Carnival adds new smoke-free casino to the Breeze, Magic and Dream

Wow, Carnival was really doing work to improve the ships during shutdown. They made quite a few changes and managed to keep them secret. First, they removed the Casino Bar for the Vista-class ships. Now they've added a new smoke-free casino on the Dream-class ships. It replaces the old conference rooms. I like it as an option because it still gives people the ability to smoke and gamble if they like, but for those who don't like a smoky atmosphere, they can go to a separate venue.

I'm torn on these changes. On paper, it's pretty hard to be mad at a smokeless option. However, changes don't always go as good as they sound on paper. Personally, the casino bar is my favorite part of the casino. I would likely visit the Vista Casino even less now without it. I would also wager to say the smokeless casinos on the Dream class would probably be not as fun and lively. For as much complaining there is about the smoke, I am curious to see just how much of a market there really is.

Frankly, I would have preferred if they did the opposite: put the smoking casino in a sealed off room, and made the main walk-through casino smoke free.

But I'm not a gambler, so I'll just avoid both, though walking through the main casino is still a probable path for convenience and I'll just put up with the smoke.

Yeah, the removal of the bar seems to be universally panned. I can't believe a bar did worse money making-wise than a few slot machines.

I fully agree.
That smokey casino stinks up that end of the Promenade Deck.

I like the idea of a sealed and self-contained Smoking Hot Casino
where the pollution will be concentrated upon the smokers
who created the condition: they'd love it!

It almost seemed the casino bars were the “hang out” spot after midnight for a lot of people ..especially since they closed late.  I wonder what people will do now on the Vista class ships.  I think the Piano Bar stays open till 1:00, but people may not want to go there to have a conversation/relax.

NCL did just that on their Newest Breakaway plus ships.

I'd like to see no smoking at the bar. Especially on the Dream. There is no sports bar. There is no pub. The casino bar is the sports bar. I remember just trying to watch a football game there and just having smoke flowing directly into my face.

I don't smoke anymore but I vape. It's much cleaner and doesn't smell bad and it smells enjoyable to SOME people around me. I would like a bar where I can go sit and vape / smoke and enjoy the air conditioning, out of the sun, out of the wind and have a drink and conversation. I am sure there are plenty like myself who would like that. I don't really gamble but I am glad the smoke free casino is out of the way and the casino where you can smoke is convenient.

Do not remember about all the Carnival ships we have been on. I do remember they only allowed smoking at one end of the bar. At that end they had suction fan smoke filters that helped, but not eliminated the smoke.

Yes! The wife and I enjoyed taking the Inspiration and Imagination from Long Beach every month or so for their 3 or 4 day cruises. These were older Fantasy class ships and you're right, after dinner the casino bar on those ships were always packed. They generally had the house band playing right there as well.

I don't know if there's a rule like that but if there had been more than one seat available I would've moved for sure. When football is on and there's only one place to watch the game, it gets crowded.

I'm with you.  We don't gamble.  My wife has asthma and walking through that area is terrible.  Never understood why the main pathway from front to back of the ship is the main interior area for smoking.   One thing I do like about the Dream class is the ability to use deck four to by-pass the smoke from the casino.

There's supposed to be an announcement on the Mardi Gras casino soon. Given that part of it overlooks the atrium, I'm hoping the port side will be smoke free, as that should cut down on smoke in the atrium.

I vape too! Smoked cigarettes since I was 13 and vaping helped me quit when I was 36 (10 years now). Personally I love the smell of a burning cigarette (still addicted to the smell) but this is a wonderful win win for everyone! They should have done this on the Vista class ships as well!

Yes, I saw that on Mardi Gras.

I wish they wouldn’t have removed the bar from the Vista class Casinos. It would have been nice to have the change like the Dream class ships instead but perhaps it is due to the design of the casinos on the Vista class ships? Couldn’t they have just made the bar area itself non-smoking as in if you sit or stand at the bar you can’t light up?
