Universal Studios / Nintendo World from Osaka or Kobe port

Hello cruisers!

We are booked on a Celebrity cruise in Japan, October 2022. Assuming the Covid precautions are lifted and we are able to cruise, I would like some advice on how to visit Universal Studios Super Mario World in Osaka.

My adult son, who has Asperger's Syndrome (a form of high functioning autism) is completely obsessed with Nintendo 64 and Mario in particular. It would honestly be a highlight of his life to visit Super Mario World in Japan. I can't even tell you how much this would mean to him.

So I'm trying to figure out how to make it work. Here is our itinerary. Can anyone tell me how to do this? As best I can tell from looking at Google maps, Kobe and Kyoto are very near each other. The itinerary lists Kyoto with Osaka in parenthesis. As follows:

October 4, Kobe, docked 11:59am -11:59pm

October 5, Kyoto (Osaka), arrival 8am

October 6, Kyoto (Osaka) depart 6pm

So we have an overnight in Kyoto (Osaka).

Please help me figure out how to make this happen. Is it do-able? To get off the cruise ship, and spend the better part of a day at Mario World? I have no idea where the ship docks in relation to the theme park, or anything else as far as logistics.

I would even be willing to spring for a hotel near the park when we have our overnight in Kyoto/Osaka, rather than returning to the ship, if that would help.

This would be a REALLY big deal for my son and I would love to be able to do it for him if possible. Any advice is welcome.

Universal Studios Japan and the cruise terminal in Osaka (at Tempozan district) are just opposite to each other across the harbour. According to Google map, it only takes 12 minutes to go from cruise terminal to USJ by cab. Even if you want to enter the park on both days, it is not necessary to find a hotel nearby.
