Home from the Elation

Recommended Posts

Well, it's over. icon_frown.gif I'll post a review later, but the short version is that it was *fantastic*, and the CCers I met pre-cruise on the roll call thread completely made this trip.

Off to download my pictures now! I'll post those soon, too.

I just picked my mom and grandmother up today from that same cruise. It was a mother's day gift from my hubby and I. They gave me some bits and pieces, so here they are.

1. Cleanest ship mom has ever been on out of 10 cruises.

2. Ship was cold! However my family members are experts on overpacking, so they had cardigans, lol.

3. They had an outstanding wait staff and room steward.

4. Grandma loved Cozumel, even thought she's been there like 5 times, she is addicted to Carlos & Charlie's. They said that Charlie was actually there when they were eating and even talked to them. A small celebrity sighting for those of us that love that place.

5. Cruise director mentioned, as a courtesy, that family members could get color tags to get off with each other. BAD IDEA!! My mom said that half the ship seemed to have orange tags, which were the first group getting off. Whoops!

6. There was a man in a motorized scooter terrorizing my grandmother, she swore up and down he was trying to run her over daily. icon_eek.gif

7. Slot machines were not very loose, at least not when they played.

8. The crew was installing new carpet around the ship at night. This is for all the stain spotters, lol. icon_wink.gif

9. And since I got to pick them up, here is my two cents. They need more lanes for the Carnival pier. The RCCL lines in Galveston are like 6 or 7 lanes wide, as Carnival only has 3. One for busses, one for pick up, and one that is supposed to be moving. However, no one ever wants to let you in and out of the lanes to comply with these rules.

I hope this helps, or at least get a giggle! I'm off to take my mom her 2 Jack Russell Terrorizers, it was a loooong week here with them! icon_wink.gif

Lol, jhale, sounds like a lot of the things I noticed! I froze most of the time. We had the AC way up in our room the whole time.

I never play slots, so can't speak for that, but I finished about $90 on craps for the week.

Ship was clean, and carpet replacing was done later in the evening, so as to not disturb everyone during the day.

Having the cat 12, they switched us to the orange tags for "priority debarking". We waited in line for an hour for immigration around people giving us evil glares thinking we were the problem for not having the tags! (They only gave us enough for our checked bags, so we just took our old green ones off our carry-ons). When a particularly bad group started glaring at us again, then started talking about the "big rooms", DH got a big kick out of correcting him on what the room was like. Strange, he didn't complain about luggage tags after that... I guess the family thing explains the luggage tags, though...At 4 to a room for the Verandah rooms and the Upper deck suites (which we all know wasn't the case), there should've been about 250 max with that color tag.

More to come! I just finished posting pics if anyone wants to take a look!

aggieastrofan - You got some great pics! My mom is computer challenged so a digital camera is not in her future! I'm hoping she'll get a picture disc when she get her film developed. I did talk to my grandmother tonight, she now has a cold from the "ice boat" as she is now calling it, lol. I see your going on the Ecstasy in December, we're booked in October. We love the Celebration, but are excited about a bigger ship coming to town! Mom is already looking at the Grand Princess when it comes. It's nice to see Galveston getting a little more attention from the cruise lines.

Thanks for the photos and can't wait for the review. My Aggie DD graduates on Friday and we leave on the Elation on May 23rd for our first ever cruise, to celebrate her last four years. Now if she only had a job!! Anyway we are not going to let that ruin the week that is for sure! Bit worried about the reports of it being cold. I freeze in anything below 80 degrees. Do they have plenty of blankets on the bed or should I pack something?

Glad you had a great time. Now is the time to book your next cruise icon_smile.gif

Our room had plenty of extra blankets in it, but it slept up to 4. If your room only sleeps 2, I'm not sure how many extra blankets you'll have. I'm sure you can either get extras from the cabin steward; if not, you do have control over the temperature somewhat with the vent in your cabin.

The public areas of the ship were *very* cold, in my opinion. The elevator lobby behind the back entrance to the Imagination dining room got my teeth chattering every night. Cole Porter was usually cold, Tiffany's was freezing, Elation's Way and the casino weren't too bad, Mikado was chilly...I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

Part I of my review is up also:
