Unvaccinated Passengers Review on Cruise Protocols

Recommended Posts

I am fully vaccinated in Canada but with a mixed regime (AZ/Pfizer) RC will not let me cruise unless I go as an unvaccinated passenger.  I'm trying to decide if I should cruise adhering to all the protocols or whether its not worth it.  I would like to hear from any unvaccinated passengers who has cruised so far and their experience with having to wear masks all the time (unless your eating or drinking), the designated seating areas in all venues (casino, theatre and dining areas).  The extra expensive of taking Antigen tests (pre, mid and end of cruise) at the cost of $178 each per person.

I love to cruise and I have really missed cruising over the last 16 months, we were to board the Celebrity Silhouette on March 15, 2020 and of course everyone knows the story.😟

Please share your experience, good, bad or indifferent.

Just so you know, everyone, whether vaccinated or not, is required to wear a mask indoors on Royal.

we are fully vaccinated (except for the kid), but we still wear masks indoors.

That said, since you are sailing in November, maybe, you have time to get vaccinated properly?

We are waiting for vaccines to be available for our 10 yo so he could be vaccinated prior to our cruise in November. We'll still probably mask in most indoor places on the cruise - with the Delta variant on the rise, we don't trust people much.

I was going to ask the same thing. The shots are the same for both doses, so I would think if you got a second AZ or Pfizer, that you would be considered single vendor fully vaccinated.

Certain venues are fine not to mask. On Adventure, no masks except unvaccinated kids

I believe the poster was referring to Royal cruises out of Florida...........

Really? What are you hearing? That the protocols are not being adhered to for the cruises out of Florida? Royal ships, out of Florida, have everyone masking up indoors where vaxxed and un-vaxxed passengers share the same space. Those are the cruises that are sailing with unlimited un-vaxxed passengers.

Those certain indoor venues where masking is not required are for VACCINATED people only.

I read a statement from Royal stating that some indoor venues would be designated for the vaccinated only and masks would not be required once inside, such as designated theater shows, casino, and some bars, even on cruises from Florida. Start watching the 'LIVE' review from Allure of the Seas leaving PC tomorrow, July 27, 2021 to find out!! Cheers!!

Lots of great info will be learned on Allure's test cruise tomorrow (July 27th)!! Happy cruising friends!! Cheers!!

For Cruises Departing from U.S. Ports

The U.S. CDC advises that a vaccine series should be completed with products from the same manufacturer, as the safety of a mixed-product series has not been fully evaluated. However, Royal Caribbean will accommodate guests who are vaccinated with mixed mRNA vaccines, such as 1 shot of Pfizer and 1 shot of Moderna. The doses must be separated by at least 28 days and not more than 42 days.

We do not accept 1 shot of an mRNA vaccine (e.g., Pfizer or Moderna) mixed with 1 shot of a viral vector vaccine (e.g., AstraZeneca).

Mixed vaccines may not be accepted at all ports of call. Guests who are vaccinated with a mixed series may need to undergo additional testing at embarkation if they wish to go ashore in these ports.

I’m booked on freedom and wish I would of booked with Carnival as Royal has no limit on the amount of unvaccinated passengers or at least that’s what I’m reading.

You can cancel and get a full refund and then book with Carnival.  If you are unhappy with your decision to cruise with Royal I can't imagine any other decision.

We feel the same way. Have no intentions of doing the mask thing. We have the vision out of San Juan booked for Oct. Have serious doubts it will actually sail but Lord knows Royal isn't gonna tell us. So today we bit the bullet and booked the Mardi Gras for the same week. Royal is our favorite line and San Juan is our favorite departure port but between it being doubtful that vision will actually sail, Royals stance on requiring vaccines, being a port intensive itinerary with undoubtedly lots of different local protocols etc (or even itinerary changes), being able to drive instead of fly, and most of all the face diapers we are at ease with our decision. We will wait it out for the125% if Royal cancels or cancel under CWC if by chance it does go

Im vaccinated but respect people decisions not to. But if I wasnt vaccinated at this point I would never jump through all of the hoops and then restrictions on the ship. Plus pay for 2-3 covid tests each person. It would be a hard no if I wasnt vaccinated. Even vaccinated this was a tough decision for us. Im tired of wearing a mask. Rules are sensless. Wear a mask unless your eating when you really have a possibility to spread the virus. Just senseless but whatever. We decided we spend almost all our time outside or in a bar drinking. So the mask wont be on me for the most part.

Not true according to Royal’s protocol document from July 21st. Vaccinated guests visiting venues that have been designated as “vaccine only” can go maskless. That would appear to include certain gym hours, certain shows and the casino.

I should have clarified. In most areas of the ships, except those for vaccinated only passengers, everyone must mask.

Non refundable deposit although I can move it to another date without penalty.
I love Royal just wish they were doing what Carnival is doing although who knows how long any of the lines will be doing what they are doing now.

I’m sucking it up and going at this point.

They are offering full refunds to anyone who isn't happy with restrictions once they have been released.

Not sure where you see that . Can you provide the info because all I see is the offer to move date one time without penalty on non refundable deposits .

I just booked two weeks ago and restrictions were already in place. My fault for not looking into it more thoroughly

Perhaps I'm just confused, but isn't AZ a one dose shot like the J & J. Know it hasn't been approved by US, but don't the regulations state that if it's approved by the WHO it is okay to cruise.

So for the debate about masking and not masking on Royal ships... it varies.... if sailing out of Nassau..everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated must be..so ..at least today...no masks indoors... for other sailings... masks required in public areas..unless it is an area designated for vaccinated... This link will provide current info for various ships https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/are-there-any-experiences-that-are-closed

A lot of questions can be easily answered by just looking at the Royal website. If you don't have children and want to go maskless...consider Carnival, Celebrity as alternatives...

Oh and all this could change later today..depending upon how strict CDC has decided to be regarding vaccinated going back to masks...despite their efforts to tell us the vaccine works.

AZ is a viral vector vax like JJ, but it is a two dose vaccines while JJ is one and done.
