Does the ship circumvent Iceland in a counterclockwise direction? So it’s better to have a room on the starboard side? Thanks

According to the map on the website, it is a clockwise circumnavigation, which would be the starboard side. Having said that, I doubt it matters which side.

Actually, I believe our direction will be clockwise, which is why this voyage I choose starboard.

We stayed awake during the 5 hour and 10 minute flight. I’m glad we did because we were treated to a stunning sunrise over Greenland.

Crystal had two reps at the airport to greet us ❤️ They assisted us with our luggage, introduced us to our driver and we were off to Reykjavik.

Arrival into the country was very smooth as we were the only plane. Our bags were among the first off the ramp in baggage claim and we were through customs and passport control in less than 12 minutes.

Weather = a fine mist and about 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Having been awake for more than 24 hours, we were happy that we’d paid for the previous night and could immediately crash in our room. Staff at reception were warm and welcoming, I’m loving the Art Deco style in the lobby and our (large!)  bathroom has heated floors❤️. Haven’t experienced anything else yet. It’s 3:15 pm Reykjavik time, Timmy’s still sleeping and I’m just so delighted to be traveling again.

We have a 3 hour food tour scheduled for 5 pm, I’ll let you all know how it goes on the blog:

I'm hooked, traveling along with you! Tasty food, a black and white cat (won't hold it against him that he's on Instagram), and interesting street scenery (my DH would love that -- he is the amateur photographer between us too).

What more could I ask? Perhaps the kitty will become as famous as Pierre the Existential Cat. 🙂

I'm glad your flight and arrival went so smoothly.  We'll be coming from the SF Bay area via a Seattle layover of 5 hours on 7/23 , with a 6 AM arrival of course, so it will be a bit longer.  I hope I don't regret not renting a room the night before, especiallly with the Saga seats not being real business class.

What excursions are you signed up for?

We slept well, we’re off to breakfast and then a return visit to the Blue Lagoon. I’ll catch up with you all later❤️

As we walked off the elevator we  spied the Crystal representative, Kristin. She greeted us so warmly and offered to assist us in any way with our plans for the next two days. We received the welcome booklet with transfer, testing and boarding information. What a nice way to begin our day. Breakfast offerings are many and Timmy loves the bread

We were in Iceland on the Serenity in June 2019 and spent 3 days at the Hotel Borg post cruise. The rooms were well appointed.

Such a fun place. I look forward to following your adventure.

@krb1000when you’re exploring the ship could you please post pictures of the gym? We would like to know what equipment there is, particularly the weight training equipment. Many thanks in advance, wishing you a wonderful embarkation day.

The weather in Reykjavik is about what we expected:

There’s no bad weather…just bad clothing choices. Glad I have my puffy, hat and gloves😀 We are taking a helicopter to the Volcanic eruption later today.

Zero interest in the Gym photos from me 😂- but hanging out for shots of the public areas and the food - post away - you can’t post too many 📸

This might be the best…one hour later and my heart is still beating out of my chest…not an exaggeration…we are off to explore some more, but I had to share this…if you haven’t booked a flight over the volcano…give it some serious consideration

Oh and we had stopped by to visit Endeavor this morning

Our bags have been fetched for transport to the ship. The young man said the next time we see them, they will be in our cabin😀. We enjoyed breakfast and are now relaxing in our room until 10:45 when we’ll go down to the lobby for the 11:00 am shuttle to Grand Hotel.

Relaxing? Who am I kidding? I said to Tim that I feel like a balloon on a string…he has to keep pulling me back to earth. So freaking excited ❤️

I’ve uploaded 18 seconds of volcano video to the blog

Posted (edited)

I was at Fagradalsfjall until 2am today. Hike no. 37 to the volcano since March 20. Things started to escalate dramatically after 4 pm yesterday so the evening was unbelievable. I miss the dark nights though and the combination of the eruption and the northern lights. Like this photo that I captured on March 31.
