I believe it mainly refers to those from The HAL ship, Nieuw Amsterdam who were onboard the float plane that crashed and the remaining families and passengers onboard who will now have a very sad remaining voyage. Most of us here on this board have been here a long time, have become friends, have been following the "Live From" threads from the ship and are just sharing our feelings.

I, too, was wondering to which tragedy OP was referring.  Hard to pray for people when you don't know for whom.
