Anyone else reevaluating?

Recommended Posts

I have an 11/2021 and a 2/2022 booked.

I read feedback from passengers who have sailed...and based on what they've said, I'm not too sure if I want to sail until Covid is a thing of the past.  One thing, masks required in ports....nope, not for me.

Yesterday I had "a scratchy throat" so I immediatly had a (negative) covid test.  As a rule, I am not a germophobe or a hypochondriac.  But, this uncertaintly of what's gonna happen or what the rules will be at the time of the cruise.....is cruising worth the worry?  Truth be told....I don't even look at cruising as the fun it used to be.  Based on the price increase it's not "the almost giveaway" vacation anymore.

I think for me personally it will be worth the stress by mid-2023. (had other things planned in 2022 beforehand).

However- even before this I had gotten sick on my last 2 cruises in 2018, one from UBP+lack of sleep one from temperature changes and perhaps eating at a table with some solos who had colds.

I’m quite looking forward to cruising, September 5th Barcelona, I believe masks would be a benefit with the tourist scramble that always awaits us at the port gates!

im looking at it another way, we haven’t really had a summer holiday since leaving the Joy on March 1st 2020, we are not bothered about two of the Italian stops so will rest, sunbathe and read whilst the ship is quiet….

I'm probably not supposed to say this but have you considered the notion that until well people stop getting tested, that this will not change?

My wife and I have a 10 day Oceania cruise booked for January 2022. Final payment in October. Not sure if I like the idea of possibly testing positive at the pier and not being allowed on a flight back to PA. Throwing around the idea of driving, not that I cherish the idea of driving 1200 miles each way. If mask are required on the ship as of final payment will just cancel. Might look at booking the Gem out of NYC. At least we can easily drive to the port

The mask thing is THE real deal killer for me.  I was on a bus for 7 hours on Saturday, masked, and I think that's wear my "scratchy throat" came from.  I feel like I'm gagging when I try to talk, and then there's "the glasses fog".

I live right by the NYC port (can walk there)....but when I factor in "the price increases"....for what I'm spending compared to what I used to pay,  I can have just as much fun if I stay home.

What I think I will do is "cancel" now....and rebook right before the cruise.  If the prices go down, losing my 10% discount won't be such a "big deal".  And if they don't....I'll lower my casino budget.

Needing to wear mask when in ports won't bother us.  We are already doing this in Canada while outdoor with others, and certainly indoor shopping.  There are not that many anti-maskers or anti-vaxxers in Canada.

My family are all fully vaccinated.  We look forward to a driving vacation next month, and cruising 2021/22, and 2022/1.

I am supposed to return to NYC for some concerts in 4 weeks hopefully but will wear masks on the train going there and the events- if they happen. My return cruise will probably be my normal NYC to Bermuda vs. flying to Seattle and doing Alaska. However, they closed our bus station so I'll likely just do Amtrak or NJ Transiit and take a longer uber.

Like many other cruisers I "reevaluated" quite a few months ago and decided not to book anything in the near future.  Not worth the hassle, worry or possible financial loss.  I still have quite a few good years left in me.  I'll bide my time.   Plenty of other adventures out there.    🙂

If masks are the deal breaker I think reevaluating is required. I only book last minute, so I still have my eyes on a last minute Alaska sailing on the Encore, BUT... with the positive case found on Celebrity in Juneau, it looks like Alaska is now requiring masks in port. Things remain very fluid.

I have nothing booked for 2021.  Too many unknowns and  "what-ifs".  For me, the Delta variant of COVID has complicated things even further.  No thanks.  Once I see 2-3 solid months of cruises take place without significant issues, maybe I will re-consider.

I don't blame you for reconsidering.

Was booked for Sept. 26th Breakaway out of NYC to Bermuda...just finished reevaluating and decided not to push our luck and cancelled last week just before final payment due. I am at the point now where I will wait things out longer. Definitely won't book anything else in 2021 until I see what happens. If things can get back up and running somewhat smoothly then maybe something in first quarter of 2022. Sadly though the Variant (Along with future variants still to come) may make everything moot. The collective lack of intelligence with regards to people (not) getting vaccinated is doing nothing but making this worse. 😷

Totally reevaluated.  And the situation of course continues to change almost daily, and not for the good.  I'm just not going to invest in the planning and anxiety associated with a cruise right now.  And masks on board are a deal breaker for me anyhow.  I'm going to wait, impatiently, for the cruises to resume, get the reports from them, and when...or if...this all goes away and cruises are as relaxed as they used to be...or close to it...then I'll just look for last minute bookings.  Not happy about this, but that's the way it is.  For now I'm trying to get cruises out of my mind....not working though.

In reevaluation mode for our January cruise as well, even though we're double vaccinated. Final payment is due mid-September, but if the border is still closed to Canadians by then I think we'll cancel. After 18 months of this, it would be foolish to expect things to change in another four months.

I don't understand running to get a covid test at the first sign of anything....

Currently have 2 cruises in the next 6 weeks...ready to go.

It's called "peace of mind".  I wasn't worried about me getting sick and dying....but the guilt of spreading it to friends/family if I knew I had the symptoms (sore throat and cough) and didn't bother to confirm that it wasn't covid.

FYI...it costs $0, a one minute walk from my apt..... and results are in less than an hour.  Getting tested couldn't be easier.

It's those who don't bother getting tested or refusing vaccines that are the ones to worry about!

After being cancelled on and rebooked NINE TIMES on three different cruise lines, I'm just ready to get on the ship... I'm hoping and praying that my Virgin Voyages cruise in October is a go...

I am ready. I wear a mask at work every day I can wear one at ports. I wore a mask when we went to Las Vegas in April. It wasn’t as fun as it could have been but it was fine. I have so much leave I need to use up. I have decided I can make my next cruises work
