From MSC's FAQ:

  • Is smoking allowed on board?

  •

  • In line with global standard, smoking areas on board are fewer than non-smoking areas and are indicated by signage and ashtrays.
  •
  • Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is not permitted in cabins, on cabin balconies and anywhere not expressly indicated by signage and ashtrays.
  •
  • The Company reserves the right to levy a fee should passengers be found smoking in non-designated areas of the vessel.  Repeatedly smoking in non-smoking areas can ultimately lead to disembarkation.
  •
  • We remind you that throwing cigarette butts or anything else overboard at sea is strictly prohibited as it may seriously put in danger safety at sea.

While I can't speak from experience with MSC, cruise lines have stopped permitting smoking in casinos more and more.  And there are usually stiff fines if smoke is detected inside your stateroom.

Thank you. As a non smoker I am happy the fewer smokers there are around.

I don't mind smokers being around, per se.  Most of them are very nice people.  I used to smoke myself.  It's the smoke that's the problem.  Not the person doing it.  Nor do I think stopping people from vaping is a battle even worth having.

My last one in 2019 smoking was allowed in the casino, we don't smoke and noticed not many were smoking, that was the Fantasia some newer cruise ships have smoking and non smoking areas, I have no idea if the newer MSC ships have this.

You probably need to name the ship.

Virtuosa has a smoking lounge at top of ship next to the Adult Lounge.

I was heading to the toilet just as someone opened the adjacent door to the smoking lounge and I reckon that whiff alone took 47 seconds off my life expectancy.

Our second cruise on Divina we had not even left Miami when we could see a woman in the next cabin smoking on the balcony.  I called guest services and within minutes there was someone at her door.  She never did it again.  E M

On Seaside, in 2019 in North America, smoking in casino, enough to stink you out.  MSC lags behind most lines in this regard.

Are you sure?  When we were on in early 2019, smoking was only allowed in one side (starboard slots only side), so that left the slightly larger port area smoke free at all of the staffed table games.  Didn't think the smoke was really present on that side.

I worded my comment clumsily. Of course people who smoke are no different from people who don’t.  It is the smoke that is the problem not the people. I am hoping the casino on Seashore is smoke free. I enjoy some time in the casino on a cruise but a lot of smoke and I have a problem with my breathing.
