to spend on those long sea days.  Oh well.  Over the past decade, I've gotten a nice chunk of "free money" and until this past spring, the share price had treated me well (I bought at the then-low in early 2009).

Also a first timer (It was nice when the share price bottomed out, I could afford it), and I sent in the paperwork already and it's appearing for my cruise next April.

Just this week I sent them a fax.  I included the booking numbers of all 6 bookings I have thru early summer 2022.  Received a confirmation email today that it has been applied to all of them. That way it is done ...one less thing to think about.  Now here's hoping that they all sail!

Well, maybe I'll fax in for both my freebie and my full-fare All-In at the same time.  Maybe I'll get lucky and whomever gets it won't pay attention and apply them both.

Not going to hold my breath, though. 😉

It really just depends.  I know folks who have submitted way early and been instructed to reapply within 60 days of their sailing.  As with most things involving cruises, there's not a lot of consistency,.

We bought our shares when they bottomed out at $8.00 US last fall, and were pleasantly surprised when the OBC was renewed earlier this year!  And our cruise in December (again, fingers crossed!) we can begin to reap the benefits!!

Your post is unfinished.  My suggestion is when I bought RCI almost at it's low point during the 2008-2009 debacle for cruise stock prices, follow the advice of Warren Buffet.  Buy quality companies and hold on to them.  I have done so.  I have been rewarded by following his philosophy.

I submitted my request for the shareholder benefit for my upcoming 7/31 Alskan cruise via email at 2:30pm today and had a response from them that it was approved by 5:00pm.

I emailed my stock statement this afternoon as well for my two upcoming Alaska cruises and about an hour and 45 minutes later received confirmation for both. So yes, they are right on top of it. It was nice to be able to email in the request rather than have to fax it.

So, you email to World Cruise Reservations?  Seems odd, but I'll give it a go.

I've always emailed mine to Carnival.  I once got it applied 58 minutes after sending!  The past few times, it actually took them a couple of days.
