Booked Australia May 2022. Now what?

Recommended Posts

In early 2020 I booked a cruise on Splendor out of Sydney to GBR on May 31, 2022.   Now it looks like even if this ship sails, I won’t be able to go because Australia is saying it will keep the borders closed to the rest of us until mid 2022.  (I’m in California).  I have a nonrefundable deposit. Will I lose it if I cancel? Will carnival offer me anything if I wait until the last minute when final payment is due, if Australia is still keeping its borders closed? I guess what I’m asking is should I wait and if I wait will Carnival let me keep my money if I’m ineligible due to the border policy?  Because technically, the cruise will still sail. Without me 😢

This is a tough one since no cruises have sailed since March so this situation has not happened yet. I would call CCL or have your travel agent call and I would try to get the deposit moved to a different reservation, that I think is a lot more likely to happen than a refund of the deposit. I'd be surprised if this cruise is able to sail without letting foreigners into the country.

I’m betting they can fill this ship with Aussies.  I believe it is already sold out.  I have no idea how many booked cruisers are foreign, though.

Not sure where you got the idea that it was sold out, there is still a lot of availability in all stateroom categories. Id be surprised if Aus would be ok with a shipload of foreign crew members entering the country and still not allowing in vaccinated Americans, it would be pure politics at that point.

We just cancelled end of March 2022 B2B in Australia.

We told Carnival we couldn’t get visas in time to sail because of COVID.
They moved our deposits over to our Nov 2022 Panorama cruise.

They did however charge us $50 each change fee.
Disappointed they did that, but at least we didn’t lose $600+ we had already paid.

Can't you use this to get FCC?

If, following a declaration of a Public Health Emergency, you cancel a booking for a cruise scheduled during the declared emergency, or must cancel your booking because you are prohibited from traveling to the vessel due to a governmental travel restriction, but the cruise is not cancelled, you are entitled to a FCC for the amount paid to Carnival. In all other cases our standard cancellation policy will apply, as set forth in the Ticket Contract for your cruise.

I moved my October 2021 Splendor Cruise to a 2023 Spirit cruise (hopefully everything will be much closer to normal  by then). Told my PVP I didn't think Australia would be open and asked if I could move the cruise. Although there was a small penalty he was actually able to get me a better deal. My cruise was a nonrefundable casino deal but I still kept my casino cash etc.   I would call Carnival.

This is sad. I have a 10 day out of Sydney the end of March 2022. I booked it last year and didn't think then by 2022 it would be an issue. Hmm what to do.
