Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday!!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. Praying for those on the Care list.

I read the Daily yesterday but didn’t post. DM had a hair appointment (I’m taking her to most of her appointments now) and then we went to lunch at Outback, her favorite restaurant. The Kim Crawford was wonderful!  She got really tired so I know she has a few more weeks of recovery.

When I was searching for pictures of Sitka I couldn’t find any on the hard drive and it turns out Craig had never downloaded them. So last night he was able to get that done. He has much better pictures than I do of that cruise.

@kazu So glad that storm bypassed you. Also, it was so good to see the Bon Voyage thread this morning!  Yay!  ⛴

I haven’t been to Bonaire yet but the ABC islands are on my list, although I have been to Curaçao which is beautiful.  Thanks to everyone who posted pictures.

Have a great day everyone!

We love the Outback.

We are starting to harvest our chili peppers here.  Last night I made fresh salsa and we enjoyed Margaritas.  Which leads me to the drink of the day.  Tequila is definitely not my friend anymore.  (As they say, two times shame on you, three times shame on me.)  Anyhoo, when your crop comes in, please share a bit about what you do with them.

Tequila is not my friend either!  I discovered this on our Panama Canal cruise in 2000.

When I harvest my chilies 🌶 I roast them, skin them and then freeze them, sometimes I don’t bother to take the skins off though. I use roasted chilies in a lot of things ~ enchiladas, tacos, eggs.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. I like  peach ice cream although hard to find. Emojis 👻 are amusing. I had never heard of yellow pig day.

Great quote.

The meal sounds intriguing. I like the drink and wine.

I haven't been to today's port. Thanks for the pictures.

It's another sunny warm day here. Our thunderstorm warnings haven't turned into much - just a little rain and thunder.

This morning my eye seemed irritated (but not light sensitive) so I've put in extra lubricating drops which has seemed to help. Off for a haircut this afternoon; it was scheduled later but I want to get it before eye surgery. I will still wear a mask. Being lazy today. Tomorrow I want to seal the grout on the new backsplash, then put everything back on the kitchen counters.

My Blink camera picked up something in the middle of the night. I assumed a neighbor's cat like before, until I looked at the video and it was a deer! While there are nearby wooded areas, I've never seen a deer in my yard in the 25 years I've lived here (doesn't mean there weren't any).

@mamaofami Good to hear that Sam's cognitive and speech skills are good.

@Crazy For Cats Happy Anniversary!

@grapau27 Wow, those pizzas were huge.

Prayers for the Care list and cheers for the Celebration list.

Stay safe everyone.

Tillamook makes a delicious "Peaches and Cream" ice cream. I have some waiting for me in the Westport condo freezer, but won't be back there until tomorrow evening.

Bonaire surprised us when we visited on the Zaandam in April of 2019. It was much drier than we expected and the cactus was plentiful. @Mtn2Sea Thanks for the pictures of Bonaire; especially the cactus by the sea and the cactus fence. They brought back good memories.

It is unclear why the day was called Yellow Pig Day or what a yellow pig has to do with the number 17, though legend has it that it is in reference to David Kelly's collection of yellow pigs. The mascot of the holiday, the yellow pig, has 17 toes, 17 eyelashes, and 17 teeth.

A Number With Special Properties

17 is a prime number that has significance in mathematics. It is the sum of the first four prime numbers - 2, 3, 5, and 7. A prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 and by itself. Several studies have shown that when people are asked to choose a number between 1 and 20, a majority of people choose the number 17.

17 is not always a special number. In Italy, for example, 17 is considered to an unlucky

How to Celebrate?
  • Gift the mathematicians in your life marzipan Yellow Pig candies or yellow pig plush toys.
  • Do 17 acts of kindness during the day.
  • Sing Yellow Pig carols.

Thanks  for  the  info. I  will  try  to  impress  children  with  the  17 specialness and  will start  singing  pig  carols  too!

When we are in that part of the country, we buy Tillamook ice cream.  I'm not sure if I've had their peaches and cream flavor, but I'll look for it next time.

I am really hoping mine come up in spurts (how I planted them so DH has a fresh supply.  he likes them raw and when I tried freezing some last year, raw he said they had lost a lot of their “bite”.

Maybe I will try roasting if I have too many for him to eat.  At least he could add them into his food even though they wouldn’t be raw.  thanks for the idea 👍

Maxine, sometimes it helps to chop them up before freezing also, that way you can just 'whack' off the frozen block what you need for your recipe.  Enjoy!

Good morning Damers!

A lot done so far, I got over to Lowe's at 630 and grabbed two of the 3 smaller sized window AC units, so I'm ready for the installation at the end of the month.  No HOT HOT weather predicted between now and then thankfully.  After that I grabbed a Venti Iced Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks, I'm full blooded Italian what can I say, it's actually on the small side by my standards.  And speaking of Italian, I'll take a plate of the Gnocchi....or two, with meatballs!  The Peach ice cream sounds delicious and I think I actually had it once or twice on HAL.

World emoji day?  Okay: 😁🤢🙏👀👍😲🤣😞🤔 🙂

Those are my most commonly used

@rafinmd  Hope you are not in too much pain with tooth

@kazu Did the storms come and go?  I looked last evening and they either had already passed or hadn't yet arrived.

@dfish with everything you accomplished this week, I think a lazy day is well deserved.

@mamaofami Great news on not needing speech therapy, one less specialist you have to deal with.  Glad you are okay, we were worried in yesterday's daily.  I'm with you on gas tanks, I fill up as soon as I use 1/4 tank, never know when we might be hit with a sudden shortage.

@StLouisCruisers We didn't get a drop either, our 30+ days without rain streak continues 😞

@grapau27 did you have leftovers?  those pizzas are ginormous!!!

Today will be slightly warmer, the sun did not make an appearance yesterday and I don't think it got above 70.  I have to put together a new tv stand this afternoon and take Dad to church later which I'm not looking forward to because of all the construction, it's going to take almost an hour to get there, normally it's 25 minutes.

Have a great day everyone!

We ate all our pizza's.👍😋

My grandmother was Italian from Venice.

Mine usually come up in spurts and I find that I can leave them on the plant for quite some time if I'm not ready for them.  Those turn red, which I love.  Funny thing, I never took all of them off before our freezes and they just dried up, so now I have a nice bag of dried chilies to use too.

Roasting really changes the taste when you freeze them, I've never frozen them raw.  In fact, in season, at the grocery stores you can find roasted chilies, sometimes freshly frozen Hatch green chilies.  They roast them outside the store and bag them up and keep them at check out.  Yum!

Thanks.  Mine usually come up in spurts too.  Last year I was harvesting for a month and a half.  Hoping that happens again and I did start some earlier than others in the hopes of spurts.

I’ll leave it up to DH what he would like me to do with the surplus.  It will be his choice.  They are his chilies.  I’d pickle but he’s not keen on pickled chilies.  Maybe he will change his tune this year 😉

First, I need chilies to harvest 🤞 They seemed slow this year but now I see significant progress 🤞

Good morning from central Texas where it is partly cloudy and breezy.  A friend and I used to call the weathermen, the Infamous They, and they are predicting rain from Monday afternoon through Thursday, but the precentage is never higher than 50%.  Also, they predicted rain a few days this past week, but no rain since last week.  I think today's predicted chance of rain is probably accurate -- 1%.

I can celebrate all the days, but I did have to look up Yellow Pig Day, and found the same information @Seasick Sailor Joy did. My next comments are not meant to spark another debate on the best ice cream, as each region of the US and Canada have their own favorites. I like peach ice cream,  but my favorite is Blue Bell homemade vanilla and peach.  It's like a bowl of vanilla with peaches added.  They also have a strawberry version which is not as sweet as strawberry ice cream.  The strawberry version is available year round, but the peach is only offered in the spring.  I also like the emojis and use them sometimes.

We will pass on the meal as we are not overly fond of gnocchi.  The drink sounds good as does the wine, which is a little pricey.

@mamaofami  Carol, I'm glad the speech theraphist confirmed what you knew and that Sam does not need her help.  The outing sounds nice too.

@kazu  Glad your garden was spared.  It is too bad that the Infamous They can not give much advanced notice about thunderstorms and tornados, but they often pop up too quickly.  I like the advice about kneeling in the garden since my kneeling and rising are anything but graceful.  When possiable, I just bend over to pull weeds, etc., but then the wrong end is pointing up.  🤣

@grapau27  Wow!  Graham those pizzas are huge and I hope they were as good as they look.  One of them would have made two meals for us if we stuck to our usual two slices each.

@ger_77 Gerry, it is sad what is happening to so many farmers crops due to lack of rain or to the fires.

@kplady  Laura, safe travels and enjoy your time at the lake.

We have been to Bonaire once in 2000 on the P&O Oriana world cruise.  At that time, only DH had a digital camera, and took a few pictures.  We rented a car and drove around the island,\; then walked around town.  All the pictures are from our drive.

These were some of the former slave cottages in 2000 before any were restored.

Finally, last year on the Rotterdam Panama Canal cruise,  we completed seeing the ABC Islands with two visits to Curacao.

Lenda

Our pizza's were romano thin based and gorgeous.

Both of our plates were empty after we ate the lot.😃

Good morning and thanks all!  Well peach gelato is my absolute favourite,  oh to be back in Italy!

Unfortunately although we enjoyed Bonaire, but some of our earlier photos are in digital limbo!    Enjoying everyone’s photos!

@kazu, loving your hydrangeas,  are they hardy ones?   Enjoy the wag you, hope you do get to Japan, both were incredible.

the sun looks very eerie!

And a very nice Saturday to all on the Daily , after an all night rain the sun is out in SW Ontario and hopefully all the standing water we have collected will slowly disappear into the ground .

We have been a few times to Bonaire which is part of the Lesser  ( Leeward ) Antilles but now has a special status as a  municipality within the Kingdom of the Netherlands . Population of about 21.000 and the capital city is Kralendijk.

We have had the pleasure to go there a couple of times on one of the BHB’s and the last time was on Jan 19th 2018 while on the Koningsdam with our good friends Ann and Pat and good friends from the Netherlands .

Good Afternoon All, thanks for the daily report.  Yesterday I pulled out the suitcases from the attic.  When DH came home and saw them he asked me why they were out.  After I gave him a look he then realized that this is packing weekend for Alaska.  We also booked flights for December and March cruises, JetBlue dropped their cancellation fee so we felt comfortable booking them.  I think we will be going out for dinner today.  We got married 17 years ago.  At that time we had been together 10 years.  My how time does fly!

Wishing you both a lovely 17th Wedding anniversary.💞

Time does fly.

It will be our 40th wedding anniversary on August 22nd.

Thanks Graham. Cool to see Greta Green although I don’t think it’s the town the English couples escape to together so they can get married quickly. I read a lot of historical romance novels 🤪. You both seem to go somewhere great every day. We’re living vicariously through you right now.

Thanks.

We were at the famous Gretna Green today.

Couples who were too young and their parents wouldn't give them permission to marry in olden times would elope to Gretna Green to get married.

At least 1 of the couple had to live in Scotland for 14 days beforehand.

There was a couple getting married there today.

Graham.

The famous Blacksmiths shop was behind me in the third photo.
