Please sell me on Quantum Class

Really like Anthem.  Food is very good and many options.  Like the music hall, 270 and the solarium. Port is good for us — less than 3 hour drive usually — front door to boarding ship!

Back when Quantum first sailed, they did Quest in the SeaPlex. Didn't work. Not many people stayed because everyone is forced to stand. This class really doesn't have a venue for Quest that's suitable.

Will be going on the Anthem again in January for the fifth time. Best things about this class: 270, SeaPlex, Music Hall, the Solarium, the pools, the Irish Pub, the North Star Bar.

The bad: the four [main] dining rooms, the casino, Bionic Bar, Boleros(too small).

Our Anthem cruise was very much one of our favs!

SO SO SO many things to do!

We loved hanging out in 270 during the day & the 2nd level of the Music Hall last at night.

DW and I went on the Quantum of the Seas in 2015 when it crossed from New Jersey to Asia where it stayed for many years. We were on the 16 day leg from Barcelona to Dubai. We loved it! It had all the action of the Oasis class, but not so big. Our favorite complimentary snack venue was the 270 restaurant. We loved sitting in 270 lounge and just relaxing too. During the day it has beautiful views of the sea and at night it turns into a huge, fun screensaver.

We would definitely do a Quantum class again, but the sailings are not very convenient for us.

Booked on Ovation in September, thank-you to all the positive posts in this thread.  Re-read Hoopster's review from 2019, so that helped as well. I booked deck 8 balconies as I thought it would be an easy walk to 270 and the Esplanade.  DS is autistic and doesn't like the elevators with a crowd.  Now I'm thinking, wondering if I should have booked higher up to be close to WJ and Solarium.  Does anyone have experience with deck 8, pros and cons?

Pool tables! I forgot to mention pool tables! Back of the Music Hall.

As far as I know, only the Radiance class has pool tables. Not that I ever got a chance to play pool as there was always people there - the same people I think. Pool table hogs. LOL.

They need to add pool table reservations to the Cruise Planner.

Going all the way back to the Radiance class. They have some sort of gyroscope mechanism that keeps them level.

Quantum class is like a bastard child of RCI and X.  Still, it is my second favorite class behind Oasis.

What does that make Edge then? 😉

The Quest is now held in Two70.  It's odd, but the CD makes it work.

What is wrong with the four dining rooms?

Boleros is small, but there are so many other venues!  On some ships, it's the primary entertainment spot. On Quantum class ships, it's one of several.

Anytime I've been on the Anthem and there's a good band in Boleros, it's always packed. Yes, Anthem has a lot of entertainment venues, but Boleros is just too small. Unless you arrive early for the entertainment there, you can't get a seat or even a drink at the bar.

The four dining rooms were built for the Dynamic Dining. When that bombed out and RCCL changed things, it just made things more confusing.

What's confusing about traditional on deck 3 and MTD on deck 4?

We  are all waiting for the Australian season to be canceled. So don't bother.

They'll enjoy the cancellation of a Quantum class cruise at least as much as any other.

I have to agree that I have trepidations about the Quantum class. I like a lot of the ideas but it just seems like there would be a lot of waiting in line to do the fun stuff. How are the lines for the bumper cars, iFly and The Eye? Do they have a setup with times where you don't have to waste time standing in line? Thanks!

For Ripcord, you need to make reservations - usually just one flight per sailing. Pre COVID, the others were first come first served,  but who knows how it will be handled now.

We have only cruised on Explorer and Radiance of RCI's ships.  Both ships are medium sized which we prefer as opposed to the mega ships with 6000 passengers.

We like the design of Celebrity's ships with all having the aft sunset bar just outside the buffet.  Many RCI ships have blocked off the aft for some reason.

Still, we plan on exploring more Royal cruises in the future due to the huge price increases for Celebrity.

We cruised over New Years.

We made reservations for the IFly so little waiting.

The Eye we did on a port day so no waiting--figured a sea day, you would just see, well, the ocean..

OH--forgot the Escape room! Get on the ship EARLY & make reservations, as there are few!!

I've never been that interesting in sailing on a Q class ship, but got moved from Indy to Odyssey in October, and immediately got excited for it. Freedom class has always been my favorite, but willing to try something else out.

One of the things I've never liked is that the balconies are tucked into the hull, something you don't have on Voyager, Freedom or Oasis. I like looking straight down and the deeper balconies, but I'm in a suite on the Hump on this cruise, so I think I'll be even with the hull so should be good. I think this was a "cold weather" feature, but the non-tucked in balconies is one thing I've always liked about Royal more than any of the other lines.

Anyone have an opinion on Adventure Ocean on Q-Class vs Freedom? Haven't been able to find much on YouTube yet.

Also I remember reading that you could do Standby for more iFly time way back when Quantum was brand new, is that still possible?

I actually agree with everything that you wrote here. I, too, appreciate the responses.

Me too! Definitely a Voyager/Freedom Class guy. The vast majority of my cruises have been on these classes, and because both are so similar it almost feels like coming home when stepping on board. I love that feeling. I don't have to learn my way around, I'm just 'home,' I know where everything is, know tricks and tips that others wouldn't, even get occasional "wow hi!" from crew members.

Oasis Class is cool and yes, has the WOW, my next cruise is Harmony, but there's just something that always pulls be back to those 'old' (am I really calling Voyager and Freedom Classes "OLD"??) ships.

All time fave - Navigator (8 times)

Indeed - The only automatic self-leveling pool tables. They made a pretty big deal of them when Radiance Class launched.

Talking of the similarities between Celebrity Solstice Class and Quantum Class, I'm reminded of a trip report someone did on the what he called the "Celebrity Quantum" a few years ago. A good read if I remember. One of those really good trip reporters.

It's really wild when the ship is rocking but the pool table surface stays level.   Unfortunately it doesn't improve my game.
