Good morning and thanks all!

A special thanks to Kazu for including the little souls from Kamloops on the care list.   This has deeply saddened me, and it is important to acknowledge!

We love Hawaii,  Honolulu not quite as much,  but usually we spend a month or so there in the winter.

Jacqui, hope the rest of the healing goes  better!

Hawaiian flowers for the garden club!

@kazu  Good to see that everything worked out even if it took longer than expected.

We tried to figure out how many times we've been to Hawaii, and it is at least 10 times.  All but one time, we have rented a car and circled the island  I will try not to duplicate pictures, with maybe the exception of Diamondhead and the Aloha Tower.  Since we have so many pictures, I'll post the ones of Honolulu first.  BTW, we have toured the Arizona, the Missouri and the plane museum, but I'll not duplicate with pictures of the first two.

The last time we were in Honolulu was Veterans Day, 2018, and Punchbowl (National Cemetery of the Pacific) was decorated in honor of the day.

Another iconic symbol of Honolulu was the original International Market.  Unfortunately my pictures of the original market are pre-digital.  These are pictures of the International Market as it was being rebuilt and after it was rebuilt.  At least, they kept the banyan tree.

Some of the vendors from the original market, relocated, and I believe it was across the street from the back of the International Market.

In 2007, we arrived three days before a cruise and stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  We lucked out and got an end room   The room had two balconies, one facing the sea and where you could see the Aloha Tower, and the other faced Diamond Head.  We'd have breakfast on the first balcony, and wine and a lite snack for supper on the balcony facing Diamondhead.

Views from our room, including a sunset.

In 2000, our call into Honolulu on P&O's Oriana was her maiden call.  As we sailed in at sunrise, we were met by fireboats, and a helicopter that dropped small orchids on the ship.  Somehow, we did not get any pictures of the orchid drop.

Rabbit! 🐇 And happy June! Thank you for Rich for starting the thread and the list-keepers for their great work.

Sending prayers to all on the prayer list and to those still having issues that aren't on the list. Cheers to those who are celebrating and recuperating nicely.

Hawaii is another port that we haven't been to, although it is one of our double-booked cruises for next spring. We'll see which one we actually end up taking. As such, I am enjoying every picture! Thank you to everyone for sharing!

It promises to be a wonderful day here in SW Ontario, today!

Blessings to all.

I'll try this again -- the photos on my computer went kind of nuts and kept duplicating -- hopefully this time works better.

We were in Honolulu in 2010 on the Zaandam.  Pre-digital, but I've found a few photos of our day.  We rented a car, drove around the island, climbed Diamond Head and had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.

It was my first cruise after joining CC, and we met several good friends that I cherish to this day.

I'm sure many of you recognize this man! The spelling of his name escapes me this morning.  We were fortunate to have him on several cruises.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, we also sailed on Golden Princess to Hawaii in 2012, on February 29.

Here are some pictures from our many drives around the island.

The entrance and some pictures in Waimea Valley on the north shore

Of course, pictures from Hawaii would not be complete without chickens.

We in 2017, we stopped at Sunset Beach on the north shore where the pro surfing was being held.  That day, it was too rough for the surfers to compete.  18 months later, the event had been moved to a more protected area.

Just after the turn from the north shore headed back to Honolulu, there are shrimp ponds and several food trucks selling shrimp meals.  We have eaten at this one twice.

In 2013, as we sailed from Honolulu, Keanoa was at the sail away hosting a lei tossing party.  Instead of throwing them in the ocean, we threw them in the Sea View pool.

White Rabbit!  White Rabbit!

It is a lovely sunny morning and I am hoping to head out into the garden for some weed pulling before it gets to hot.

We have been to Honolulu three times.  Twice on the Zaandam.

Hopefully I don't duplicate too many pictures.

These photos are from our 2012 cruise.

Hello Dailyites!

Love the three days - I also heard on the news this morning that it's World Reef Awareness Day, for all of you who have been lucky enough to visit one.

We've been to Hawaii twice - first in 2011 on the Zaandam from Vancouver, and then in 2015 on the Pride of America.  My photos from the Zaandam cruise would be very similar to those already posted - Waikiki Beach, the Arizona Memorial, and the USS Missouri. When we went in 2015 we stayed a few nights pre-cruise in the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort, right on the beach.  The views were amazing - but even though we were on the beach, we only spent about an hour and a half there (I burn easily, and get bored easily - after swimming for a while, I dried off and was done with the beach!).

After the Arizona and Missouri, we went to the Pacific Aviation Museum.  I was surprised to see holes in the building from the attack on Pearl Harbor!

Hope everyone has a good day.  @kazuglad you're earlier problem was solved, hoping this afternoon's visit will go well with no unexpected issues.

Our last port day in Honolulu was Christmas Eve, 2019 on a Princess ship.  A big Pacific storm arrived in the late afternoon and the Captain decided to ride the storm out in port. We spent most of Christmas Day tied up.
The wind and rain were pretty sever and I don’t think any passengers got off the ship, although some crew, desperate for a little shore leave did venture into town.  Of course, it being Christmas Day, everything was pretty much closed .

I spent most of the day just watching the storm-an interesting Christmas Day.   We sailed about 5 pm after the storm passed.

Good Tuesday morning.  Always try to say something nice to people.  I really like the quote, wish more would follow it.  The meal sounds and looks delicious.  Thank you Debbie for the recipe/photo.  Have not been to today's port but have seen many photo's over the years.

Prayers to help us all and a 🥤toast to our shout outs.

Stay safe, social distance, and please continue to wear your mask.

Ramos Gin Fizz:

Henry C. Ramos invented the Ramos gin fizz in 1888 at his bar, the Imperial Cabinet Saloon on Gravier Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. It was originally called a "New Orleans fizz", and is one of the city's most famous cocktails.
Ingredients
2 ounces gin
3/4 ounce simple syrup
1/2 ounce heavy cream
1/2 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
3 dashes orange flower water
1 fresh egg white
Club soda, to top

Steps
Add the gin, simple syrup, heavy cream, lemon and lime juices, orange flower water and egg white into a shaker and dry-shake (without ice) vigorously for about 10 seconds.
Add ice and shake for at least 15 seconds, until well-chilled.
Strain into a Collins glass.
Pour a little bit of club soda back and forth between the empty halves of the shaker tins to pick up any residual cream and egg white, then use that to top the drink.

Thank you Rich for the first Daily of June.  A special salute to our children and your community where we say many nice things each day.  I'm willing to flip a coin but haven't for quite a while.  Great advice in the quote.  I've cruised to Honolulu quite a few times but always on Crystal.  The chicken wings sound nice.  My alternative is Marinated Pineapple Spears, Basil Crusted Veal Rack, and Tiramisu as served on MS Prinsendam June 1, 2015.

Celebrations and Shoutouts:

Teachers, school workers and at home surrogates

Front Line Health Care Workers

Jabs for HAL crew (While we haven’t heard specifically I suspect Ft. Lauderdale and Los Angeles besides San Diego)

Good Tuesday morning to all, and thanks to Rich, Roy, Jacqui (hope all goes well from now on) and best wishes and prayers for everyone.  Hope everyone gets their rabbit!  DD is planning to make karaage fried chicken tonight in her air fryer, so it may be something like the dinner of the day.  I will be busy ferrying DH back and forth to the hospital for his colonoscopy.  He's wandering around the house now feeling sorry for himself.

We have also been to Hawaii many times, and hope for many more!  One place no-one has mentioned yet is Doris Duke's home in Honolulu.  We had the good luck to be in there on a day when it was open and I had to organize it months in advance.  We took a taxi to the Art Gallery, and from there we were taken (about 10 of us) in a van out to her home on the other side of Diamond Head.  She had a great of love of Moorish art, and I think she had another home in Venice which is now a museum.  All around the house were amazing huge glass doors which could sink down into the ground and make the ground floor completely open.  It is well worth a visit if it is open.

I have been to Honolulu many times since the 1970s. Last time was on Westy on our SoPac cruise in 2016 [ that quite a few on here - were also aboard] I'm not liking big cities, so tend to frequent the other islands [esp Kaua`i] But when staying on Oahu it has always been downtown - twice with a Road Scholar  group.. The first time we visited THE BUS was 50 cents [I understand it is much higher now.] and you could ride around the island, I have never driven a car on Oahu and don't want to.

It sure has changed from my first visit - much more touristy. I love the weather.🙂

I first stepped onto Hawaiian soil on April 27, 1956.  I have no idea why I remember that date so clearly.  I was eight years old.  My daddy was a Marine and had been transferred to the base at Kaneohe Bay.

Fast forward several decades.  In the last few 15, or so, years, of my carreer, I made somewhat regular trips to Hawaii (mostly, Honolulu) providing technical sales support.  I was pretty good friends with the local sales rep, Charles.  On one trip Charles mentioned that he had joined the Elks Lodge, and suggested that we go there in the afternoon for drinks and pupus.  Sounded good to me.

Are there any Elks out there reading this?  If you haven't done so, make a point of visiting the Waikiki Lodge.  It is just awesome.  It's a time machine.  It took me back to my childhood in Hawaii in 1956.

After I retired the first cruise we took was to Hawaii.  I contacted Charles and suggested we get together for lunch.  He thought that was a great idea, and also arranged for Danny and Stacy, two local field engineers, to join us.  We had a great time at a Dim Sum restaurant in Chinatown,  As another correspondent has noted, above, Chinatown is easy walking distance from Aloha Tower were the cruise ships berth.

After lunch, Charles took Mrs. XBGuy and I to the Waikiki Elks Lodge for drinks and pupus.

On my very first business trip to Honolulu in the mid-1990s I was strongly advised to not wear a suit and tie.  If you have any Aloha shirts, wear them.  So, over the years I did accummulate a collection of acceptable Aloha shirts.  I still have quite a few of them.  Some of them get pulled out for every Hawaiian cruise.

Good day all. Hope everyone had a good day. We were in the Hawaiian island in 1995 on a 4 island tour for our 25th wedding anniversary. We climbed diamond head and visited the Arizona memorial. Very moving at the memorial.  Should really have gone back for our 50th in 2020 but we spent that in Florida. All my pictures are predigital but we saw much of what has already been posted.

stay safe everyone.

Rabbit Rabbit!!  Good morning everyone and Happy Tuesday!!  Thank you for the Daily Rich. Thanks to Jacqui and Roy for the lists. I have heard of the Residential Schools before but hadn’t heard this latest news about the graves. Jacqui, I think it is very appropriate that you added the Kamloops children on the Care list today on International Children’s Day.

Today’s meal suggestion sounds good and I might try it with legs instead of wings.

I have been to Honolulu twice but not on a cruise. The first time was the summer of 1969, quite an eventful year. I was 14 and actually stayed with a couple, who were family friends, on Hickam AFB. We did a lot of touristy stuff but two events stood out. Since we were on base we had access to things most don’t get to see. The first was when Richard Nixon flew to Midway for talks. Air Force One stopped at Hickam and I was there in the small crowd watching the President walk up the stairs to the plane. I vividly remember him turning around and waving to us.  My parents went back home and I stayed the rest of the summer. The next major event was the landing of Apollo 11 in the Pacific and the astronauts taken to the base for observation. I didn’t get to see the astronauts but did get to see Apollo 11 drive by.  I have pictures somewhere but can’t find them, someday if I do I’ll post them.  I also remember all the damage to the buildings on base from the attack. They were never repaired.

Have a great day everyone!

@Av8rix and others have reported on Diamond Head but I don't think I've seen any photos, so I'll add a few, even though they're from Crystal.  The summit of the extinct volcano is 762 feet.  I took "The Bus" to the gate, with an elevation of about 50 feet.  The entry road makes a wide loop to get up to the level of the caldera and visitor center where a tunnel is cut through the side of the mountain.

tunnel2.jpg

Now a state park, a military lookout and gun base was set up on the summit early in the 20th center.  From the visitor center the trail to the top includes pretty steep paths, tunnels, staircases, concluding with a circular staircase up to the summit.  At one point I passed the remains of a hoist used to bring military equipment up to the top:

hoist.jpg

Here's one view from the summit:

summitview.jpg

You could also look down on the Diamond Head Light:

dhlight.jpg

I did not see anybody giving out certificates at the top but in any case at the time I was only 74.  I had been sweating profusely on the way up and thought of quitting but didn't.  I stopped on the way down for a photo of one of the staircases:

Good morning, well, afternoon, all! The wings sound good, but our chilly weather has suddenly given us one really HOT day, so whatever supper is, it will either be cold or warmed in the microwave! The plan of making split pea and ham soup today has been shelved! I have been to Honolulu twice on a ‘Dam ship, with a couple of hotel days before one of them. There are lots of pictures, but I have no idea where. DH and I did the Diamond Head climb. The views were wonderful, and the people watching even better!

@kazu, Jacqui thank you for adding the 215 children found behind the Residential School in Kamloops to the Care List. It is particularly poignant on International Children’s Day. I have driven past those grounds many times, having of course no idea what lay below the grass. As a mother, I’m having a really hard time dealing with this. I can only imagine what my friends with First Nations blood are going through. It is even harder knowing this was still going on when I was a child coming safely home to my own bed after school each day, and yet still when my children were coming safe home from school each day. This is not history, this is our story. I’m sorry to have gone on like this, but this has weighed heavy on my heart and mind all week.
On a better note, we were able to make an appointment today for DH’s second jab. He gets it June 18. I should be about 10:days behind!

Happy Tuesday, and the sooner we are back on our beloved BHB’s the better!
