@cruzn single, I  appreciate  your  thoughts  about  the  diagnosis and  I  am  sure  the  physicians  will  do  everything  they  can as  she  is  only  49. Our  very  close  friend  passed  away  from  this  disease  two  years  ago  but  he  was  of  course  much  older  and  the  PF  had  a  different  causative process. I  have  to  remind  myself  that  there  is  still  much  that  can  be  done  and  these  are  early  days.  It  must  have  been  a  huge  job  to  be  your  DH's caretaker  and  try  to  do  everything  else. Thank  you  again.

@StLouisCruisers and  @Quartzsite Cruiser,  I  think  DD  and  I  are  happy  to  be  of  assistance and  since  we  are  pretty  good  in  the  food arena it  keeps  us  busy. We  are  a  small  family  here  in  NY  and   want  to  do  all  we  can  while  she  lets  us😜.  When  in  doubt, eat!

@kazu, I  am  always  touched  by  your  kind  heart, thanks!

The  pictures  of  Montevideo  are  magnificent!

From the same cruise I posted yesterday some pictures from on the Zaandam Antarctica cruise we also landed in Montevideo , Uruguay . This is a very nice and easy port to start exploring either on a good walking tour or on your own because the heart of the city is so close by.

Without too many comments today I hope to show you a few nice pictures of the city and the different customs in this South American country

Good morning, all! Nature photography and smiles are important thing to celebrate. Prunes are important too, but not celebrated quite so openly. Roy has picked prime rib again - and the wine of the day would be perfect with it, so that’s pretty hard to beat!

We were in Montevideo, Uruguay in early 2020 on the Amsterdam. We arrived at dawn.

It’s a perfect port to wander in, and so safe after the towns of Brazil! Right across the street from the pier is a wonderful old part of town designed for pedestrians. Several streets have been turned into pedestrian only avenues, and gradually lead you to three main plazas.

My printing experiment was a success! It was a way of bundling fabric so it didn’t have to be folded, which limits and sometimes ruins the design. I made a 36” square scarf, and also a T-shirt, just to test the method on different thicknesses of fabric.

Im very pleased with this one. I’m leaving the background a clean white. I can see it as a shawl over the right Gala dress.

I didn't see @summer slope weigh in with the cocktail recipe yet.

The Americano is equal parts Campari and sweet vermouth over ice, topped off with club soda, and garnished with orange peel. It dates back to the 1860's and I recall seeing it mentioned a few times in Hemingway's "A Farewell to Arms".

It is a fairly low alcohol cocktail that is "a prime candidate for daytime and preprandial activities"

Good morning and thanks all!   Especially for all the Uruguay photos!
love the Steve Martin quote,. Reminds me of being in the Musee d’orsay when a woman said why are the signs all in French, they could put them in English if they wanted to!  I remember thinking but madame you’re in Paris!

@kazu love the Trollius photos,  was one of my moms favourites!

@rafinmd love the celebration  of good neighbors!  We raised a glass yesterday with two of ours celebrating their 65 th anniversary!
@cat shepard aw thanks,  but most of the credit goes to my DH.   Although I did buy him a professional camera and new huge lens for his upcoming big birthday,   He has been published for a gorgeous photo of Greece.   The grizzly is mine.  A few of my favourite mountain scenes one  in Jasper and One in Glacier National Parks.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Good days. I like to do nature photography, use prunes in my Christmas Hutzelbrot and occasionally snack on them, and of course smiles are wonderful.

The meal sounds like a good side dish. Americano is my Starbucks drink of choice. I like the wine.

I have been to Montevideo on my Zaandam SA/Antarctica cruise.

It's cooler here today and finally dry.

@smitty34877 It's good that Tana is getting some answers. I know pulmonary fibrosis can be difficult, so prayers that its progression can be halted. Your cooking and care for her DS is wonderful.

@mamaofami It's good to hear that Sam is progressing. Oh no on your spill! I'm glad you're only sore.

Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list.

@smitty34877 I am sorry to hear Tana's diagnosis, but there are several silver linings here.  First, she has you and DD to help her.  Second, there have been many advances in treatment over the years and there will continue to be.  Third, it was caught early.  Fourth, her son has  you and DD in his life and that is going to make a huge difference to him in the future.   My prayers are that her doctors can successfully slow the progression of this disease and help Tana achieve the quality of life she deserves and wants.

I was in Montevideo on my South America/Antarctica cruise in 2011.   I can't find my pictures right now, although others have posted pictures that are much better than any I have.   I do remember we just walked around town and at one point a woman came out and told us to be very careful because it was very dangerous for us to be walking in the streets by ourselves.    We did go to the market where all the meat vendors were and the food looked out of this world.  There was also a gift shop of sorts right at the top of the pier that had merchandise from Uruguay.   I purchased a wooden cross for my sister to put on her wall of crosses.

Below is my attempt at a nature picture.   Most of you are so much better at this.  I did use my phone, an iphone 12 pro.

Good afternoon everyone.  Thanks for the Daily Report.  I guess I'm a little late today.

Thank you to everyone who posted pictures.  We have not been to Montevideo,  it's wonderful to see.

Thanks too for all the wonderful nature pictures.  Great!

@smitty34877Thanks for the update on Tana.  Prayers are coming your way for her.

@mamaofamiGlad to hear Sam is progressing.  Please look after yourself too.  Prayers for the two of you.

Prayers for everyone on the care list.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Tuesday.  Stay safe.

Good Afternoon, Dailylites.  Stormy this morning, then hot and steamy, now looking like more storms are looming.

Thank you to all who contribute.  Cheers 🥂 to those on the celebratory list and healing hugs 🤗 to those on the care list (let’s get this one whittled down).

We were in Montevideo on January 1, 2014 (Golden Princess LA to Rio).  A roll call member had arranged a private tour with Hebert Sismondi and we had a great tour.  Since it was New Years Day, there were very few people out and about (which was great for touring).  We saw all the usual sights in the downtown area (which have already been covered by others).

We were supposed to also have a tour of a local winery with tastings, but a few days before we landed he found out they would be closed for the New Year.  As an alternative, Hebert opened his home to us and he, and his lovely wife, and three daughters treated us to a wine tasting!

Winery we were supposed to visit

Captain Jeroen v D turned his big ship, Nieuw Amsterdam, around at Berth #93 of the port of L.A. (San Pedro) yesterday so that his crew can perform routine maintenance, hull cleaning and davits load testing on the starboard side as they continue to take on crew and make ready for a shortened 2021 Alaska season out of Seattle which will commence on July 24th. That's him, the captain, during his daily exercise routine around Deck 10, saying hi, and taking a pic himself, of his former security officer (Zuiderdam) ashore in the Catalina Cruises parking lot 😉

One of the government administration buildings. Can you see me waving?

If you go the other way from the pier, you find the old city that is less commercial and polished, and the waterfront with people fishing off the breakwaters.
A garage below, residence above, with crumbling ancient masonry and rambling roses.

A bar that sells fishing gear, or a hardware store that serves drinks?

The Saturday fishermen. I’m not sure they catch any fish, but that isn’t really why they go fishing.

The same breakwater from the Amsterdam as we sail away.

And the T-shirt, which will be getting a bark dye dip.

And of course, Happy Tuesday, with a nod to our beloved BHB’s!

The scarf is another lovely one, and the t-shirt will be good in summer.

Really late to the party today.  Will read later to catch up.  Working on getting my scrapbooks finished from various cruises and the day got away from me.  Love all three of today's days.  The Martin quote is great, have heard people complain that the people in other countries speak differently.  Do not care for the recipe today.

Prayers and toasts to our lists.

Americano:

The Americano is an IBA official cocktail composed of Campari, sweet vermouth, and for the sparkling version, club soda and garnished with a slice of lemon. The cocktail was first served in creator Gaspare Campari's bar, Caffè Campari, in the 1860s. Wikipedia
Ingredients: 1 oz Campari, 1 oz Red Vermouth, Soda Water
Preparation: Pour the Campari and vermouth over ice into glass, add a splash of soda water and garnish with half orange slice.
Served: On the rocks; poured over ice
Standard garnish: Half an Orange Slice
Drinkware: Old Fashioned glass

@smitty34877Thanks for the update on Tana.  Prayers are coming your way for her.

@mamaofamiGlad to hear Sam is progressing.  Please look after yourself too.  Prayers for the two of you.

@grapau27I hope Pauline shares that pizza with you.  😉

Prayers for everyone on the care list.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Tuesday.  Stay safe.

Thanks Melanie.

I had the Calzone Pizza and a quarter of Pauline's enormous Pizza.

We were staying overnight pre-cruise in Southampton England.

Graham.

Good noontime everyone and Happy Tuesday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich. Good days today. I have tried to like prunes but can only eat them occasionally. I love nature photos for sure. I’m not too good but I try. Every day should be smile day, it makes you feel so happy.

I will pass on the meal suggestion. Tonight is fish that I have marinating in miso and sake.

Thanks to everyone who posted pictures of today’s port. Maybe someday!

Thank you for the lists Roy. Prayers to everyone!

Have a great day everyone!

@mamaofami  Good grief!  Please be careful!   Sam needs you in top form.  It is amazing how we lose the ability to do simple things like get up off the floor.   I was having a lot of trouble with that and went to some "gentle yoga" classes with my sister.   The exercises helped strengthen me without a stressful workout and I learned how to get up in a semi graceful manner.   That even worked for me after two knee replacements.   Now, I don't have to scoot to the stairs and dangle my legs over them to stand up.

@rafinmd I was remiss in not letting you know that I was thinking of you yesterday.  It is a difficult milestone to mark and it was good that you were busy.

Good morning everyone. Thanks  to  Rich,Roy  and  the  Food  and  Beverage  departments  for  the  Daily.

We  heard  late  yesterday about our  Tana's  results. She  had  Covid in April 2020 and  had  a  thankfully  short  hospitalization-at  her  own  hospital  where  she  is  a  nurse. She  has  some  auto  immune  issues  and  this  was  felt  to  be  the  driver  of  her  sporadic  fevers, fatigue  and  respiratory  issues. Her  lungs  show  scarring  secondary  to  this  on/off  process  of  inflammation. She  needs  to  consult  further  with  a  specialist but  the  preliminary  diagnosis  of  Pulmonary Fibrosis is  being  made. We  are  grateful  that  there  were  no  malignancies   noted. I  am  trying  so  hard  to  remain  calm. It  can  be  a  very  difficult thing  to  deal  with  as  there  is no  real  treatment.

We  tried  our  best  to  explain  all  of  this  to Tana's DS  without  creating  alarm  and  I  think  we answered all  of  his  questions. He  is  a  typical   almost  teenager though  and  a  man  of  few  words.

Today  DD  will  bring  Tana  home. I  cooked  like  a  crazy  woman  yesterday  so  they (and  we) have  enough  food  for  several  days. Cooking  is  a  blessing  at  times  like  this,at  least  for  me.

Anyway, thank  you  all  for  your  tremendous  support  and  caring. I  don't  even  have  the  words  to describe how  much  it  helps.

Terry

I’ve been so wrapped up in my own issues, I just read this now. I am so sorry to read about your daughter. Im praying that she will be ok. I had a friend who had it and the progression of the disease was very very slow. I hope that will be the case for her.

I have the name of a fabulous pulmonologist in NY at NYU if you need it. I know where you live but not your daughter.

@mamaofami, Thank  you  for  your  kind  offer.  It  is  probably  best  if  I  wait  and  see  what  Tana  does with  the  Docs  in  her  hospital  group. Insurance  issues  are  dicey  here  as  there  is  a  major  company that  is  not affiliating  with  that  group any  longer  and  it  has  sent  all  of  us  scrambling  to  find  other  specialists' when  needed. I  appreciate  the  thought, especially  when  your  plate  is  so  full. It  sounds  as  if  Sam  is  improving daily  and  we  all  cheer  him(and  you)  on!       Terry
