Ocean Medallion App - Part 3

So much ongoing angst over something that isn't actually needed. It has been reported repeatedly that one can simply show up with their docs and they can get everything taken care of at the port. If the app works for some that is great. If it doesn't work for others they should just ignore it and not have the stress many seem to be having.

True, but Princess needs to get it fixed.  Improvements and fixes have been happening, but at speed of molasses in a meat locker it seems.  The pre-cruise bookings need to work as well.

So what's the latest word on OBC for Medallion Net pre-orders?  Refundable?  Non-refundable?  50% ?

From the last live thread:

Apparently nonrefundable as printed on the Captain Circle benefit explanation footnote #8. Yes I understand that PCL CSR assured Steelers36 that it was refundable but it's not IRL so I'm adjusting my pre-cruise casino credit purchase accordingly

Footnote 8 in the PDF of revised Captain's Circle benefits does not describe the 50% as Non-Refundable OBC.  It is identified as a "Refund Credit".  My info still stands as it has not been refuted to date, with the exception of some obvious miss-steps on the GRAND inaugural where it was clear the Internet Cafe Mgr had no clue in regards to the changes in MedallionNet pricing and packages.

And it was not a CSR - this is from the Director, Customer Relations, and he would have got this from someone in the know and not a CSR.

No offense but I will not count on it being refundable. Nor will I waste any breath on how they choose to credit me $5 per day (turns out to be about 1% of my daily cost). I'm lucky. I can afford to spend way over that $5 per day onboard (and I've got up to 1150 OBC per cruise) 🎰🎰

Maybe the takeaway is plan for the 'worst (nonrefundable) hope for the 'best (refundable, ending with $0 OBC)

It is indeed first world problems and kinda something that is minor. My next cruise is 10 months away. If Medallian works great. If not, I show up at the port with hard copies of everything. No problem

I'd rather have a problem with Medallion than be hungry or not have a roof over my head.

Tell us more about your cruise, platform, OS level. I suspect a few things have changed: a. The App has improved / bugs fixed; b. New bookings do not have the data conversion problems that plagued early App users; c. Perhaps you have latest OS on a supported device and d. you are tech savvy enough to work around problems.

All of the above. On the Majestic now, iPhone 13, iPad, iOS 15.0.2. IT guy sine 1976, but, didn’t need to work around issues.  I’m guessing most issues are older phones and OS revs. I also assume no one posts when everything is working.

Funny how when they had the wrong sailing date I was able to request arrival time a few weeks ago.   I was group A & boarding time was 11:30 .  Now since they fixed  the date of our  cruise that’s for this November 10 , it says it’s too early. Second set of Medallions came a few days ago with the right date.   How could it be too early for arrival times???   Absolutely crazy

Some news about ordering MedallionNet in the MC App.

When you order the internet pre-cruise, it is supposed to recognize CC Status and apply the 50% discount if eligible.  This is not happening since MNet ordering was added.  IDK if this is an IT miss, and IT bug, or purposely deferred due to other priorities, but it is being looked into and I hope to provide an update on this.

Also, the 50% rebate (assuming you are charged full price) is supposed to be Refundable OBC.  The most recent ships that started sailing again have had uneven policy and confusion on this and it too is being looked into.

Finally, a new piece of info.  Supposedly, if you wait until on board, and order the MNet on embarkation (DAY 1), you will be charged at the pre-cruise rate ($10/day for 1-device and $20/day for 4-devices).  AFTER that first day, the price goes up to the $15/$25 rates.

This means, those folks who want to pay with OBC can wait until on board - but make sure it is on your DAY 1 To-Do list.  Someone on a ship now might want to visit the IC Cafe and ask the Mgr, but this is what it should be.  Perhaps this is happening as folks were reporting getting the $10/day rate on early Majestic sailings and I had assumed it was being done as folks could not easily pre-order the internet plan.

This policy is new to me as I was not informed of it when informed of the new MNet pricing and how it was going to work.  It is a bit of a game-changer for those who want the lower price and also want to use up OBC.  (It is also like the pre-Covid days when we HAD to wait until on board Day 1 to get our discount).

Once the above is all settled on the ships and working in MC App, it should be the best of both worlds for guests.

We’ve been trying to book a specialty restaurant reservation via the Medallion app for our Oct 31 cruise out of SF but when I go through all the steps and get the “Confirm Reservation” I get a message “an error occurred”. No matter what day or time I enter I always get the sane “an error occurred”.

We are also booked on the Ruby on Jan 16, 2022 to Hawaii and when I use the Medallion app to book specialty restaurant reservation for that cruise no problem reservations go right through..

I’ve spent hours on hold trying to get to Medallion support plus trading emails, once there they see the same problem and all they can say is they will send in a ticket (whatever that means) and someone will contact me, weeks now and nothing????

Has anyone experienced similar problems? The Medallion app definitely has problems and bugs !

Yes, it does.  And DMW needs work.  But, you are too close to the voyage - just make the res after you get onto the ship.  You should not have any problems getting a res when you want it if you act fairly promptly after boarding on Day 1.

We have never had a problem in the past getting reservations after getting on board.

Spent another 2.5 hours with Princess support and dev and they were able to recreate some of the 21 broken items with the app. The most consistent aspect of the app is that it is inconsistent.  Some items started to work and then stopped working, while they were looking at them. I spent 35 years as a software product manager and have never seen a released app this bad.  Will be showing up at the dock early next week with paperwork and hope it isn't a disaster.  Hopefully Princess hasn't messed up the onboard experience.

I've got 40+ years in IT and pretty much agree that this app stinks.  But I've been fairly patient and have us green lane with only the health check to do.  One annoying thing I've noticed is when they open an option like arrival times this morning for our cruise there are some burps.  Mostly seems like DB update delays.  Try the process again and again and get annoyed.  Log off then back in 20 minutes later and all is well.   All that said, we will always have our paper backup.

Now I am getting calls from Princess saying I have not filled out everything in the app. For the people that are not having any issues, are you using iOS or Android devices.

I have never, ever been of fan of helpdesks like you seem to be experiencing.  In the woke environment I could be fired for my true feelings.  They are, frankly, idiots.

What's interesting is that early in the call all items except arrival times were green.  Then a few minutes later only Medallion is green.  Princess says the data is there except for arrival times.  Also a couple of days ago my wife disappeared from the booking but Princess can also see all her information.

That's similar to what I've seen.  BTW, we drive down to Ft L from Charlotte and overnight in Melbourne.  Then coming back we overnight in St Aug.  Always eat at Sonny's and hit the outlets.  DW goes to Coach and I hit Ecco.  It's a nice break at our age.  In March, 2022, we'll stop in St Aug with the granddaughters and get them into town for a little history.  Might be the only way they get it nowadays.
