Road construction delays in Galveston?

Email from Carnival this morning stating that due to "Beach Fest" being held in Galveston this weekend, plus road construction, I should allow extra time to get to the terminal Saturday morning. 

 

Can someone from Galveston or has visited there recently, tell me where road construction is being done near the terminal?

I understand there is construction on I45 causing closures this weekend.

When we were there in October there was LOTS of road blockage for storm drain upgrades. Everything was put on hold during Covid and now they're playing catchup.

 

Maybe a local can update us with status.

I-45 widening will be ongoing until 2026.  Didn't slow us down but there were a couple exit closures.

This weekend I-45 Gulf Freeway southbound between FM 517 and FM 2004 all mainlanes will be closed for roadwork starting Friday night at 9pm until Monday, 4/25 at 5am. Traffic will detour via the frontage road.

I haven't seen any news about closures this weekend 4/29-5/2. However, there is a lot of construction so I would still plan some extra time.

From downtown Houston to Galveston there will be at least three main lanes and more , OPEN , both ways , not even including additional access roads on both sides.

The work repair the bridge onto Tiki Island will be going on for months. Check TXDOT’s web site for details, expect lane closures right before getting onto Tili & Galveston Island.
