Yard work doesn't help but I have a back ache nearly every day.  Just a lot more bothersome today.

Not sure if it is available in the U.S. or not, but I find Robaxacet works wonders along with my patches when needed.

Your pictures are fabulous.  Thank you so much for taking the time to share them with us.  What a wondrous experience you had! 👍

Good morning/afternoon Graham!  I took some Tylenol a while ago and using throw pillows at the lumbar region and the back feels better already.  I have back aches nearly every day.

My cough is still with me.  I've been told to try a weaker acid reflux medication so it doesn't cause my stomach so much distress.  My stomach is fine but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with my cough.  I think nasal drainage is the culprit but my antihistamine isn't helping any either.  We may end up doing the laryngoscopy to take a look in the throat.

DMIL has a bed with rails at the head of the bed but of course not all the way to the foot of the bed.  When she gets agitated she squirms around until she falls out the lower half of the bed.  They are not allowed to restrain her.  And unless someone is with her every second they can't always prevent her falling out.  Sometimes they give her a light sedative to calm her and help her to rest.  July 2021 is 3 years since her car accident which started the whole hospitalization/rehab/nursing home thing.  It's been a rough time for everyone involved.🙁

Pleased your back is better.

I have arthritis in both knees and hips and can't take anti inflammatory tablets with my heart medication so I can understand your pain every day.

I hope the doctors can find a solution for your cough which is easily sorted

Best wishes for your mother in law and all of you who care for her.

Graham.

Good morning Dailylites!

It is so refreshing to come here every morning and get a dose of goodwill.  Thank you to all who contribute.  Cheers to the celebratory list and hugs to the care list.

We docked in Aqaba on December 17, 2011, on the Brilliance OTS.  We took a ship tour to Petra.  Most of our pictures would be duplicates, but hopefully what I share won't be.

Thanks for your advice.  I shouldn't complain about my back aches since so many others have it much worse than I.  Like my Dad.  I just wake up with a back ache a lot, especially after extra bending over, and changing mattresses didn't help either.  I always blamed it on our very firm mattress, so got one with more cushioning and that didn't help either!

I really enjoyed Petra even though it was miserably hot.  Sometimes you just have to put up with heat to see these amazing locales.

On Oct. 10, 2016 our private tour group drove 2 hours from Aqaba past the Wadi Rum desert wilderness area and arrived at Petra, one of the new seven wonders of the world.  We arrived by 9 am which is a good thing since this is a very hot, dry area and it only gets hotter as the day goes on. 00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJ65ADl4H-3ksk_OZz933YR?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium

Many thanks to @StLouisCruisers and @kb4683 for sharing their pictures.   Those rock formations are out of this world.  I have a feeling this thread could get expensive as I now have another entry to the bucket list.  I have to go and walk between those rock walls.  They are truly amazing.

Sandi, I get up with back pain every morning.   I gave up on medication as it isn't always effective.  I think the morning pain is from laying flat for so long each night.  Getting up and moving helps me the most.  Of course, the pool is my best friend for my back issues.

👍Rich @richwmn thank you for The Daily and Roy @rafinmd for the two lists...Care and Celebration. 😊 Your photos Sandi @StLouisCruisers are fabulous/ what a comprehensive tour!

I'm following Lisa's @LAFFNVEGAS cruise adventures, too, as well as @cat shepard account of her encounters in Iceland. My ER "visit" (not actual complicated surgery) was 14K ...thank goodness for Medicare and Kaiser's Senior Advantage.

My experience up close with a bagpiper was in Dunedin..city known as the Edinburgh of NZ.

🙏Prayers to all in need. We will have new mandates for state employees in California due to the rise of Covid cases. 😷

Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Thank you to all who fought in the Korean War.  I'd love to be on the other side of the Atlantic right now to be able to make a call, wouldn't you?  I like listening to bagpipes, especially in marching bands.

In elementary school we had to try walking on stilts during one PE class.  I managed to get a couple of steps in before I bailed, but the class clown figured he could try using them as pogo sticks - resulting in a face plant on the floor and the loss of his 2 front teeth.  I'm sure today his parents would have likely sued the school and teacher beyond belief, but that was a different time and he came back toothless for a while until  a partial plate was made for him.

@kazu I'm sorry to hear the smoke has made it's way to you, but fair's fair - now it's your turn to give us some of your rain.

@StLouisCruisers love your photos - thanks for sharing them - were you on a ship tour?  Sorry to hear about your DMIL's fall - that can be disconcerting when you get a call like that.

Another hot and muggy day here on the "frozen tundra" with our high expected to reach 35C (95F), and the humidity is at 78% when normally we're sitting around the 45 mark.  I'm going to head outside to water all the plants, then come in, close up all the windows and turn on the a/c for the day.

I really like today's menu suggestion, but have some ground beef thawing in the fridge which will be made into tacos tonight.  I'm pretty sure we've got some tater tots in the freezer that can be tossed into the air fryer for a dinner that will replicate Taco Tuesday at Taco Time.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Extra thanks for everyone on this thread who comes here and brightens the days of others, rather than becoming petty and ugly.  Raising the glasses tonight to toast all on the happy list.  Stay safe, be well, wash your hands, wear your masks when you need to, and hydrate!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry

Thank you for your response Gerry.  You asked if I was on a ship's tour.  No, it was with a group from the CC roll call.  I checked back and the tour was through Via Jordan, our guide was Zayed.  He was terrific!

We were able to spend the day visiting Petra while on our 2019 Amsterdam cruise.  Our visit was part of a 6 day overland trip that covered Jordan’s top sites.  Our last two nights were at the Movenpick Hotel, which is located just steps away from the ticket office and entrance to this marvelous historical site.  Like most people, we chose to walk through the Sig to get to the treasury and then continued to walk (after a rest) until we reached the restaurant where we had lunch.  When we got back to the treasury, we were able to hire a driver and cart to get back through the Sig and to the entrance.  A lot of walking on a somewhat hot day, but well worth it!

Good morning all!

Lots of interesting days -- and the meal sounds scrumptious.

Thank you to @StLouisCruisers, @kb4683, and @Mtn2Sea for the fabulous photos!  We've never been to this port, so I really enjoyed seeing the photos.  I can't believe how much walking you did in that heat!  It's a place I would love to see, not sure about that oppressive heat though...so thank you again for "taking us there" with your photos.

@StLouisCruisersI'm sorry you deal with daily back pain.  I don't have it often, but when I do, I too swear by the brace recommended by @AncientWanderer.

After having the grandsons here all weekend my back was hurting a bit yesterday -- just because I was doing things I don't normally do 😉  Oh my those boys are active.  But it may be a few weeks before we see them again, so I'm not complaining.

We've been enjoying lovely warm but not hot weather (could use some rain though!) and it will heat up to the low 80's the end of this week.  DH and I agreed it would be a good time to try out the portable A/C unit we put in upstairs.

Yesterday we made final payment on our Sept. cruise.  Between that and reading Lisa's blog, I'm ready to start packing, cannot wait!

Good morning everyone and Happy Tuesday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. Interesting collection of days. My father was a Korean vet.

I love today’s recipe Debbie @dfish and might make it with white meat instead. Today I’m thinking about making stuffed peppers 🫑.

We had sad news yesterday about an old friend we haven’t seen in years. He passed away from covid complications.  He was only 71. He had been hospitalized after Christmas with covid and had been in and out of the hospital since and never recovered. Not sure if we will go to the services since we haven’t seen them in so long (At least 30 years). But I recently reconnected with their daughter on FB.

I thought I’d leave you with a few pictures of last nights sail away from Juneau.

Very sad news about your old friend dying.  It brings thoughts of your own mortality when your friends start to go.  It's happening way too often nowadays.

Thank you for the photos of the Nieuw Amsterdam leaving Juneau.  What a bright star she was!!

Great!  I hope you get there soon, too.  And if you decide to take a cart ride on your visit, hang on tight!  Some of the ones I saw moved very fast!

Thanks for the Daily everyone.

Always enjoy a bit of bagpipe music.

The pictures today are wonderful.  This is a part of the world I've not visited so am enjoying.

Those carts definitely look speedy and a bit dangerous if you are walking.

Prayers to all those on the care list and those who need them.  Best wishes to all.

Only 9:30 here, and The Daily is already on page 3!  Thanks to everyone for all the posts, and the fabulous photos.  I think visiting Petra vicariously will be enough for me, I can almost feel the heat emanating from the pictures!  I am not good in the heat, even though I have lived in hot places, Manila, Barranquilla, Nairobi, even Falls Church, Virginia was too hot for me.

Normally, The Daily is my first "port of call" on the internet, but I must admit I've been checking out Lisa's Live From first recently.    I think I did see a couple of snide remarks on the thread, but perhaps they are being removed by the mods.  Which is a good thing!

Tonight will be left over halibut and broccoli casserole from two nights ago...  and I hope not to hear any complaints.  If we're not on a cruise, he doesn't get to choose.  We drank all our home made wine, so we are now drinking from The Box.  Which is alright for me, as I can say, just give me a little less wine and add more ice.

Hope everyone has a great day, and take care of your backs!

Like many of us, I have been enjoying @LAFFNVEGAS's live thread from Alaska. I do hope she takes time to enjoy the cruise instead of tracking down answers to everyone's questions!

Her thread, and a couple others about paper menus, Navigator app, and maybe needing cell phones onboard inspired me to download and explore the new Navigator app. And I found something interesting that perhaps others have noticed.

We don't cruise until late November so many menus and such can't be accessed yet. However, the wine list (from James Suckling - the one usually on the table in the MDR) was "live". It is very similar to the one Roger Jett posted from 2019 (https://rogerjett-photography.com/here/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Wine-List.pdf).

The remarkable difference is that most wine-by-the-glass prices have dropped significantly putting many more wines into the Signature Beverage Package $11 window.

On the 2019 list, I counted 13 wines at $11 or less and and additional 10 that were between $11 and $15 (thus part of the Elite BP).

On the current wine list (2021 Wine List.pdf) on the Navigator app, there are 26 wines at $11 or less and another 6 between $11 and $15.

Many of the wines on both lists are the same so you may want to take a close look before upgrading the SBP to the EBP just for the wines. The upgrade is (I think) $5 per person per day which isn't much and might still be worthwhile if you want access to some higher end scotch, cognac, port, and such.

Thanks to everyone who posted pictures of today’s port. Absolutely gorgeous. I’m assuming that you can’t go inside the Treasury. The rock formations are amazing.

Ann @cat shepard ~ only you could be so positive after breaking a knee cap!

Thank you all for the condolences for our friend. He was too young. Covid is horrible!

Fred @Overhead Fred thank you for sharing the info about the wines. Our cruise is in October and was thinking of upgrading to the Elite package but looks like we won’t need to.

Have a great day everyone!
