where you were mistaken was i wasnt trying to condemn you for doing it, just your attitude about getting away with it....

the difference between me and you however, is i copped to thinking about it, you appeared to be bragging about it and how the rules didnt apply to you. and i appreciate your cartoon. i agree we should stop beating this dead horse.

you got the haven goodies without actually booking a haven good for you! you you got lucky. nuff said

We will be on the Joy in the Haven the week prior to your cruise.  I will report back, I promise.  We are taking our Adult Children that have NEVER stayed in the Haven.

This will actually be my first time on the Joy & so looking forward to Dec.  I got hooked on Haven about 6 yrs ago when a friend asked us to join them 2 weeks before sailing. Got a last minute Aft Haven and fell in love.

Your children will be spoiled forever after cruising with you. Hope you have great weather and a wonderful cruise.

That sounds like a hollow promise @complawyer.  You'll be in the Haven and @RumRunner2021 will be out with the masses, unable to enter the Haven bar.  Oh wait, maybe you can sneak them in? 🙃

I think this thread has run its course.  Those who follow the rules and go into the Haven pay for what they get.  The sneaks are taking money out of every stock holder of NCLH.  They just don't care who they see in the mirror each morning.  They are certainly deserving of our pity, so let's be gentle with them as they attempt to rationalize their conduct.  They are truly pathetic.  Let's be nice.🙂

I know and enjoy most folks on CruiseCritic.com. Sometimes a topic kind of goes south. Become a different focus then originally intended. Folks say thing, the it gets heated. Life is to short. Moderate, please lock this tread down.  Let’s all get back to how we will enjoy cruising again.

Cruise well every one.

Seriously, give it a rest. Everyone can spend their money however they want. Gambling it away. Drinking it away. Smoking it away. Shopping it away. Giving it away.

And @complawyer, you're no better. There's been many threads where you have advocated for brining non Haven guests in, and now you're pretending to be high and mighty and opposed to anything viewed as "illegal". Lol.... I needed that laugh.

Beating a Dead Horse

Enjoyed meeting you on the Jade.

Sometimes these threads get entertaining don't they.

You have posted a very nice post.  I will disagree that the topic went south.  The OP is getting the very opinions which were solicited.  The responses may not have been pleasant at times but they were true answers.

Holey cannoli, I was just wondering about what happened to you the other day. Good to see you're still poking around. I'm hopping on the Encore tomorrow to head to Alaska, but hoping our paths will cross again some day.

You certainly know how to enjoy a cruise to the fullest and I have certainly learned a lot from our brief time together. Hoping your family is well and you're still living life to the fullest.

We are all doing fine. I hope you have a great time in Alaska.

Still doing the same types of cruising.

On NCL we will still be doing the same Haven Cabin when available.

Agreed. Free speech is not always pleasant to our ears but its better than suppressing speech. How can we learn if we shut down thoughts we don't agree with.

Not shutting down thought. Debate is good. Even lively debate. When it gets hateful and personal was my point. Fine line.  Just my two cents.

sthrngary: maybe it's just my paranoia (but it's not paranoia if they're really talking about you)

but if you're referring to the jibes between me and skeeter, its neither hateful or personal (at least from my perspective)

how can anything be hateful or personal when neither side knows the other. you read what the other has to say, respond or not, and go onto another post or question.

if your post isnt referring to us, please disregard the above

by the way, i enjoy your comments vis-vis the haven. years ago, because of the price and the haven options, i booked a penthouse on the getaway.(big mistake) now if i dont book a haven, my wife refuses to go. i'll admit i have become equally as spoiled. by the way, the getaway has become my favorite ship

I am so happy you enjoyed the Getaway in the Haven.  So nice.  We are currently on a Crystal Cruise in the Bahamas.  Also nice but not the same.

My reaction was to the banter was wrong.  I have seen thread go off the track in the past and I thought that might be happening. Again and sincerely, I was wrong.  If this was Reddit I would have deleted it.  The past many years has made me kind of afraid of social media sometimes.  It is me completely.

More on topic, as nice as Crystal is, I am so looking forward to my entire family of 5 being in the Haven the end of November on the Joy.  That will be epic.

Cruise well.

I am sorry I ruffled some feathers.  I was only trying to make a point that rules are not cut in stone for all people.  The people in charge have "the right" as part of their job to make exceptions without the approval of the guests.

I will leave you with this as another example of the powers to be being able to make exceptions.  Maybe 4 years ago I was playing blackjack and was winning and betting big.  I was betting $500-3000 per hand playing 2 hands.  The casino manager comes by to say hello as I had golfed with him on a previous cruise while in Bermuda.  He asks if I wanted anything from the bar on the casinos dime.  I said "how about a bottle of Dom for my table mates and I"?  He had a bottle sent over and the three of us playing drank it.  10 minutes later another bottle shows up and we drank that.  I only had the regular drink package.  My question is should everyone in the casino who saw us drinking the $300 bottles get upset because they did not get the same treatment?  I say absolutely not.  The casino manager "broke the rules" as some would say but it was in his right to do so.

Again I am sorry for ever telling my story.  I do not feel that I am entitled but will accept nice gestures from some.  I also return the good whenever I can like when I tipped the server who brought us the bottles 2 green chips for each bottle.

I am stealing this from Gary

cruise well everyone

What does this have to do with the haven?  Isn’t that what this thread is about?  Who cares how much yo say you gambled?

sam ting: while skeeter and i have certainly differed in our opinions vis-a-vis haven perks, i need to stick up for him here. you misinterpreted his comparison. while i accused him of bragging, he was just trying to show that if you know the right people you can usually get what you want, even if in reality you are not entitled to it.

he was explaining how he got perks in the haven even though he was not a haven guest, to getting champagne while gambling. while it's not a great analogy, it does show that sometimes rules can be bent. swayed. if not entirely broken.

im sorry that i insulted skeeter, if he was able to score haven goodies, more power to him. i have admitted that i would try and get friends that were not staying in the haven into the bar aand restaurant, even to the point of trying to slip the concierge a $20.

before people chastise me again, please note,i have never done it.

On to another Haven question which I hope will not be a provocative one.  😊  My only Haven experience is with the Haven on the Epic.  I am booked into the Haven on the Breakaway and I'm wondering if anyone would care to compare the two different Haven experiences.  (I am under the impression that the Haven on the Epic is larger with more facilities... am I wrong?)

Very similar.  Some folks will give you the exact differences. Both are full Haven experiences. You are going to have a great time.

Slightly different layout. Restaurant and courtyard are in different sections in epic. So you could spend days not seeing the concierge if you don't want to. In breakaway you pass the concierge to get to restaurant and courtyard. Breakaway also has a retractable roof in the courtyard.

Epic has free vibe club and bigger restaurant. The actual thermal spa is also bigger.

Personally i loved both ships. Whilst different, both will have some of the best staff in the world

I could not agree with you more as my post said.  My comment is the topic of children is not often met with kind remarks.  All this is a non-issue for the next 6 months or so.  The key to remember about the Haven and Families is the two bedroom Family Villa's allows many family to bring their children at little to no cost.  This usually on holiday dates makes it much more crowded with families.  Not an issue.  The issue is and we are careful explaining, that many (Not all so chill parents, I was one) parents think letting their 5-10 year olds loose with no supervision in the Haven Courtyard is OK.  Most kids are respectful, some are not.  I have been on several cruises where it was not as pleasant as it should have been.  All of this can be eliminated with proper parental supervision.

My approach is just go to when it is not a holiday.  Problem solved. Again, parents of children in the Haven.  I am talking about every one else children but not yours.

I'm laughing at the fact that you have to "step through a minefield" when discussing children in the Haven.  We are looking forward to cruising for the first time in the real Haven (we were on the Star with partial Haven amenities) soon, and I can't wait for the experience. Frankly, the 2 amenities I care about most are the ability to board first (I'm like a 12 year old kid at Christmas when it comes time to sail), and having meals at the Haven Restaurant, where the food is, reputedly, the best on the ship.

we usually try and book a haven. while the restaurant has good food, i would hardly categorize it as
"the best on the ship"

and the menu doesnt change. so if youre on a 14 day cruise, its the same old same old.

dont get me wrong, i'm certainly not knocking it, it sure beats eating breakfast/lunch with with a few 1000 of your closest friends, but hardly the best on the ship

by the way, even though the menus dont change, there is enough of a variety to keep most people happy. especially the breakfast menu, which i will concede is terrific.

regardless, enjoy your meals and enjoy your cruise.

I am very careful about referring to unsupervised children in the Haven. Let us say, it is kind of a difficult topic.  I also like getting on early.  The Haven Resturant is very nice. I really like it. However please remember each menu never changes from meal to meal.  Now is it the best on the ship? Personal preference.  I also love the French Restuarant a lot.

Cruise well.
