ship sponsored tour required or not for Cozumel?

You cannot get off the ship unless you have a ship booked tour in which you're escorted as a group by X employees.

Not wure the policies of X but I was at Cozumel recently on a RCCL cruise. Cozumel requires a mask but the ship required passengers travelling with unvaccinated people in their party to take shore sponsored excursions. This was a fully vac cruise so it only pertained to people with children. The shopping area by the ship is open but the merchants are so hungry for sales they are quite persistent and it was annoying after a short while. Senor Frogs was open and hopping. Enjoy!

The difference in rules for the same parent corporation is quite perplexing.

As I explained earlier, per Capt Kate, X went 95% vaxed didn't do test cruises, RCL (and CCL) did.  They are two vastly different passenger age medians, lots of kids on RCL and hardly any on a typical X cruise.  No idea how much of a factor being first to restart had on this decision but X was the first big cruise line restart with Millie out of SXM and the Edge was the first to restart out of the US which wouldn't have happened had they elected to do test cruises.  There have been some other big line sailings out of Europe and Singapore since last summer yet they were only open to locals only.

And that's exactly why it's perplexing.  Test cruises are irrelevant to the situation except that they allow for more unvaccinated people.

Royal = ship with more kids = more unvaccinated = allowed on self-excursions = nonsensical

You are going to love that cruise it was one of our favorites.  Make sure you get the multi mansion pass and do it on your own.   Great town to do by yourself

Bo --   I started getting e-mails from Celebrity with updates on mask requirements just after final payment.   I've been getting them about 2X a week and they update port requirements.

Current restrictions ass of August 16 are on this link -

How far out is your cruise, Jim?

Nothing from X since my recent final pmt for a Nov on the Reflection.   Obviously a LOT can change between now and then.

Bo - don't forget the overnights in Bermuda!

We're on the same sailing and I look forward to meeting you. Always wonderful to finally meet someone who contributes so much to the CC boards. K

OP - apologies for the brief hijack of your thread.

mk - not to worry about hijacking... I rather enjoy it as a bit of a diversion from time to time on topics not so intense or urgent...

I welcome the opportunity to meet you as well....

bon voyage

Ifusion is understandable, especially without an explanation.

Thank you.  Cozumel is not locally restricted, and on Celebrity's site, this is stated:

IT CHANGED AGAIN THIS MORNING:
(only Costa Maya now)
Western Caribbean
On your own tours are permitted in Nassau, Roatan and Cozumel. Excursions provided by Celebrity Cruises are required in Costa Maya.

lb - goes to show if one waits long enough things may change, as in this case...

Then again, by the time of your sailing, another change may be in place contrary to this one.

Vigilance and monitoring of 'official' sites are the key factors...

bon voyage

Good news on Cozumel.

It would be nice if they would post a day & time of the updates on their website.  Who can keep track otherwise!
