Just received an e mail from Celebrity, due to issues with Venice and large cruise ships our cruise (Infinity) will no longer disembark on 26th May 2022 in Venice but on 25th May in Ravenna. Not sure how many other Celebrity or other cruise companies  are affected by this and how many have already been informed of the changes.

Just received an email also, for Constellation leaving Venice on 15th Sept 2022

Such a shame as it is a beautiful sail out of Venice in the evening 😢

Venice, Italy  banned larger cruise ships back in July and just took affect I believe

Italy has declared the waterways around Venice a "national monument," finally banning large cruise ships from the canal city, according to reports.

The ban, which will go into effect on Aug. 1, includes any ship that weighs more than 25,000 tons or is longer than 530 feet, and will apply to the lagoon basin near St. Mark's Square and the Giudecca Canal, The Associated Press reported. It marks the culmination of a years-long effort to oust mega cruise ships from the city, including a request from UNESCO

Haven't received the e-mail yet.

Any compensation for shortened itinerary?

Just got a voicemail about the issue from Celebrity and an e-mail should be coming,

They are offering $50 obc per person on Constellation sailing, but are also adding a stop in Palma.

Ravenna is 2 hours or so away from Venice and 2 1/2 hours from Marco Polo airport.....not ideal.

Everyone knew they were banning large cruise ships over a month ago. Why they took this long to change the cruise and notify you can only be speculated. Incompetence or not wanting people to cancel.

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/venice-cruise-ship-ban-government/index.html

Rather than formulating a contingency plan when the possibility of a ban first arose, and being fully prepared to implement necessary changes as soon as the ban became official, they appear to have waited until the ban was in place to start thinking about developing a possible solution.

Applies to:

Constellation 5/3/22 to 10/13/22

Infinity 4/24/22 to to 10/22/22

We look forward to welcoming you aboard Celebrity - - - - - - ® for your - - - - - - - -  cruise, departing from - - - - - - - - - - . Before we set sail, we have some important information to share regarding your itinerary.

Currently the Italian authorities are working with the cruise industry to review options for a permanent cruise port outside of Venice as part of a new tourism management plan. Until a long-term solution can be implemented, we have decided to change our homeport to Ravenna, Italy located a few hours south of our originally scheduled departure port. We know how disruptive this may be to your vacation, however, please be assured you will still be able to experience Venice as planned and we will do everything possible to make your vacation effortless.

Airport transfers will be available for purchase pre-cruise by contacting your travel agent or Celebrity Cruises at 1-800-280-3423. The drive between Ravenna and the Venice Marco Polo Airport, will take approximately two and a half hours. Alternatively, you may book flights out of Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport where the travel time to Ravenna is approximately one hour. In order to assist with the cost of transfers all guests will be provided an Onboard Credit in the amount of $50 per person.

All excursions booked through Celebrity Cruise Planner, for Venice, Italy, will still take place as scheduled. Complimentary transfers will be provided where needed from Ravenna to Venice. Guests with independent arrangements should contact their tour operators as soon as possible.

Just got the e-mail. Disappointed.

$50 OBC per person for dropping one night (Unacceptable), dropping Kotor and ending in Ravenna. Full refund available but only by 15 Sep 2021.

So the Italian government forced this change, for the good of Venice IMHO, and celebrity needs to make it right by you?!?  They are giving $50, when they really do not have to for something out of their control.

OP gives the impression that the cruise was also shortened by 1 night. If that is accurate, then I would agree that $50 OBC is insufficient.

Perhaps OP will confirm that but until then, impressions are not facts.

Upon re-read, it seems pretty clear.

As your email is the only one quoted in any of the posts, I wonder whether the $50 OBC being given to help with the increased cost of airport transfers is being confused by some other posters here as recompense for an abbreviated cruise. Knowing how Celebrity deals with shortened cruises, as I had one in 2020, I really don't believe that a $50 OBC is all that passengers will get.

It varies slightly by sailing. Cruises with actual changes to embarking/debarking dates receive additional comp. If the only change to the cruise was a port move from Venice to Ravenna, it looks like they are offering $50/pp.

Most of the cruises were move from Sat-Sat to Sun-Sun with some being changed from 7 to 8 day and the 10 night in Oct going from 10 day to 8 day,

If you are on the May 15, 2022 Infinity cruise, re-read your email. Your cruise fare is being prorated by 1 days cost, $50 OBC and $150/pp credit for independent airfare changes.

You are correct it does say prorated by one day. Still dropping Kotor and ending in Ravenna will not work for us as we have another cruise out of Southampton on 29 May. Extra costs for 25 May to get from Ravenna to Venice (4 hrs by train, one of our party uses a wheelchair) and an additional night in Venice vs pro rate cost offset. Amount of pro rate reduction TBD. I think we'll cancel and get the NRD back to open up other opportunities around our Anthem OTS cruise. Too bad, wanted to give Celebrity a try. Just not the right time with their insistence on AI pricing and there is the uncertainty of Constellation and Infinity remaining with the fleet.
