Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily report.  I was scheduled to have a quiet work day.  That fell apart rather quickly.  @dfish I’d be willing to give the meal suggestion a try.  I did manage to get in a load of laundry and Jasper is busy making sure that DH’s clothes have the correct amount of fur.🤣

We will be leaving the cottage to head back to the States tomorrow morning. The dishwasher is supposed to get fixed this afternoon.

We will take an extra day travelling to visit the SIL in Bessemer, Michigan (the UP).

I found a few cruise pictures on this computer; here are a couple from Puntarenas -

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Happy Fall! I appreciate businesswomen and elephants. I collect elephant statues (small ones) on my travels. I'll have to think about the quote.

I like lamb but have never cooked it; growing up my mother made lamb with a lot of garlic that was very good. I like the wine. I'll pass on the drink.

I have been to Puerto Arenas on my SA/Antarctica cruise on the Zaandam.

Not much going on today. Storms are expected this afternoon, and it's already windy. I'm still waiting on my new glasses ordered Sept 2. They were supposed to take 10 days.

@dfish Welcome home.

@mamaofami I'm glad the insurance plan is settled, but it seems there are still other coverage issues. I hope it gets straightened out.

@Seasick Sailor I'm glad you're finally feeling better.

@grapau27 Prayers for your cataract surgery tomorrow. I'm about 8 weeks out from mine and oh my how much better I can see now.

@msmayor Lovely flowers.

Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list.

Stay safe, wear your mask.

Safe travels. Glad you were finally able to make it over to Canada this year. We are still waiting to be able to cross the border into the USA by car.

Thank you for the Hump Day Daily, Rich.  I am so ready for fall.  Elephants are amazing and Business Women really enrich our culture.  I love the Cahan quote.  Been to Caldera several times, mostly on Crystal but also on MS Zaandam.  The lamb sounds great.  My alternative is Empire Builder M&C(Lunch) and Steak(Dinner) as served ton the Empire Builder September 22, 2017 on the way to boarding MS Oosterdam in Seattle.

This is a test.  Good morning everyone, and thanks for the Daily News.  Graham, I hope your cataract surgery is completely successful, and you can get some new eyeglasses.  Pat was thrilled with his, and now doesn’t need to wear glasses to drive.  However, every once in a while he forgets and puts on his reading glasses.  (There's no cure for that!)

I decided I had better start practicing posting on my devices, as I’m not taking my laptop when we travel, and there have been complaints about CC and the smaller devices. I did have to sign in on my phone, although it knew me yesterday.  Now I’ll try to post some pictures of Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica.  We were on Zaandam in SA.

I think that's the wrong Puerto Arenas.  Today's port is in Costa Rica Central America.  This is a lovely port though.

I did not have any trouble with the ship internet when it came to connecting and staying logged in or connected to the wifi.  The problem was that the satellite was located in South America.  One night my location was somewhere in Chile and the next night I was somewhere in Peru.  Most sites came up in Spanish and the translations, if they translated, were pretty awkward.  Some sites would not allow me access, probably because of geographical restrictions.  They probably thought I was a foreign national trying to hack them.   The crowning glory was that the internet would not allow me to send email from my own email address.  It said it wasn't a valid email address.  I've only been using it for 20 some years.  I don't think it was signal strength, bandwidth,  or anything like that. Just a lousy provider.

Thanks, I've been following that,  I wonder if it requires less "oomph" to post on FB?  The lowest priced internet on the ships lets you do that, doesn't it?  Then the middle one is the one we usually get, for emails and such, like posting here...

Good morning, everyone!

Thank you so much to all who welcomed me back home.  It was a great trip and so nice to escape reality for a while.  We kind of had to escape reality due to the internet issues on the ship.   It wasn't so much the ability to connect or the speed.  It was more a problem of the internet provider placing geographical restrictions on websites and such.   My nephew suggested a VPN might help get around that in the future.

Thank you so much to Jacqui for the stellar job on the recipes while I was gone.  She went above and beyond by providing more than one recipe for each meal.  I loved her descriptions as well!

Today's meal is one I think of as Sunday dinner.  I remember having lamb chops occasionally as a child for dinner on Sundays.  I'd eat it with a ton of mint jelly.  I never really developed an appreciation for lamb unless prepared and seasoned well.   The Binghamton, NY spiedies were originally made with lamb, but that lamb was marinated for days, sometimes even up to a week.   I had lamb at a Brazilian Grill in Portland a few years back and it was great.   So, perhaps I should try it again.

Ok, who would know Australian lamb better than the Australian Lamb website?    There are a couple of versions here.  The first comes with a lemon cream sauce and the second just herbed.  One of the things I liked about this site is that they offer tips for substitutions and variations.

Here's to a great day for all and may we all be able to board a BHB soon.  It was great to go back despite awful weather.

Welcome back Debbie!

The website you shared is one I have gone to for years -- with considerable success. A leg of lamb jumped into my shopping cart recently and we will enjoy it with friends on Monday, I think I should renew that virtual friendship with the Aussies between now and then.

love those spiedies! I went to SUNY Cortland and spent weekends in Binghamton with a Girl Scout ‘s friends family. Grab some every time I get back there. Thanks for the memories.

Finally, I meet someone who has heard of spiedies!   They are great, especially if you marinate them long enough.  A couple hours or overnight just doesn't do it.

@lindaler  Welcome home!

@Seasick Sailor I'm glad you're feeling better.

@grapau27 Good luck with your cataract surgery tomorrow.

@mamaofami I'm happy that you were able to find someone to help with the insurance mess.  It is deliberately complicated.  If you goof up and aren't covered, they don't have to pay.

In April 1998, DH and I did a 12-day New Orleans to Acapulco transit of the Panama Canal on the Crystal Harmony. Puerto Caldera was our only port after the canal. Like so many, our ship was met by folkloric dancers. Then we took an excursion to the Poas Volcano National Park where we had views into the crater and from the mountain top over the Costa Rican countryside.

Yes, the social package is the cheapest internet wise on the ship.

But, it only lets you access a few social websites - nothing else - no checking emails, etc.

FB actually takes a lot of “oomph” and uses a lot of memory on your phone or Ipad.  When internet was tricky there were times I couldn’t check FB or messenger but the regular internet & email worked.   I don’t do a lot of FB when I am travelling but I do like to keep in touch with family and friends on FB messenger.

Good morning, all! Happy Fall Equinox. My cousin, who is a business woman, was over the night before last, and we had roast lamb with herbs and sat out under the full Harvest Moon talking. I certainly appreciate elephants. I hope to see the great herds in Africa in another year. Our planned safaris in 2020 we’re swept away by the pandemic. Ditto our land trip to Africa booked for November this year. Let’s hope third time is the charm.

We haven’t been to today’s port. All photos appreciated.

Riding bareback in 2016.

Im glad I did this first. Once I’ve seen elephants in their natural home in the wild, it won’t feel right riding one as a domesticated animal.

We did another section of the Vedder River Trail today. The salmon are spawning in the little creeks feeding into the river.

Fingers crossed that cc let’s me post today!

Oops. You're right. That's Punta Arenas, Chile, not Costa Rico. I'd better learn to read!

Just got a Tornado watch alert. Let's hope not, and that we just get a bad thunderstorm.
