Good morning all!

We're having typical early fall weather, I think we'll get an early fall -- very welcome after the hot days we've had this summer.  High 60's, low 70's.  We even got a good bit of rain last night.

Great collection of days, and George Burns was a great comedian -- love that quote.

I would never go out of my way to make the meal today, but definitely would try it next time I'm in Iceland. Especially if it's "doctored up" a bit with more color and flavor.  Also it would require a good Icelandic beer on the side!  It's basically fish and potatoes in a white sauce and I can think of a lot better ways to have cod. 😉

Debbie @dfishvery wise to stay away from the pool now.  Can't wait to see you 2 weeks from today! Hopefully our nice weather will continue and not rain the day you're here.   Will be in touch. 🙂

@JAM37prayers for your DH and for you as his caregiver.

Please stay safe everyone and have a good weekend.

We are having a few days of much needed rain.

I am taking advantage of the weather to work on getting organized to head to Canada and the Kawartha Lakes next week. We need to schedule COVID tests and figure out the ArriveCAN app. Then prioritize the boxes of stuff we set aside in 2020 to haul to the cottage. I was planning to take a U-Haul trailer, but the land border crossing might be complicated enough already!

It will be wonderful to get back to the lake!

Captain D. D. saw us standing up there and asked us to meet him outside the Crow's Nest.  We did and he asked if we would like to have dinner in Canaletto the following night.  He also said we could bring our tablemates George and Sandy.  Of course we accepted!  He set the time at 7:00 pm the following night.  Later while we were dining he walked into the dining room and came over to our table to tell us he forgot about a meeting he had scheduled and could we make it at 7:30 pm instead?  We all said no problem, Captain!  You should have seen waiter Riris face when the Captain walked away!  He came over with eyes wide and said "What was that about??"  Oh, just a little change in dinner plans.  By the way we won't be here for dinner tomorrow night, Riris!😅

One more thing, we were celebrating Kings Day that day and here is the cake they prepared as well as our monkeys with the orange wigs.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJHhFyjLxHbOI_Jin4RKn_A?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1526137436

Here's a photo of us at dinner in Canaletto the following night.  The Executive Chef of the fleet was on board and brought us out a huge fish he had prepared for our dinner.  I only had a few bites of it since I'm not a huge fish lover.  But it was good and I enjoyed my separate entree.  George brought a special bottle of wine he had purchased on our cruise in Civitavecchia and the Captain was very surprised and honored that he had done that.  He said usually I provide all the wine, but he enjoyed it very much and asked where the shop was in Civitavecchia that George had bought it.  We were there for hours enjoying the conversation and food, and finally Captain said I have to go back to work now.  We bid him good night, then all four of us sat and chatted a while about it having been one of the best dinners we had ever experienced on a cruise.  The company was outstanding!00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJHtRTdJ2k-W5gkdLqTNhUd?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1526159922

Good morning from a very cool and damp western Washington State, I sure hope this weather sticks around.

Thanks to all the listers.  I will pass on the meal suggestion.  Prayers to all, especially our military and their families.

@dfish agree on avoiding the pool.

Busy day on tap, I meet with the pet sitter in an hour to go over a couple of things and give her our key.  I need to book the limo's, we leave a week from today.  I reprinted the boarding passes after the upsell, Dear Dad does not yet know about this surprise, crossing my fingers he does not figure it out.

Have a great day!

Good morning, and thank you to Rich, Roy, Jacqui, and all the others who post such interesting stuff!  @JAM37, I will be praying, too, for your DH and you, for a rapid recovery now.

HaHa, at first I thought the Icelandic thing was the port of the day.  I confuse easily....

We were in Horta in 2018 on Prinsendam, too.  Captain D. had instituted his "block parties", so we got to know some of our neighbours on the TA.  In Horta we took a ship's tour out to where the volcano had erupted and buried fishermen's homes.  (In the last picture, the bumps are where the houses were covered with ash).

Good afternoon all - thank you for all the great Daily information.  Really enjoying all the wonderful port photos for today's stop; just makes me yearn to get out and travel again.

Disclaimer - I haven't yet had a chance to fully go through yesterday's Daily so not sure if this was mentioned, but wanted to give some update on the young lifeguard who lost his life in Cape May.  I read yesterday in our local news that Cape May will be renaming the Reading Avenue Beach in his memory, and they are covering all medical costs with municipal insurance.  The family is now planning to use the funds raised through the Go Fund Me campaign to establish scholarships in his memory with the Cape May Beach Patrol and Phoenixville Area High School where he attended.  His family is comforted by the tremendous outpouring of support - over $170k raised so far.  Norman Inferrera III's sense of goodness and service will live on, a shining light in the darkness of this sad event.

Speaking of tragic events, prayers and comfort to the families of all who lost their lives in the bombing at Kabul Airport yesterday.  Just an awful situation - may those that remain be able to get out quickly and safely...and prayers for all those who remain behind.

Happy that it's Friday and this challenging work week is over.  With any luck, the awful heat we've had this week will also break - though it means a weekend with a much higher risk of rain.  That's OK - I have a few indoor tasks I can now tackle.

DH has been suffering from Covid, Delta variant, for almost three weeks, so I will continue taking extra care of him today. He said he actually feels better this morning whereas the last two days he was saying he felt worse than ever. So, I am very grateful to hear him say he feels better and just hope it continues.

So sorry to hear this.  Prayers that he continues to improve 🙏🏻 and Bless you for caring for him.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. It is good to forgive your foes, if possible, and then keep them at a distance if necessary. Just because sounds like what Moms say!

George Burns was a character.

I'll pass on the meal (fish), but like the bread recipe. I might like the drink, not sure. The wine sounds good but $$.

I haven't been to today's destination, although I have been to Portugal. Thanks for the pictures.

Prayers for those killed and injured in Kabul. Prayers for our troops there and everywhere.

It's hot and humid again. Also thunderstorms most days.

I'm just back from my Moderna booster shot. Hopefully not many bothersome side effects. Now I need to re-photograph my card. The news said my county has the highest vaccination percentage in PA, but we're still having about 270 new cases a day.

@smitty34877 I shake my head at the mask protestors. I hope Tana gets a good report from the Pulmonary specialist.

@rafinmd Interesting on the Churrascaria concept on a ship.

@Sharon in AZ Safe travels and have a great cruise.

@TiogaCruiser Safe travels and have a good trip.

@JAM37 So sorry to hear your DH has been suffering from Covid. Prayers for his recovery and for you as his caregiver.

Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list.

Stay safe and wear your 😷.

Good morning, all! Well, I started by clearly reading ‘Forgive Your Toe Day’. So I made another coffee. Love the quote, and still miss George Burns. I’m not sure about the meal, although if you used leftover baked salmon and added dill, it would be a wonderful dinner for a rainy day! The drink sounds good, but one to be enjoyed at home or with a reliable designated driver.
So yesterday we got more bad news from HAL. We had late 2022 / early 2023 planned with an epic voyage booked on the Zaandam. We boarded in Montreal on October 1, and did the East Coast to FFL, the Grand Africa, the 14 day Caribbean Christmas/ New Years cruise, and the 2023 Grand World as B2B2B2B’s, and debark in Ft. Lauderdale May 11, 2023. We would be on the same ship for 221 consecutive days.

Now they have cancelled the 14 day holiday cruise, and switched the GWV to the Zuiderdam to accommodate those switching from the cancelled 2022. We are guaranteed a cabin, but our carefully chosen one is gone. And the Zuiderdam Crowsnest has that sterile operating theater ambiance like the Westerdam. And no library. And of course, she can’t dock in some ports like the smaller ships can. So there goes our epic voyage concept. But, at least we’re still going on the main parts, which is the big thing. And the ocean is still the ocean. DH took me out to dinner to help ease the disappointment. I had chocolate lava cake and Prosecco. As dinner. Because I could. And really, a full meal of chocolate, sugar, and wine helped a surprising amount.

The pictures of the Azores are much appreciated, thank you!

Happy Friday, especially to those waiting to board a BHB in Seattle tomorrow!

That is a Big Fat Bummer @Horizon chaser 1957that your plans fell apart.  But way to drown your sorrows in style!

I seriously don't know when this is all going to end.  We just went out to breakfast and did a walk-in walk-out at the first place we planned to go, then found a marginally better alternative.  So crowded, no masks, zero social-distancing.

🤦‍♀️

@Horizon chaser 1957 Chocolate and wine sound like a wonderful dinner to me.  I might choose that for tonight!

@jimgev Wow on the 27%.  And here I was worrying over our 10% statewide and 7.8% county rate.  I had read early on that an infection rate under 3% meant you had a pretty good handle on things.  Ours had been less than 1% back in June.   That Delta is a nasty one.

@JAM37 I'm so sorry your DH is suffering from Delta Covid.  How awful for him.   I'm sure he is thankful to have you there to care for him.

@kazu I have the suitcase out on the bed in the spare room and there are a couple sweatshirts in it.  Those, some jeans and two nice outfits for dinner ought to do it, I'm thinking.   I do have an umbrella and windbreaker/rain slicker to pack as well.   I have been having fun trying on clothes to see what fits and I'm discovering a new wardrobe since I have taken off a layer or two of fluffiness.

@cat shepardLet us know how the bread turns out.  I love rustic breads like this.  They are so much better than anything I can get locally.  Back before the diabetes diagnosis I used to make my own bread.

@Cruising-along I can't believe it - two weeks from now we will be in Seattle and either arriving at the hotel or on our way.

@AncientWanderer Obviously, we are still all in for Alaska.   You can contact me at chebble1 at yahoo dot com.

I think I'm going with Roy's alternate menu for tonight.  Mmmmmm

@dfishthanks.  Will do.

And also, I just looked at that bread recipe.  It looks really yummy.  All that buttermilk should tenderize the whole grains, and then there is plenty of sweetness there.  I'll be making that one for sure.  DH really likes a whole grain bread.  Many we've tried to make are just too dry for my tastes.  This one sounds great.

Thanks for the good find.

Thank you for today's daily and care reports.

Sorry I'm late just had a 7 hour drive home from Southampton in heavy bank holiday traffic.

We had breakfast at a Southampton restaurant before we left.

Our church services tell us to forgive our foes.

Interesting quote.

Not sure about the meal or drink of the day.

Just because should be something positive.

Looking forward to photos of today's destination.

Take care and stay safe everyone.

Graham.

That's a great idea!  Will do that for sure.  I'm not loading the navigator app on his phone until we're on the ship, although I doubt he'll use it, he can't read that little font.

I agree.  I took an upsell once to surprise DH.  He saw the “priority” on our luggage tag and I just told him i was because we were 5*.  I kept the boarding passes so he wouldn’t notice the S.

Even when I headed to the cabin, he didn’t clue in.  He thought I knew a short cut to our cabin and would be taking stairs or the elevator.  When I stopped he told me I had the wrong room.  When the key card worked, the jig was up 😉

@Horizon chaser 1957

@AncientWanderer

I guess I can swap out the luggage tag at the last minute too, we decided to go with one large suitcase otherwise he would normally handle his own tags.

Since he'll be wheelchaired onto the ship by HAL, it'll be interesting to see if he notices the elevator stopping on deck 7 instead of 4 😁

We feel the same about the new Crow's Nest, the space no longer has any warmth, sterile is a great way to describe it.  And the books now remind me of the type that sit on the coffee table.  The Ocean Bar/Lounge is our new hangout which is fine, it's much closer to everything.
