Lanyards for Sea Pass-- the are probably no longer needed, right?

Do you use the app on your phone to purchase items on the ship?  I haven't been on a cruise since 2015.  Your sea pass is now on the phone now, correct?  How about to open your cabin?

The phone app does act as a replacement for some of the SeaPass, but the SeaPass is still needed. You just may pull it out less often. 🙂

used SeaPass onboard Adventure last month for buying drinks, other purchases, entering/leaving buffet, entering shows that required a reservation.  Used the app for making reservations to shows and dinners and checking the ship daily activities.

Only the newer ships have the ability to unlock doors with phone or WOW bands

Oasis has the new system that works with WOW bands.  I can't recall if phones worked last year to open the cabin door on Oasis or Symphony but that could be because I didn't try it since I don't carry my phone if I can help it onboard.

I have no problems using new technology on the ship. Personally, I think it’s great and I’m really happy with RC for making their app better and more useful.  I use the camera frequently on my phone, so I don’t see it as a hassle at all to carry my phone. I’m also a big fan of Wow bands - loved them on our Anthem cruises.

Change is good.

Thanks for this information.  Appreciate it!  I don't think we used lanyards either although thought about getting them for this cruise.  I think we carried in our bag/wallet.

Going on Odyssey this August.  Thanks again.

My DH is visually impaired, if they do away with the sea pass it will be differcult

for him to get in and out of the cabin. He does not carry a smart phone and we are

not attached at the hip. People sometimes forget not everyone is able to use a smart

phone. It's bad enough that parents do not explain or tell their children not walk directly infront

of a person with a visual cane. (lets each them to say excuse me).  God forbid everyone

is a snow flake and can't be re-proofed.  Sorry I'm done.

DW and I have never used a lanyard in 30 yrs. If you can carry a phone you can carry a cruise card.

Your clothes probably have pockets.  Very few of mine do.

My DH's do and I wear a very small crossbody bag just barely large enough to carry my iPhone and SeaPass card.

I use a lanyard because most of my slacks and dresses do not have pockets and I have no desire to carry a purse while cruising (for me that is a leave at home item when I cruise).    I don't carry a phone while on a ship unless I take my small backpack with my book and sunscreen to the pool or sundeck.

That's not the point. OP plans on carrying a phone. If you can carry a phone a cruise card is even easier to carry so no need for the lanyard.  I have pockets in every pair of pants and on my bathing suit so I don't need a lanyard ever. We are never without ours phones as we use them for pictures and the Royal App.

Having a phone is sadly becoming a necessity.  Based on the June Adventure sailings, you needed your phone for making reservations and all the restaurants and bars has QR codes for the menus.  You still could request a hard copy menu, but they are definitely trying to get rid of paper.

I am also pretty sure on the 6/12 Adventure sailing you had to request a paper copy of the Ship Times thing that gave you the day's itinerary (cant remember the actual name), but by the 6/19 sailing they had gone back to putting a paper copy in your room each night, so there must have been some pushback.

I do have a crossbody case and have used that to go to casino (put all my winnings in it - LOL!).

I've never had a problem carrying all of my winnings, but I keep hoping! Hahah

Yes, it is sad that we have to use our phones in this manner.

You are referring to the Compass.    I was happy when I heard they began the paper copies again.   I like to mark my up with a highlighter for things of interest.
