AustinCruise Posted December 21, 2021 #26 Share Posted December 21, 2021 @clover18 they don’t use the helipads anyway. They are dangerous and they don’t support the weight of a typical rescue helicopter. You may complain about the ship all you want, but the helipad makes no difference.

This ship, for all the money that was put into building it, does not have a helicopter evacuation/landing pad. Imagine the money that they spent to go back to Fort Lauderdale, instead of being able to land a helo on our ship to evacuate the patient. We have heard that the patient has died But that has not been confirmed by Royal. having been on the ship now for about three days, we are completely under-impressed by virtually everything about it. We are doing a back to back, next week, and are actually sorry that we are not moving to a different ship. We’re glad to be on vacation, but there are so many things about this vessel that could use tremendous improvement. But that’s for another thread. They are indeed dangerous to land on moving ships per the captain, and he said they will use it for a helicopter to lower a rescue basket.

syesmar Posted December 21, 2021 #32 Share Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) This article here has more about the situation. Royal Caribbean spokesman Lyan Sierra-Caro spoke to USA Today and is quoted, "The guest, who was symptomatic prior to boarding but did not notify us, reported to the medical center and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. He and his close contacts were quarantined and disembarked in Ft. Lauderdale to return home." The article also mentions one of Monday’s shows was canceled (both showings). Best wishes to all and safe travels! Edited December 21, 2021 by syesmar

The USA Today article said the positive passenger disembarked at Ft Lauderdale was a man, but it clearly sounds like there was another medical emergency with this woman. Prayers for all involved! Imagine the money that they spent to go back to Fort Lauderdale, instead of being able to land a helo on our ship to evacuate the patient. On the Jewel of the Seas, on Dec 10, so less than 2 weeks ago, we diverted via a u turn and for about 5 hours backtracked toward San Juan for medical Evacuation. still a couple hundred miles from SJ, the helicopter met us at sea. Never landed, sent ropes down and first took a woman up in a seat, then a man in a stretcher. The most amazing thing was the ship slowed to 15 knots, and the helo, which was about 75 to 100 feet above the heliport, was perpendicular to the ship. Therefore that pilot was moving sideways at 15 knots to stay in place. I figured we would be late to Miami Dec 12, as we were now 100+ nautical miles behind schedule. But the captain kicked on the extra gas generator and hit about 24.5 knots for the next 28 hours or so, and made up the distance, docking precisely on time. We were on a celebrity ship with a Helipad a few years back. Dropped basket down to evacuate ill crew member. Took helicopter about two hours to.get into position and for ship to get into position. pa6860 Posted December 22, 2021 #42 Share Posted December 22, 2021 the captain just announced that the Showgirls show That was cancelled yesterday was due to positive Covid case(s) amongst the performer(s). The positive test came from routine weekly testing. The crew member(s) is doing well, quarantined, and being monitored by the medical staff. We were also told to possibly expect more cancellations. all that said, I see no negative impact on our cruise whatsoever (so far 😉), and we’re all having a blast. Masking is compulsory for everyone all the time while indoors (except when eating/drinking), and although we don’t see complete adherence (esp in the Royal theater), we do see most people being good about it, and still having fun. 2

From the last three sailings all Covid cases from the casino. The precautions at all. No one had mask. No one cleaning the machines. No masks were required last week for vaxxed venues such as casino but now required this week. Hopefully they will go back to cleaning machines in between people using them. Imagine that's hard to do if a lot of moving from slot machines to find the perfect one.
