I remember smoking on an airplane. Remember those little ashtrays built into the arm rests of your chair. LOL

Yes I do. Remember cigarette lighters in cars that eventually morphed into charger outlets that morphed into USB ports.

Did anyone consider how those masks are going to smell after being in the smoke filled casino? Better pack extras or a lot of disposable ones.

Not only masks, but hair, clothes, etc., etc.,  Better run to the shower with clothes on afterwards -- bring extra clothes pins to dry clothes on balcony.  No balcony?  Send clothes out to be washed.

Clothes and hair are par for the course but the mask is right up on your nose.

Some of the ships had a policy of half of the casino for smoking and the other half non-smoking.  Unfortunately, they couldn't train the smoke to stay on the appropriate side.  It's kind of like a no-peeing section in a pool.

At sea as well as on land, the non-smoking sections of casinos always seem to be empty while the smoking sections seem to be packed.

Just my observation but that's pretty much the only test that needs to be done. All the stats are right there.

From one my favorite British TV shows.

I watched the first few episodes of The IT Crowd but couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll give it another try.

I am a lifelong non-smoker.  I am in the smoking section of the Royal Casinos because the tables in the non-smoking section (if any) are not open.  I have maintained a masters tier and would still attend regularly to the tables if the casino was non-smoking.  I would likely be smiling more though.

Good one.

If they don't mind risking suffering horribly and dying early from lung cancer then they are the true, ultimate and innate gamblers.

😏

I don't go to the casinos on board anymore.  I blame the smoke, but that's smoke.  A history of no luck.  My wife used to tell me to just take the ten hundreds I 'snuck' on the cruise (for the casino), exchange them for a wad of tens and twenties, and just walk through the casino and toss them in the air.  😒

I don't know about other states, but Florida has banned smoking inside casinos due to Florida's Clean Indoor Air Act which requires casinos, state horse tracks, dog tracks and jai-alai frontons to be non-smoking. Native American casinos like the Hard Rock in Florida are the only ones that allow smoking.  A lot of people won't go there due to the stench in the air that flows from the smoking to the non-smoking areas.

If the casinos in Florida weren't making money due to the non smoking policy, they would all be closed and no casinos would exist in except the Native American ones.  When they got rid of smoking in bars and restaurants, everyone said they would all go out of business -  they did not.  If they can get rid of smoking on land they can do it at sea.  Everyone would be better off for it.

Also a non-smoker, would be happier if there was no smoking, but I don't see it changing anytime soon.  Anecdotally, it seems late at night the tables are pretty much packed and many (probably slightly short of the majority) are smoking, along with boozing and betting big.  Purely from what I have seen, the $$ that rolls through the casino between midnight and 4/5am, when the smokers appear to be out in force is enough to keep things as is.

I do agree it would be nice to address the issue of it being a smoking lounge.

They might have actually changed it for Covid. The Adventure was a fully vaccinated cruise. The ones in US that aren’t might not allow it. According to the rules we will probably be wearing masks in the casino. Didn’t see anything about removing to smoke. Only actively eating and drinking.

Personally I play 3 card and let it ride. They usually only have a few tables to choose from and mostly smoking area. I hate it but have to deal with the smell. Maybe with social distancing it won’t be as bad. Maybe plexiglass?

Yes, we tend to play in the casino late at night when cruising and we always find the smoking side to be packed and the non smoking side to be empty.

Are all the smokers actually gambling or are there some using it as a smoking lounge just to smoke rather than going outside?  As some have said, the smoking policy (due to airborne transmission) could change (especially indoors) with the new health and safety protocols, when cruises restart out of Florida.

Or how about you get me an email address and I can write to thank them instead for not bowing down to the anti smoking lobbyists?

To bad the smokers can’t keep all the nasty smoke within themselves and not be able to blow it out where others have to breathe it. I really feel bad for the workers that are stuck in there. They probably won’t have decent medical health care later in life when issues start because they had to breathe in second hand smoke. 🤮

Interesting article on casinos and smoking policies:

"The pandemic has pushed more than 200 US casinos to go 'smoke free'. "

"More than 200 commercial and tribal casinos -- including every casino in New Jersey -- reopened their doors as 'smoke free' on Monday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, this kind of public health momentum in casinos would not have been possible, Brian King of the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health said during the CDC’s weekly partner call."

“If all these casinos remain smoke free even post Covid-19, this could have an immeasurable in terms of not only protecting the public who attend these venues, but also workers who are working eight hours or more per day in these environments,” King added."

It appears it's not only Florida.  Many states have reopened casinos with a smoking ban.

Maybe Celebrity IS the test.

Long past Celebrity being the test. Celerity has proven non smoking casinos including no inside smoking anywhere on their ships work. RC needs to follow Celebrity's lead!
